    I used to really rely on reviews. Now, I take them with a grain of salt. I find people love to review but only if they really love or hate it. Plus, there’s so many sponsored/PR reviews with 0 integrity. Especially on Target. Some websites also filter to only show you the 5 star reviews for pages (cough Thrive) to skew your impression. I also look at the overall numbers.
    I usually filter to the 3 star reviews to get a better sense of what’s going on. I also come on youtube to watch someone, with similar features/needs as me (for ex when looking for self tanner I’m going to find someone who is as translucent as my skin tone is 😅), who is actually using the product. I remember using Makeup Talk and Alley for reviews!
    I’m glad you’re mostly going to use this set up. The other was so distracting to me. I like that you really showcase how the products work up close.

    I love how many unique ideas you have for videos! I honestly don’t really look at a product if it has mass amounts a reviews and it’s under 4 stars. Usually reviews at Sephora and Ulta are written by people who love makeup, so I find they are pretty trustworthy.

    • @betsybabf748
      @betsybabf748 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't think we can consider them trustworthy now at all. We know brands have been outright caught having their employees do positive reviews for their products and negative reviews on their competitors' products. We also know regular, though very immature, people outright admit to bashing products they never even tried due to not liking or being mad at brands, which is done constantly with celebrity brands, and people will also bash a competitor product which they never tried as an attempt to support another brand or product they like.

    • @MomNTraining
      @MomNTraining 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@betsybabf748 I am skeptical of new products with lots of positive reviews right away for this reason. However, products that have huge numbers of reviews and have been around for awhile, I generally end up liking the product, so I feel those are trustworthy. That’s my experience at least.

    I love Lancome refiner lift. It is beautiful on my dry mature skin . I think in general that on TH-cam there is not a lot of love for the Lancome brand- don’t know why ? But I love many of their products. Would love to see a full face of some of the classic brands like Estée Lauder , Lancome and Clinique .

    • @StillPooh62
      @StillPooh62 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I can think of a couple of reasons: Lancôme is fairly expensive, it’s not Cruelty-free, and the shade ranges are really limited. I’m very fair, and often even the lightest shade is too dark for me. That said, I also enjoy the Rénergie Lift. 😎

    • @jt9058
      @jt9058 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree that I love both Lancôme and Clinique. I wonder if they don’t get as much YT and social media attention is because they don’t do PR boxes to these ‘influencers’ and typically that’s what gets the attention on these types of platforms. Though I have to say the influencers that purchase their own products are typically the ones reviewing these sort of older generation products.

    I always read reviews & make sure to look up swatches! I don't live in the USA so I often order online, so reviews are often the only way that I get to hear about other people's experiences with products. That said, I do prefer to read the 3-star reviews, their criticism sounds more rational (the 5-star reviews often sound like sponsored reviews, and the 1-star are sometimes "wrong shade" or "never delivered") and reflect the product better in my opinion. MakeupAlley is still a go-to of mine to read reviews!

    I read reviews when I'm looking to see what others thought of a product I'm interested in, but I don't leave my own unless it is something that changed the way my makeup looked and I really loved it. The Teint Idole foundation is my favorite, lasts on my oily skin and doesn't give me cake face or heavy looking makeup. I used to love the Maybelline highlighter, but after awhile it started getting hard pan, and by then I moved on to different brands.

      The Lancôme stick foundation is my holy grail foundation. Now they reformulated it and relabeled it recently. They took away the SPF. Plus the added this weird pointed blending brush at the end. I am bummed out because I find the reformulated formula to be slightly more emollient than before (which doesn’t help with my oily face) and I could do without that blending brush on the end. I will still continue to buy it but now I am entertaining other stick foundation as my holy grail.

    You have inspired me to go on Ulta and review my favorite products! I think blush on the apples of the cheek is nice especially when using bronzer on the back of the cheek. If you put the blush further back it just muddies with the bronzer and becomes a brown blush….which is just a different look, but doesn’t show off the blush the same way.

    I always look at reviews before buying. I've never been disappointed with any product that has a good rating. When leaving them, I'm more motivated by a positive experience with a product, but have also occasionally left more critical comments on a not so great product. That Maybelline highlighter is absolutely Stunning! I just used it yesterday for my shimmer lid, and inner corner shade for my eyes. I also wore my blush ( Milani Spiced Rose, has the rose shape imprinted) as my crease shade for a glowy, peachy, summery look.

