@@azaka3720 I would argue that after defeating Itachi, Sasuke was more lost than he ever was. Itachi did just tell him, "sorry Sasuke but this is it" or something like that. He has repressed emotions and memories, but he's smart enough to chase what that means. In all likelihood, like what Kakashi told him about revenge, Sasuke would have been so lost. Revenge didn't give him the closure he was looking for as defeating his brother still did not bring back the Uchiha.

For Itachi's final words, I read a different translation. "Sorry Sasuke. There won't be a next time." I thought that was a bit more fitting, since he was always talking about "next time" with him.
They basically mean the same, but your translation is clearer compared to this video's. Itachi says 「許せサスケ。これで最後だ」, which translates to "Forgive me Sasuke. This is the last time".

This episode came out 3 days after my big brother was killed 11 years ago. I can’t possibly explain how hard this episode hit me back then. I still can’t watch it without crying even though I’ve seen it probably 35 times.
I was watching on a platform that took a week to get the subs in so the episodes ran a week behind. It was Jan 7th 2010 when it released on whatever prob illegal site it was, and Tim was killed Jan 4th 2010. It’s close to 12 years ago, it’s just hard to believe. He was 12 years older than me, so I guess soon I’ll be the same age he was at death.
“I don’t know why I feel weirdly emotional right now” I think maybe it’s because you just witnessed one of the most beautiful plot twists of Naruto .. and because Itachi is awesome
Itachi's truth being revealed is one of the greatest moments in anime history in my opinion. It turned someone we believed to be a psychotic villain into a broken unsung hero. Was Itachi truly a hero, was he right for doing what he did, should he have done things differently? Who can say? All I can say is that I believe Itachi made what he believed to be the best possible choice out of the terrible choices that were given to him. If nothing else, for Itachi to be able to do what he did, that requires a strength that very few have. A strength I know I'd never have, so at the very least I can respect Itachi's strength of will.
People say (those who don’t pay attention to small details) that Itachi turning out to be good was a last minute decision. However, I disagree. It was foreshadowed through out the entire series, even before Shippuden. When he returned to the village for the first time after the Uchiha massacre, aside from it being a threat to Danzo that he is still alive, it was also to lowkey alert the village of the Akatsuki’s plans (to capture Naruto). If he were truly a villain, he would’ve killed all those he fought some hundred chapters ago if he really wanted to. So, yeah. I think Itachi’s truth was intended all along.
Tell me why did torture sasuke showing him getting parents killed for 24 hours twice? Tell me why itachi said sasuke to kill his best friend? How would he be hero of leaf if he killed his best friend? Itachi was a retcon, a character, that doesn't make sense.
@@allipse8224 1. He was in front of Kisame, he couldn't just hit him 2 times and let him go, it would've been too suspicious. And I think we can agree on the fact that if Itachi really was evil, he would've killed him at this point of the manga. If Itachi is really a retcon, that means that in OG, what he said about Sasuke's potential was true and that he only wanted to fight him to become stronger. Wouldn't he be disappointed seeing that Sasuke was this weak at 13 years old when HE was already one of the strongest characters in the whole ninja world ? He would probably have killed him if his only point in letting Sasuke live was to fight him to get stronger. 2. For a simple reason : Mangekyo. Itachi's goal was to make Sasuke strong enough to protect Konoha, the fastest way to become stronger is to unlock the Mangekyo, that's it. I would also say that without this plot twist, Itachi's character would.. basically suck. Like he would be strong and badass, but he would be a.. bad written villain overall. No explanations for what he did except "wanaa test my power bro", no motivations, no importance.. just a bad guy without any depth
Itachi is the most human character in anime. A guy that tried his best to do what he thought was right, yet still made some mistakes and ultimately fell short of his goal. He was far from perfect but shouldered all the weight for the sake of his village and his younger brother. Itachi the GOAT
Idk if human is the right word. Most humans wouldn't kill there clan for the bigger picture. He was maybe the most emotionally intelligent is how I'd describe it
Fair enough. I guess a better way to say it is that he’s flawed. He was obviously far from perfect but did what he believed was for the greater good, that’s not to say what he did was right.
The most disheartening thing was that he did all this when he was just 13. I can't even imagine an adult handling such a task let alone a kid who just entered his teen years. Potential spoilers unless you read the novels. The anime won't cover it so i felt inclined to write my thoughts. Most of his childhood life was being discriminated against by the village while also being pressurised by his clan. The love story between itachi and his girlfriend is one of the most heartbreaking story ever told. Itachi has always been an introvert. He had no one to confide in other than one other uchiha best friend. The girlfriend named Izumi was the only person he ever developed romantic feelings for. I'll filter out the anime scenes while bringing context from the actual canon novel that was never shown. Fugaku the father was glad that Itachi had her. "He may be a brute...but he's kind...please look after him." With a smile and resolute voice she replied "i know" the clan head who never cries actually shed tears for him and his girlfriend knowing what his generation stole from them. The childhood that was taken away from him, he hoped itachi could at least find happiness in her. Age 11, in a playground scene. Izumi