I do love the idea of a new dream. You cannot re do your wedding. You can plan an anniversary trip that could rival a royal tour. Have some wedding party people meet you there for a day or two. I am sure their being mad at their mother in this situation is probably because they are tired of their mother never putting a stop to the verbal abuse their stepfather heaps on them. It sounds as if it could be a weekly event, if not daily and mom just allows it to happen. She should have given her husband an ultimatum of leave my children alone or we will divorce. Been there, done that…but in my situation it was me and my oldest son getting the emotional abuse but not my youngest son. Ex was a baseball player in high school and my youngest played soccer and hockey, but my oldest was more into books and learning. Ex held it against him, I guess. I don’t think John and Jeff are going to stop spoiling the girls. John has a point why don’t you ask John and Jeff to help with the other college funds and if they can’t do it that’s fine but they might be able to you don’t know until you ask, it’s not fair to the girls to give up their college funds just because the other kids have to go to state schools they don’t have to go to college at all they don’t want to, and if they do decide to go to college on their case, they will have loans to pay Yes, you can be jealous, but not an a hole about it.
People have this weird idea that a state school is some low end education and an expensive private college is better. These are the same people who think that if you buy something on sale it is not as good as paying full price. State schools rival even the Ivy League schools in many states.

Rich Uncles: NTA. Life is tough and not fair. In some ways I was very privileged. In some ways my childhood was horrific. This led me to understand that I can never expect a fair shake in life, and that we must all do what we can, with what we have. It sucks that only some of OP’s kids have college expenses paid, but them’s the breaks sometimes. I had wealthy parents that refused to help at all with college and left me homeless at 18. I didn’t realize my 18th birthday was my ejection date. I was adopted, and it made a very big difference. I don’t begrudge my family that had more opportunities handed to them. At least not for that - we’re NC for other reasons.

Seems like helping 3 kids through college would be easier than 5 kids. If they hadn't married, he would still have to help 3 kids get their education so what's the problem?

Sometimes successful people has to struggle in their early days but in future you are sure that your son will look back and be proud of his own hardworks.
As a kid who struggled through primary school and had to put three times the effort to even get B-grades, I agree. You just need to have somebody to believe in and encourage you, then somehow things seem to ‘click.’
Stepfather should be glad someone else is taking the financial burden off his shoulders so now he can focus all of his extra finances on his son’s college fund…but of course, he gets angry and jealous that the girls get a free ride while his son will probably have some debt to pay back. The way he acts would make you think that it was him going to college and not his son!

While I feel for Taylor, this story exemplifies why I think too much emphasis is placed on weddings, the engagement and wedding rings and all. Some people cannot get over the idealized concept that they have been cultivating and deal with being realistic. Taylor needs counseling and maturing.
The bottom line is that Stacey and Emily don’t have a father. The other kids all have two parents. Husband has had 18 years to get ready for oldest son to go to college. Does he have a 401k he can take money out of?

I am sure their being mad at their mother in this situation is probably because they are tired of their mother never putting a stop to the verbal abuse their stepfather heaps on them. It sounds as if it could be a weekly event, if not daily and mom just allows it to happen. She should have given her husband an ultimatum of leave my children alone or we will divorce. Been there, done that…but in my situation it was me and my oldest son getting the emotional abuse but not my youngest son. Ex was a baseball player in high school and my youngest played soccer and hockey, but my oldest was more into books and learning. Ex held it against him, I guess. I regret that I didn’t do something sooner, but we can’t turn back time🤷🏼♀️

I don’t think John and Jeff are going to stop spoiling the girls. John has a point why don’t you ask John and Jeff to help with the other college funds and if they can’t do it that’s fine but they might be able to you don’t know until you ask, it’s not fair to the girls to give up their college funds just because the other kids have to go to state schools they don’t have to go to college at all they don’t want to, and if they do decide to go to college on their case, they will have loans to pay Yes, you can be jealous, but not an a hole about it.
People have this weird idea that a state school is some low end education and an expensive private college is better. These are the same people who think that if you buy something on sale it is not as good as paying full price.
State schools rival even the Ivy League schools in many states.

Rich Uncles: NTA. Life is tough and not fair. In some ways I was very privileged. In some ways my childhood was horrific. This led me to understand that I can never expect a fair shake in life, and that we must all do what we can, with what we have. It sucks that only some of OP’s kids have college expenses paid, but them’s the breaks sometimes. I had wealthy parents that refused to help at all with college and left me homeless at 18. I didn’t realize my 18th birthday was my ejection date. I was adopted, and it made a very big difference. I don’t begrudge my family that had more opportunities handed to them. At least not for that - we’re NC for other reasons.
