(Dohā): Dayā dharam kā mūl hai; narak (pāp) mūl abhimān.
Tulasī dayā na chhoriye; kī jab tak gat me' (men) prān.
The foundation (root) of all religion (righteousness) is the act of
showing mercy; and the root of all unrighteousness (sin) is pride.
    Tulsidas therefore beseech ye, never stop (leave off) showing mercy;
until the day you draw your last breath (as long as you have life).
    0. Magan bhaye Tulasī; Rām ko .... Magan bhaye ....
Magan bhaye Tulasī, Rām gun gāy ke; Magan bhaye Tulasī.
O Rām gun gāy ke; Rām dhun gāy ke. Magan bhaye ...
Tulsidas is blissfully immersed, bretheren, in singing the praises
(merit) of Shri Ram. Sing the praises (merit, accomplishments)
of Ram, sing the glories (tune) of Ram.
    1. Rājā chale hāthī ghore; pālakī sajāy ke. (Āṛāūī)
Sādhu chale bhuiye-bhuiye; chī'tī bachāy ke.
The king travels by elephants and horses in a palanquin (covered
conveyance). The sadhu travels (by foot) on the ground; and
is careful to save (not to step on) any small creatures (literally, ants).
    2. Rājā soye mahal dumahalā; kamare bichhāy ke.
Sādhu soye bhuiye-bhuiye; mrig-chālā bichhāy ke.
The king sleeps in (grand) palaces; in (elegant) rooms on
fancy beddings. The sadhu sleeps on the ground; with only
a deer-skin (to keep out the elements).
    3. Rājā khaye purī kachaurī; laddū-jī mangāy ke.
[Rājā khaye laddu peṛā (pedā); barafī mangāy ke.]
Sādhu khaye rūkhī-sūkhī (lupke-chupke); bhog lagāy ke.
The king eats puri (fried flat and crispy bread) & kachauri (small
fried vegetable-pies); and demands laddus (balls of sweet), peras
(milk-rich hand-shaped sweets) or barfi (rectangular sweets).
The sadhu (quickly & silently) eats whatever he can get; and does
not crave (care for) worldly pleasures.
4.Rājā orhe shālā bishālā; goa sakhī (sāthī se) sajāy ke.
Sādhu orhe kamāle vālā; na duniyā mangāy ke.
The king is covered (wrapped-up) in fancy institutions; with well-
dressed female companions. The sadhu is covered (clothed)
by good deeds; and claims (asks for) nothing in this world.