weeped and grabbed onto itachi, asking him where he's going and why he feels so far away. Him being an Anbu was sworn to secrecy and he could do nothing but stand there and watch her cry. "Please let me stay like this for a while" During D-Day, out of everyone, Itachi chose to go to her first. His final sentimental attachment other than Sasuke. He couldn't bear letting her suffer the horrors of his actions and didn't want her to die a unceremonious death under Madara. He expanded a colossal amount of chakra to ensure she past on peacefully despite having many powerful enemies afterward. In one hundredth of one thousandth of one millionth of a second, itachi used Tsukinomi on her. In it, they graduated from school, he proposed to her, they were wedded and had a child. She no longer had to be burden with being a shinobi. All was well and peaceful in the village. She eventually passed on from old age in the dream and when the jutsu ended, her lips slowly formed into a smile, her voice sounding like an old woman whispered "Thank you." (For giving me what i always wanted) Itachi grabbed onto her shoulders and wept, "i should be the one thanking you, Izumi." "Thank you for loving me" With that you know the rest. Itachi never again developed romantic feelings for another person in memory of Izumi. She was his first and last love. I do hope they end up together in an alternate universe.
@@eritonythegreat8318 Yup, itachi daylight and midlight novels the author specifically dedicated just for him. It goes through his life in the hidden leaf and small tidbits of Kakashi and others as well. (Philosophy, powers, love life etc) You can find it online with free translation 😉
When I had first read abt itachi giving izumi such a closure to life, I actually felt soooo bad that why he had to suffer all that.. I wished there was another way to settle it🥺🥺
Just a little interesting tidbit to make things even sadder in this whole scenario: when ‘Madara’ mentioned that Itachi also killed “his lover,” he meant it. We don’t really see it in the series but before the Uchiha massacre, Itachi was deeply in love with the girl of his dreams basically. When it came time for the massacre, he killed her by placing her inside of a Tsuokoyomi where she got to live out and experience a future together with him as a family, and basically just left her in there to experience that joy and happiness until her body in the real world died of starvation/dehydration
Finally someone who understands why Sasuke wants to destroy the hidden leaf. So many people seem to just go "wtf sasuke your brother loved the leaf the whole time wtf are you doing.'
The fact that itachi faught sasuke while being almost blind and sick on his death bed ....he was literally living on drugs . Still could've killed sasuke at any point . ✨
Itachi Uchiha is one of the most influential characters in the Naruto series. Itachi was someone seen as one of the strongest people in the entire story. With the incredible power of the Sharingan, few could hold a candle up to him. Itachi officially made his first appearance after the death of the Third Hokage,Hiruzen Sarutobi, and immediately gave the fans a glimpse of his tremendous strength. Not only was he strong enough to incapacitate Kakashi Hatake, an accomplished ninja in his own right, for weeks, but even the likes of Orochimaru admitted inferiority to him which, at the time, was quite surprising. It was quite clear to see that Itachi was one of the very strongest characters in the entire series, and even among all the other Uchiha of the Naruto world, he stood out as someone quite special. Itachi Uchiha was born with the talent of the Uchiha and even among all the members of his clan, he was especially skilled. Having mastered some of the most difficult jutsu as a child, Itachi's potential was painted to be limitless. His brilliance shone even before he awakened his Mangekyo Sharingan. In fact, it is believed that by the age of 7, Itachi had the wisdom of a Kage already. This made him incredibly intelligent and his decision-making, along with the ability to analyze various situations while being calm, made him quite a unique shinobi. While that alone is quite impressive in itself, Itachi's strength went beyond just that. Shisui Uchiha's death triggered the power of the Mangekyo Sharingan in his eyes, making him one of the very few characters to ever wield this legendary eye. It is safe to say that Itachi's Mangekyo Sharingan was special and gave him access to some of the most overpowered jutsu. Using his left eye, Itachi could use the Amaterasu - inextinguishable black flames that burn until the target is reduced to ash, and with his right eye, he could cast a powerful genjutsu called Tsukuyomi. While all genjutsu are dangerous if used properly, Tsukuyomi was doubly special. Using this jutsu, Itachi could trap someone in a whole new illusionary world where he had complete control over both space and time, meaning he could manipulate almost anything in the world. One second from the real world could easily be converted to a lifetime in the world of Tsukuyomi and that is what made this genjutsu terrifying. In fact, it remains to be the only regular genjutsu that can kill someone. In Itachi Shinden, Itachi Uchiha cast Tsukuyomi on Izumi, and she was able to live her entire life with Itachi in the illusion where she died of old age. This effect carried on to the real world as well and Izumi ended up dying due to Tsukuyomi in a mere second of real-time.Lastly but not least Kishimoto made sure that Itachi was seen as someone special and he did an incredible job in establishing that in the story. When Itachi Uchiha awakened his Susano'o, he was seen wielding legendary weapons of the Totsuka Blade and the Yata Mirror. The former allowed Itachi to seal anyone he pierced in a world of genjutsu forever, while the latter gave him the ability to deflect any and all attacks thrown towards him, regardless of whether they were physical or spiritual in nature. According to Zetsu, these weapons, when combined with his Susano'o, made Itachi Invincible. ☯️

