Hollywood came knocking, but the actress was not interested in anything they had to offer & you have to respect her for that alone!
She insisted that she can't give a good performance in any other language but her native Japanese.
It happened in Japan in movie too. I mean, should’ve let her speaking Japanese and had the translator for it FCS! We had Sofia in the movie for it already and it’s fine.
@@suchadamilanata9955 honestly, disagree. Having Kaji Meiko in the cast, then over-dubbing her with a random english voice would loose so much of her performance that it wouldve become pointless to have her in the first place.
Even with considering that her roles usually doesn't talk much.
I would be the happiest if Kaji wouldve made a hollywood successsince that would mean bigger chance to got into the tiny hungarian market and cinema here, but wouldve lost too much in the process I believe.
It's too likely that the us filmmaking would focus too much on the "exploitation" genre, whoch Kaji's films much more and better than.
outside of 2 hostels hollywood failed to produce a single scary horror movie...

i guess no one saw any of the many tarantino interviews where he clearly stated that most of kill bill comes directly from lady snowblood? none of you seem to understand that kill bill is a homage to westernized versions of japanese films, not a homage so much, to lady snowblood directly. without 7 samurai, there would be no magnificent 7. in fact, without kurasawa's work, there would be no fistfull of dollars, the good the bad, & the ugly, for a few dollars more, or even for that matter, star wars. look for c3po and r2d2 in the hidden fortress. not just kurasawa, either. how many american films adapted zatoichi?

Comparing Kill Bill to Lady Snowblood is like comparing A Fistful of Dollars to Yojimbo. All great films and in both cases, stories created by their inspiration in the other, inspirations which Leone and Tarantino have always been vocal about. And we can do this with every film because cinema, like every art, always takes inspiration from something prior to it. That’s how it works, Tarantino didn’t rip-off Lady Snowblood and acted like that film never existed, and neither did Leone
