AAArh Eddie Vedder. You know ... I would have given anything to meet him when I was 17. I've build a part of my identity on his persona as a teenager. I wanted people to relate to me as a PJ fan. I employed myself to copy every single feature of his look, his breast pocketed jackets, his worn out sneakers, his hair, his behavior, I wanted to frown like him when he appeared on stage and giving people this image of a distant and reluctant person (that I wasn't) hoping that a girl would finally say "hey you know you look like "Eddie Vedder". It's been hard to become an adult ... especially when I had to accept that I wasn't Eddie Vedder.
I feel you there. Weirdly enough I saw in Eddie a person I've always been my whole life. A quiet, shy, rebellious, angry person who hated attention didn't like talking. Someone who never smiles much as myself. Out of all famous people I've looked up to all my life I found that his personality was the closest to mine. Politically we definitely don't see eye to eye but personality wise he's almost my twin. We also both have baritone voice and German heritage
F.... f.... f..... I don't like the idea of pouring my love for that band on youtube and bearing the idea of being just another fan among millions but this really comes from the bottom of the heart. I don't think it's about Shannon. Hoon didn't pass away until over a year after this show, and if you listen to the lyrics or Eddie's description before they play the song you can tell it's just about the girl from the No Rain video.
One of first gigs without Dave Abruzzese on the skins, energy has never been the same. One of the greatest bands of the 90’s for sure, but their best was 4/2/94 in Atlanta and 4/11/94 in Boston.

Eddie did meet Shannon Hoon. Blind Melon toured as the opening act for a short Pearl Jam & Neil Young co -headline tour in September 1993 on the west coast (North America)
More like Eddie Vedder & Friends. Most times you see PJ, all they show is EV. Be nice to see the rest of the band performing and not just one second or a glance here & there.
petra pez agreed i saw them twice from 90-92, three times after. vedder was so much more interested in engaging the audience in that early window, and in a very real way it altered the dynamic. it was uniquely uplifting, like perry farrell on nothing's shocking. that said, pearl jam is still one of the best live bands on the planet; anytime, anywhere
I'm not sure if this concert took place before or after the Roskilde tragedy (if you're not sure what that is, it was a rock festival that took place in Denmark where about seven people were trampled to death right before the band's eyes.) I heard he took that pretty hard, even developing post traumatic stress disorder over it. That's probably a big reason, and if that's not the case then there might have been something else stressful happening in his life. Poor Eddie.
This was a few years before Roskilde. The band was in a transitional phase at this point, dealing with the pressures of fame, drafting in Jack to replace Dave Abbruzzese, probably still reeling from Kurt's death and who knows what else internally. It was a super creative time for the band but perhaps quite a challenging period.
2024 Still love them so much!