    Just a heads up on reviews. Some sites, like ulta, consolidate reviews from other sites so the reviews aren't just from ulta purchasers. And do scroll through and pay attention to date posted and usernames. Most companies know people make purchases based on ratings, not necessarily reviews, and so there are paid "reviewers" who post the same key points, like how sponsors require certain things to be mentioned. If all the reviews are posted on the same date and mention the same points, they're likely paid. Check usernames as well, some get lazy and post the same review but with a slightly different username like with a different number at the end. These are either paid to give 5 stars to boost rating or 1 star to drop competitors. I was scrolling through some products and started noticing these trends.

    Always love starting my day with you since your positive approach is so uplifting. Oh my gosh, it was so much fun to see the beautiful look you created with the Modern Renaissance eyehadow palette. It was gorgeous! I'll definitely be pulling mine back out--especially this fall. I especially appreciate it when people fill in the age range because as an older woman, I especially want to know if products work on more mature skin. So I usually focus on the ratings from those in my age range.

    I love this video topic! I always read reviews before purchasing anything, and especially before buying something online, sight unseen. Reviews are weird tho, and sometimes you have to take them with a grain of salt because they don't really give you a good assessment of the product (such as a 1 star review because the package arrived late; that tells me nothing about the actual product) Recently I bought a Nars eyeliner pencil at TJ Maxx and it is so smooth and pigmented and long-lasting, it quickly became my new favorite eyeliner pencil. I went to Sephora's and Ulta's apps to check the reviews to see how well it's rated, thinking that I've been sleeping on this highly rated hidden gem. Both apps give the Nars eyeliner pencil abysmally low ratings. I read some of the reviews to figure out why and this is the reason: Nars' high pigment long wear eyeliner used to be an automatic twist up eyeliner, they discontinued that model and made it a regular sharpenable type pencil. Except most of the low rated reviews are from people who can't figure out how to sharpen it or get to the rest of the product once it wears down 🤦‍♀️ (and the other low rated reviews were from people who were angry in the change from automatic twist up to sharpenable pencil model) so...I definitely did not put much stock in those reviews. I should probably write a 5 star review of the product just to help boost its rating 🤣

    Lancome is hands down my favorite foundation of all time. Especially for my combo skin. It’s not too matte for my drier areas it has a matte dry down. I just hate a tacky feeling. It has a great lasting power. Only problem is I don’t have a perfect match for my tan neutral skin tone. But I work with it bc I love it that much.

    I will look at makeup reviews but rarely base my purchase on them. Particularly with complexion products because it's so specific and personal. Shape Tape is a great example of something that has almost perfect reviews but doesn't work for me. I will normally only leave a review if my experience is drastically different then others or them of the brand's description.

    I’m the type to always say that the drugstore products are so good these days that there’s no need to waste money on higher-end stuff, BUT my one exception would be the Laura Mercier translucent loose power. I have not found a drugstore version that is as high performing as that one; the Maybelline Fit Me loose powder comes pretty close but not quite as finely milled as the Laura Mercier one.

So you pay for the products and delivery then you register your tracking number to Puerta a puerta and you can receive 12 shipments/ year and if your haul is less than USD 50 you just pay for the national post around USD3 and they tax you 50%extra for every dollar . Yes, I read reviews and take them into consideration. My moms holy grail foundation is the Lancome, she's 64. She says it holds up under her mask all day at work and she's picky so I believe her. Also, it doesn't settle into her lines and wrinkles and I believe that is due to the coverage factor here, its not a heavy or cakey foundation. Gives just enough to even out her skin but not so much that it sits heavy in all the wrong areas. Love this video.

    Modern Ren is probably my favorite & most used ABH palette. When I first got it I wasn't reaching for it & then I realized why--the shimmers weren't my preferred shade, texture or finish for a shimmer shadow. So MR became a pairing palette for me that I used with my indie shimmer singles. Eventually I just bought ABH singles of the matte shades I was using the most from the palette which was the more neutral browns( warm taupe, umber) & not the oranges or reds. I ended up making my own neutral palette from ABH & SG singles & put ABHMR in a drawer where it still sits. ABH mattes are still one of my favorite matte formulas to work with (non pressed pigments only)

As far as blush - bronzer - my walk off favorite is Benefit - the Cheek Stars Reunion Tour - oh oh oh - on days where I want a quick look - I still love my EM Cosmetics Liquid Blushes....(just wish she would fix the dropper!!!). As far as reviews - I leave more positive reviews...UNLESS I have an allergic or bad reaction to a product - then I will comment. Before I forget - THANK YOU for the introduction to Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink Liquid Lipsticks (I really like the Chestnut color on my cool tone, pink skin with blue eyes and white hair) - WOW - long lasting, comfortable (just have to remember to reapply the balm). Lastly - YES, I do read reviews - esp looking for any "worked on my dry sensitive skin...or works on mature skin." HUGS from CT.
