Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I'm a fan of Koren Publishers. This is exciting information and your recommendation is one that I value. 🕎 Hag Hanukkah Sameah! 💜
Mazel Tov, Dr. Abramson. Your excitement over this new volume makes me want to get myself a copy. I had ordered the Koren Tanakh with a foreword written by Lord Rabbi Sacks. However, when recently at the Boynton Beach Public Library I met the famous mathemetician/lay-politician and self-proclaimed inventor of the world wide web, Dr. Piotr Blass, I dutifully relinquished my copy to him. Happy Hannukah! Praying and Rooting for Israel!
Why would you strike out Dr. Abramson's name like that? Is it a little insane to be both complimenting the man and insulting him all in one go? Maybe the age of information is causing us to get too far away from the truth about ourselves and G-d...
Dr. Abramson, beg your pardon, but you didn't mention the Judaica Press Mikrot Gedolot books, or as I call them, the "pink books" because they are famously bound with a pinkish and reddish cover. I don't think they ever finished all of chumash, but I do enjoy reviewing what copies I have at home though I find the Hebrew text hard to read in terms of the printing. I was never a strong Hebrew reader. This sounds like a wonderfully comprehensive set. I look forward to reviewing a copy soon.
How interesting. I've been looking for something with translation of the commentaries. I'm going to check my local Judaica bookstore to see if they carry these.
meter of space ? so we're talking Me'am Loez size. I have most of the commentaries you mentioned by name but different sets. Need Samson Raphael Hirsch. Buried abba's 10 volume large set which had water damage and taped bindings.
Hi, I am new to Religion, Roman Catholic. I want to build an ecumenical section in my personal library. So far I have on my radar, the Soncino Chumash 14 Volumes with Rashi's commentary and others, and Robert Alter's Hebrew Bible: A Translation with Commentary. How does this work compare? Or do you have other suggestions? Thank you
A Chumash is selected readings of the Bible. Is close to the whole thing, but it’s not comprehensive. Since you are probably not going to spend your days learning Hebrew or Aramaic, may I suggest ArtScroll’s Tanach (Stone Edition) full size instead.
History and archeology of Jews and their scriptures are extensive and explicit. But there's weird personalities that always come along and claim that it was "all stolen from some nation whose existence has no evidence".
Funny thing is, Greek and Roman Mythology borrows tons of things from Phoenicians, but the otaku here accuses *us* of stealing from Phoenicians. No wonder you are a Gohan fan. You cheer for a Dragon Ball Z character who cried "Mr. Piccolo" and "I want my Mommy" most of the time. When Gohan finally gets some power, he also gets his own father killed by Perfect Cell or gets absorbed by Buu. It suits you. You are really the epitome of a Gohan fan.
Success to You too. Thank you. We are trying not to stop learning.
Thank you. All the best.

I've never studied Philo either but I'm still a big fan of his pastry.

Check out the Machon Yerushalayim Otzar Meforshei Hatorah, they also did a good job
7:49 - so seven commentators, all of them Ashkenazi… can we honestly call that a “broad range”?

That is right, Mike!
Dr. Abramson, do you have it for the entire Chumash? I've only seen Braishis and Shmos so far.
how far does it go back - before the destruction of the 2nd temple | the Besorót or no?

@naapalm82 Thank you for the suggestion. 🙂
stolen from Phoenicians
I'm unaware of any Phoenecian Torah commentaries. Perhaps you can enlighten us
