I could be wrong, but I don't think the 1974x means the year 1974. Just like a late 60s Marshall Plexi is called a 1959.
Correction regarding the amp - Marshall originally issued the 1974x in the SIXTIES! i.e. 1966 - 68.

What's that thing on your head?You either had a bad hair day or you're a really stylish jew.The '61 is the best sounding,easiest playing guitar I ever owned.Unfortunately,the neck and neck joint are TOO thin and go out of whack too easity.Expect neck adjustment monthly if you don't break it completely playing on the road.
I can tell you now overly fanatic Epiphone fan, I own an Epiphone g-400 65 reissue deluxe with maestro, and have played almost every form of the G-400 out there, and I can tell you that Gibsons are better feel, quality, and tone! Not trying to be a mean, but come on dude!
Please, let Rob Chappers always do the talking and of course the playing!

my friend had an sg and it was a beast. then it neck dove to the pavement, came off the strap, and the neck snapped off as it hit the ground.

Epi SG's SUCK* I mean. But I don have like 4 Epiphones and they have always been my favorite, but the quality of a Gibson SG 61 reissue is in a entirely did league than the Epi Sg400
1974 is the model, it's actually a '68 style amp.
After the SG was born, what's the point of having any more Les pauls?

Anyone who tries to put Epiphone in the same league as Gibson is deluded in my opinion. I own an Epiphone G400 SG and a Gibson SG standard and the Gibson blows it away. Don't get me wrong for £179.99 the G400 is an amazing guitar but when you put them side by side its Gibson all the way for me.

@LateNightShredder World Guitars and Chappers will always work together - I'm there every month, so hopefully I'll get through most of them ;-)
@kramerguitarist I would agree with that, my SG neck was designed for mickey mouse hands... Honestly, I'm happy with my custom telecaster's neck, I've been nothing but dissapointed by the base models that fender and gibson put out, considering all the third party companies that offer more features for less.

I'm not a fan of the colour, but the tone is great, as with all all Gibson guitars, bar the Melody Maker.
really dark amp but I bet he has the tone down because he has to have the mids scooped or he poops himself.
That tone is pure rock and roll.

The wood and the electronics are a little lacking but overall they feel the same. I do, however, personally like how my G400 has no fretboard binding.

So I play an SG Special Faded WC, my friend has an epiphone les paul, my guitar doesnt even sound louder, it stays in tune longer and it sounds not as mushy as the lp from epiphone. Trust me, pay every cent you can on a Gibson guitar and you pay every cent right.
What incredible TONE! Amongst the best recorded tones on any of your videos to date! Amazing! :-)
Hi Rob "The Legend" Chappers, I love this reissue - I thought it was supposed to be a 63 "SG standard" custom shop repro rather than 61 reisue (Les/SG) made by the USA division but must be wrong - I can't get a Les Paul as I am far to fat and can't reach or see the fingerboard have to have an SG instead!! :-(

Been waiting a long time to see this amp on your channel Rob. I own one myself and I dont think there is another amp with quite the same level of win. I think you had mentioned in another video that you actually had one of your own, am I remembering correctly and if so, do you still have it? I think these amps have a wonderful clean-ish when used with single coils and you do some great work in that vein as well as the metally stuff; Id love to see you do some of that.

@Super3Dsound, the neck would not stay put, I had to mess with the truss rod every day, and sounded out of tune, even after having it intonated

Which is the best, this one or the sg standard 2016 t?
Had one of these, great sounding, playing guitar, but had some neck issues.
I have a chambered les paul that is a little heavier than an sg, and sounds amazing.

I think your right. The production 61' reissues get 57' classics. Even thought this one is a custom shop and most custom shops get the burstbuckers. Being that it is modeled after a 61' it most likely has the 57's. I put 57's in my 04' sg standard along with orange drop caps. cts pots and a tone pros bridge and tail.Players tell me it sounds as close as you can get to a custom shop without spending all the coin. LOL. Rock on!
LesterPaul01 custom shop Les Paul SG 61 standards only have burstbuckers fitted. Your thinking of the Gibson USA 61 reissue that has 57’s fitted.