@@tortoiseknight8438 It's still trampling on Itachi's effort and death imo. @@luisdavidbarragan1546 The only reason Itachi did so was because, frankly, he had nothing but horrible options in this situation. Pressured from both Konoha, as well as his own clan, with three terrible options. Siding with his clan meant joining the coup, killing a massive amount of people, and potentially setting off a Fourth War, which would cause countless deaths and massive suffering to the Elemental Nations as a whole. Siding with his Village meant killing his clan, his family. The most distant of relatives, to his parents and even his brother. Doing nothing, joining neither side, meant the coup would still likely occur, once again killing countless individuals and potentially starting the Fourth War. In the end, he chose the sole option that let him minimize the damage overall, and was even able to save Sasuke, and prevent his younger brother from growing up during a war, or dying, and allowed him to give Sasuke a potent tool in the Mangekyo Sharingan, and in his death, giving Sasuke the chance to gain an even more potent tool, the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, to best maximize his brother's chances to survive. No matter what, Itachi would lose in this situation. His actions allowed him to both protect the relative peace the Elemental Nations had (compared to wartime, at any rate), and allowed him to save Sasuke. His actions were not good, they were quite literally the best of a set of horrific decisions which, no matter which one was chosen, would have massive, terrible consequences, leaving him completely unable to adhere to his pacifism, literally backed into a corner, while still a child.

Itachi, one of my favorite characters in the entire franchise, to say I teared up when first watching his true story here would be an understatement. Now you know why we all love Itachi
I know I'm late, but it *looked like* you completely missed the reveal that Itachi was sick. Itachi was terminally ill even before the last fight, which is why he invited Sasuke to the fight, it needed to happen soon. We never quite got to know what the illness was exactly, as far as I know, but it was the reason Itachi was coughing up blood multiple times throughout the fight, so it must have been something very serious. It was also the reason he died in the end, in combination with him overexerting himself. *** Some might consider the text below to have (minor) spoilers *** Tobi said that Itachi even prolonged his life with medication/drugs to be able to give Sasuke the final fight. Making him a hero, awakening his Mangekyou Sharingan, freeing him of Orochimaru (which also helped the Leaf Village), and even giving him a *possibility* to get the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan. Like Tobi said, Itachi could have easily killed Sasuke (imagine how powerful Itachi would have been without the ilness), but he didn't want to. He had to force Sasuke to his limits, without killing him, kill Orochimaru, implant his Amaterasu with auto-activiation into Sasuke, tell Sasuke as much as possible about the Uchiha history and the mechanics of the Sharingan., all while staying alive with his illness, but die in a believable way (he couldn't let the truth come out). Imagine how hard it would be to set that up.

