- I would like to thank Manningford Trout Fisheries for allowing me to film this on their river.
In this video I run through how I have set up the Umpqua ZS2 pack for my fly fishing on rivers. The video includes net placement and the contents that I keep in my pack. It may not be everyones idea of the perfect system but it works for me.
I would love to know what your preference is for carrying your kit on the river so please leave me a thumbs up and a few words in the comments section below. - กีฬา
Very thorough explanation of the pack and it’s features. I ordered one and look forward to using it - Thanks Lindsay!
Hope you like it! I am still very happy with mine.
Cheers Lindsay for another good review, perfect timing I've got one of these on order 🎣🎣
Hope you enjoy it David 👍
What a great review. What I haven't seen covered in any of the reviews I've seen on this kit is the tippet holder on the bottom. I was pleasantly surprised by it when I got my pack.
Yes it’s super handy👍
Howdy from Texas! Wow. Great review and set up. I subscribed and will check out your other reviews. I’ve been looking at chest packs and think this one will be the one I purchase. Thank you for the perfect summary!
Awesome! Thank you!
Greetings from New England sir, I love your videos! I own the Umpqua Overlook ZS2 and absolutely love it. The changeable back section is a great feature. I use the small one for short local outings and the larger when I'm driving a ways and plan to spend the day on the water. It's well constructed and I find it superior in every way to the several vest I've owned- It just works! It's also less expensive than many of it's competitors at least here in the U.S. I hope that Umpqua will take a look at their distribution in Europe, they need to make this pack readily available to all.
Hi Dean, Thanks for watching, I have really enjoyed using the pack. I really do want to sit down though and design my own pack. I was a master tailor in another life and I just think although the ZS2 is a great pack it could be tweaked. Thanks for watching the videos and tight lines for 2021.
Hello from Virginia. Thanks for a great video.
Hello, thanks for watching!
I love that you cut that big net loop off the back. I hate that thing on there. I’m definitely going to remove that from mine. Great idea!
I just don’t use it, had the pack a few years now still going well. The retainer for the forceps has snapped it it’s hardly a show stopper.
Nice one Lindsay!!
I've just finished making myself a lanyard with a tippet spool holder, for snippers, forceps, floatant, sinkant and desiccant. Together with a hip bag should keep it light for river fishing. My net is attached high on my back with a mag-clip connection with foam pipe lagging attached to my net with cable ties to keep it on the surface.
Keep em coming mate.
ATB Chris
That is awesome! More rewarding because you made it yourself.
Just as I expected Lindsay, first class review. Very informative!
I have the MK1 and I'm well happy with it. There are always little individual tweeks.
Take Care and Stay Safe 🤞
Great to hear!
Lindsay, where is the other magnet fixing shown?
or....Why not utilise the magnet on your net frame, and attach another opposite pole magnet near the bottom corner of your chest pack(only one magnet fixed to your net).
@@pauldeaville9735 The second magnet is on the left hand side of the pack and its partner is in the handle.
@@pauldeaville9735 The handle then become less easy to grab and its all about efficiency of movement.
I don't competition fish, mostly because there is nothing available in Alberta. I carry mine with my magnate on the top of the net rim to another at the nape of my neck more or less.
I seldom actually use a net. I don't lift fish unless it is required for maybe untangling line off the fish. Most of my fish come to hand and I hold them in the water to release them and let them go. Pretty much never take pictures.
Chest packs? I have used them and turned them into fanny packs but I just never liked them. I have sought out every pack style there is and I finally found one I liked. It is a pack that straps on and sits under my arm. I like this a lot! Packs are very much a personal thing, not everyone likes the same thing so your reviews are important.
Just out of interest, the zingers I buy come from a stationary store. The line is very strong braid not metal and the attachment is s snap that is tenacious. The price here I think is $8.95 Canadian.
Thanks for your honest review
You are right Kerry packs are a very personal choice. This is the best one I have used so far.
Umpqua makes some nice packs, ive used my Overlook several years now on the river and i love it and its perfect for comps but like you said it wasn't easy to get since there are very few in europe, so i got mine from US thru ebay
Yes, pleased with it. I was lucky a friend got one for me.
Hi, I use a vision mycket bra ( strange name!!) it’s similar to what your using but around £80 in the Uk, it’s changed the way I fish as I much prefer it to others I’ve tried or vests. I only carry what i need & I think it’s just about perfect over the last 3 years. I can’t recommend it highly enough. It sits perfectly high on my chest & is adjustable anyway. It has a small back pack or use the neck strap. It’s on utube & my favourite thing called magnet-ique
Fits on the front of the pack & holds the fly when I’m messing about with things, no more flies stuck in my clothing etc, great!!!
I am thinking of a change might have a look at that one.
Thanks! I’ll ping you on Sunday then. Tight lines!
Hi Adrian, this is the top box that I am currently using on the ZS2 pack. Its not cheap but does a job for me. I am sure it is available from other stockists. www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-boxes/candf-design-chest-pack---slit-foam~10187.html
Awesome! Thanks@@lindsayiflyfish
I went with Orvis sling. Only thing I don’t like about slings was where to keep net. I hang it from back but when sling pack around net flops all over.
