It's nice to see someone talking so passionately about something they love.
I have been considering reading a classic written by woman and I think I am gonna read Mary Shelley , so thanks for recommending

I really love your channel. I was wondering if you could do a video about the most disturbing/shocking/surprising books you’ve ever read. I’d be very curious what you’d say.

Great thoughts! I very rarely read female authors, I've noticed, so it's super to get some nice recommendations to think about.

I have so many, many books yet to read but I loved Dodie Smith's I Capture the Castle, Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights, Daphne Du Maurier's Rebecca (but I have a feeling that I would love anything by her), Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Frances Hodgsons Burnett The Secret Garden, Betty Smith's A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Pearl Buck's The Good Earth, Maxine Hong Kingston's Warrior Woman, Mary Ann Shaffer's The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, etc. But I am open to more women writers sitting on my bookshelves calling my name. Currently reading Joan Lindsay's Picnic at Hanging Rock-I was obsessed by the 1979 film version whose essence still has not left me yet.

Pearl Buck's "The Good Earth" is one of the best books I've ever read.

I love Margaret Atwood of "The Handmaid's Tale" fame. I've read almost every novel she's ever written. She's fantastic!
My favorite Arthurian retelling is "The Mists of Avalon", by Marion Zimmer Bradley. If you have not read it, you're in for a treat. It's one of those books you can't stop thinking about.

@@MarelisaFabrega it’s really good. She wrote it when she was 16 and based it on students in her high school. Her real name’s Susan Eloise Hinton.

I haven’t read any of Rebecca Ross's books, even though I have A River Enchanted on my bookshelf🤭 I’ll fix that before this year ends.
Roshani Chokski I've only read The Star-Touched Queen from her and I truly enjoyed it, still need to pick up the next book though🫣Thanks for the recommendations of these female authors, I will check them out.

I like fantasy, but I'm a little surprised your whole list was fantasy since you also read a lot of classics. And even in the world of fantasy... have you read Ursula LeGuin? I love Lathe of Heaven (though it isn't the one you hear most about from her). Great video!

*Such* a joy 💖👌 Audio clips for both Chokshi & Chakraborty really appeal to me & I have *got* to read DOTForest (or T Dark Mirror). I read TMOAvalon in my early 30's & to this day (im 51) i still have visceral images / feelings that recall in an instant.. austere Dark Age fantasy gah 💔 (visited Tintagel castle not long afterward 💕❤‍🩹).. favourite Arthurian screen adaptation is still also Excalibur (1981) despite it's being *so* very dated 😅Mirren & Nic Clay (dark n magical) 👍😎. I digress lols! 😊

Since you mentioned Frankenstein, I want to finally read it for the first time this year, but I'm not sure which version to go for. I know there's the 1818 text and then the "revised" version with Percy Shelley's input. Which one do you recommend I read first?