You must be sleeping well, you have a great perception and level of suspicion where it's needed regarding pretty much everything laid out in this episode - well done!
If the Uchichas started their civil war, many people would die, the Uchichas would have lost because of the numbers of clans in the village, but the two sides would be too weak against attack from surrounding country like the Sand who just waited for a weakness to attack (like when Orochimaru kill our 3rd Hokage) so, Itachi just choose between sacrifices and lesser sacrifices, that's all
Although Itachi was a spy for the ANBU, his burdens were amplified when his father - at the head of the coup - wanted him to spy on the ANBU With the threat of the coup d'etat, pacifist Itachi was left with two terrible options: let the Uchiha fight and cause a massive and brutal civil war, or kill them all before they could. Despite the Third Hokage's attempt at diplomacy, negotiations ran out of time, and the night of the blood moon had begun. In his burden though, he could not kill Sasuke, and instead set him on a path where his brother would release him from his burdens and kill him. Of course, this taints Sasuke's victory more and more, and more and more he refutes Madara's story, citing that he tried to kill him, but each time had an answer, to push him further and even expel Orochimaru from him, and he did all this already dying of illness, so he was nowhere near 100% when they fought for the last time. It's a lot to process for Sasuke, who reunites with his Sauce Squad. Sporting new Mangekyo eyes he decides to rechristen the team to Taka (meaning Eagle), and new revenge in mind: Destroy the Hidden Leaf.
I really like your reaction, but I was excited that you looked the other way in 2 of the best places. Madara told Sasuke that Itachi was sick and prolonged his life with medication when you looked at the ceiling. And when Itachi said in the flashback that he would always be there for Sasuke, you didn't look either. Menno. XD
People think that Naruto is a Fantasy-series. It's not. It's a War-series. All of the bad-guys had their origins because war. Preventing a war, preparing for a war, participating in a war. IMO if you really start thinking about it, Naruto is just as dark as Attack on Titan. I mean just look at the Child-soldiers that are used. Even Good guys have their own ways to cope with the horror. Kakashi reads books, Might Guy releases his emotions a bit too often. PS. Hebi means Snake. Taka means eagle
the Uchiha werent treated that badly yes they were kinda under surveillance and lived further from the village center but apart from that they just lived a completely normal life without any restrictions and also had a pretty high position in the hierarchy being the police, so their reaction was very much an overreaction and they forced the higher-ups hand to act :) Itachi had a choice, either the whole village gets destroyed, his brother would most likely be the victim of this conflict too, or its just the Uchiha who take the L and the rest of the village is fine while his brother is spared too, dont think its such a hard choice :)
You know the rest of his family had to go out ya know? That’s a hard choice. It was either help the village or help the Uchiha and your family. I would’ve left Konoha and the clan, and only saved my family.
it is true that madara can't be trusted, and itachi isn't known for being the most honest guy either. but one thing is for certain that brings this all together and that's the fact that itachi loved his little brother, that much is clear because of all the times he protected him.

There is sad story about Itachi’s girlfriend, her name was Izumi Uchiha. In Itachi Light novel, it was reveal that Itachi killed her, by putting her under a tsukuyomi. Letting her lived the rest of her life, married to him; so that she can die happy
The coup by the Uchiha would have ended in a multi nation war. Other villages would pounce at the chance. Like the sand and sound did in OG naruto. The 3rd tried to settle issues with diplomacy but failed the only outcome that didn't end in a possible war was to kill off the Uchiha. The village is made up of dozens of clans forming an alliance. I would kill off 1 clan out of 30 to avoid a world war too. The Uchiha were planning yo kill the third and higher ups and rule the village they lost the chess game and were killed first.