Thats was my biggest gripe!
You should probably leave the label on the chapstick so you don’t get it confused with the pink wax indicator, that could be disastrous!
In all seriousness great video. I am getting this pack and this video gives me an idea of how I could set it up👍
Got to be honest that mistake has been made 🤣. It’s a great pack, I have ragged it and it’s still in good shape.
@Lindsay Simpson i give u home tip, use common self-locking nylon cable (plastic zip tie ) to fix magnet on net/vest :) u can fully tighten or make a plastic ring. it is not a problem to cut at any time and place elsewhere. you have no problem pulling the magnet on to the metal ring. have a nice day
Thats what is underneath the electrical tape buddy ;-)
Very good Lindsay! What brand(s) are the silver coloured line snips you have on the top of the pack and the forceps on the front?
Hi Sean, The forcepts are from Orvis and the snips are Simms.
My spouse was just asking me what I would like for Christmas. But I can see myself making a few changes. From sad experience I have a horror of the line fouling some dangly thing on my front. Won't be the first time I have attacked a pack or vest with needle and thread and possible fabric glue. I will replace the zipper pulls with something more minimal.
I was a master tailor in another life so I have no qualms about altering stuff on things that don't work for me.
Great review Lindsay. What is the first net you’re using please with the competition set-up? Thx 👍
James it is the Wychwood Brookman this one www.wychwoodgame.co.uk/products/accessories/nets/brookman-net/Q0396
Hi Lindsay, great video, can you share how you attached the C&F box on top? Thanks!
Sure, it has like a safety pin on the box and I just attach it through the material.
@@lindsayiflyfish Easy enough, thanks!
Hi Lindsay. I’m a wee bit late to the party on this one but I was wondering what that wee fly box on top is? I think you said the C&F design top box but I can’t find it anywhere. Separately, the pack is now available on Amazon - albeit shipped from the US.
It is C&F pal, I am away fishing at the moment if you message me Sunday I will send a link.
I like this pack a lot, too. Removing the net holder in the back is a good idea. Any tips there?
Its quite straight forward but you do need an industrial sewing machine. I would not attempt it without one.
@@lindsayiflyfish OK, thanks. Industrial sewing machine? I fold...
Thanks Lindsey out of my price range
Any time!
I have this pack, love it especially for euro-style fishing. I do, however, also hate that net keeper. Putting a net in it makes it completely inaccessible, it just gets in the way. What was your process for removing it? I really want to, but I'm scared I am going to mess up my pack.
Hi Russ, I was a master tailor in another life so it was easy enough for me. I would not attempt it unless you know what your doing and have access to a sewing machine.
@@lindsayiflyfish Hah, wish I had those skills to repair all my fishing gear that breaks down. Thanks for a great video!
Great review one question what zingers are you using with this pack? Thanks!
I am using the Simms pin on ones pal.
@@lindsayiflyfish Thank you sir. I ordered that pack a few weeks ago. Just trying to get a set up for it.. I appreciate the response.
@@jordanweinzierl6070 No problem anytime.
Hi Lindsay, how’s does it compare to the Wychwood packs? Cheers
It's much lighter and more capacity.
Hi Lindsay can you help? I’m trying to get hold of this pack in UK with no luck. Can you share where you bought yours? I understand it may need to be sourced overseas which will include customs charges and that’s okay. I just need reassurance on a solid transaction. Hope you can help. Cheers. Graham
Hi Graham, I sourced this through a friend of a friend and did end up paying custom charges. This made it rather expensive, that said I am still very pleased with it. Sorry I can't be of anymore help. It's a shame because I think they would be popular here in the UK. John Norris was distributing for a while but not sure they are still doing so.
Nice looking pack Lindsey how much did you pay for it,
By the time I paid import tax it was around £130.
Have you ever mixed up your chapstick and indicator sticks? 😂 That sounds like something I'd do
I look good in hot pink.....lol.
Review on the Wytchwood rs2 maybe??
Hi Jake, I have just ordered an RS2 so will need a little time with it, will be happy to do a review of the rod in the New year,
@@lindsayiflyfish thanks lindsay I'm currently contemplating buying one with money from Xmas, so I'm trying to find a review on one before it buy one, looking forward to seeing the video, tight lines
@@jakehumes2333 If you contact @TimJoyce on FB he has been using them all season and will give you some honest feedback on the rod. As I understand it he has been very impressed with it.
@@lindsayiflyfish hi lindsay I've already spoken to Tim on fb but thanks anyway, tight lines
What sparked your interest in this pack?
It was a toss up between the Fishpond pack and this one. I had seen a few of the comp guys using the older model.
@@lindsayiflyfish I'm deciding between this Umpqua and Fishpond Cross Current. Can I ask why you didn't go with the Fishpond? Thanks.
@@musicguyrml It was the flip of a coin really. I have friends that use the Cross Current and think its amazing. I think I was in the same boat as you. I am always on the lookout for the next best thing mind........lol.
I’ve just bought a sling 😂😂😂
You might like it pal, just didn't suit me.
I had one too, it looked good in the store but, like Lindsay, I could NOT get it to cooperate.