I think maybe it’s because you just witnessed one of the most beautiful plot twists of Naruto .. and because Itachi is awesome
Not just for his his brother but revenge for his entire family that he didn’t actually get revenge for.
So, yeah. I think Itachi’s truth was intended all along.
ikr he couldve killed kakashi guy and the others back in og naruto if he was a villain
Tell me why did torture sasuke showing him getting parents killed for 24 hours twice?
Tell me why itachi said sasuke to kill his best friend? How would he be hero of leaf if he killed his best friend?
Itachi was a retcon, a character, that doesn't make sense.
@@allipse8224
Akira fudo is laughing
@@babybeel6469 just started Devilman liking it so far
Idk if human is the right word. Most humans wouldn't kill there clan for the bigger picture. He was maybe the most emotionally intelligent is how I'd describe it
Fair enough. I guess a better way to say it is that he’s flawed. He was obviously far from perfect but did what he believed was for the greater good, that’s not to say what he did was right.
@@willboyheroify It is human to commit a sin
"Please let me stay like this for a while"
During D-Day, out of everyone, Itachi chose to go to her first.
She eventually passed on from old age in the dream and when the jutsu ended, her lips slowly formed into a smile, her voice sounding like an old woman whispered "Thank you." (For giving me what i always wanted) Itachi grabbed onto her shoulders and wept, "i should be the one thanking you, Izumi." "Thank you for loving me"
With that you know the rest. Itachi never again developed romantic feelings for another person in memory of Izumi. She was his first and last love. I do hope they end up together in an alternate universe.
Wow, where was all that, novels?
@@eritonythegreat8318 Yup, itachi daylight and midlight novels the author specifically dedicated just for him. It goes through his life in the hidden leaf and small tidbits of Kakashi and others as well. (Philosophy, powers, love life etc)

@@Assassink309 oh thank you alot
Just a little interesting tidbit to make things even sadder in this whole scenario: when ‘Madara’ mentioned that Itachi also killed “his lover,” he meant it. We don’t really see it in the series but before the Uchiha massacre, Itachi was deeply in love with the girl of his dreams basically. When it came time for the massacre, he killed her by placing her inside of a Tsuokoyomi where she got to live out and experience a future together with him as a family, and basically just left her in there to experience that joy and happiness until her body in the real world died of starvation/dehydration
I knew the second he touched his forehead with 2 fingers that he loved his little brother always
"Sorry Sasuke... This is it" Him saying that hits different
too bad the subtitles are stupid, he says "kore de saigo da" which means "this is the end"

The thing is the easiest way to manipulate someone is with the truth because you can frame it however you please while maintaining legitimacy.
Especially legendary one like this, you wanna believe it.
I mean he had mangekyou sasuke didn’t what else is there to say 🤷
When you realize the whole fight was actually:
Sasuke trying to kill Itachi vs. Itachi trying not to kill Sasuke
I think we're in a similar situation in the future

@@tortoiseknight8438 It's still trampling on Itachi's effort and death imo. @@GabrielLopez-pt2lx he prevented a war but still killed a clan wow what a good pacifist 🤣

One of the biggest plot twists in anime history
The sole prime of Naruto Shippuden is about to come
I know I'm late, but it *looked like* you completely missed the reveal that Itachi was sick.
*** Some might consider the text below to have (minor) spoilers ***
Tobi said that Itachi even prolonged his life with medication/drugs to be able to give Sasuke the final fight.

Poor Itachi, he really killed the whole clan to avoid war, just for his lil bro to be the one charging into it ...
If the Uchichas started their civil war, many people would die, the Uchichas would have lost because of the numbers of clans in the village, but the two sides would be too weak against attack from surrounding country like the Sand who just waited for a weakness to attack (like when Orochimaru kill our 3rd Hokage) so, Itachi just choose between sacrifices and lesser sacrifices, that's all
Remember itachi was 13 when he kill the clan and 21 when he die.
I liked itachi in og Naruto but this was when he became my second favorite character.
"Sorry Sasuke, some other time"
I'm just here waiting for my boy PAIN to show up
Although Itachi was a spy for the ANBU, his burdens were amplified when his father - at the head of the coup - wanted him to spy on the ANBU
With the threat of the coup d'etat, pacifist Itachi was left with two terrible options: let the Uchiha fight and cause a massive and brutal civil war, or kill them all before they could.

Itachi kills his entire clan to protect the village. Sasuke finds out and decides to destroy the leaf village in Itachi's honor lol
