    Thank you. The 'fix' that I like to suggest is feet-out rowing. That will prevent you from hanging on to the stroke for too long into the bow.

    The extreme angles of this rowing style are not contributing much to forward acceleration and he would probably gain if he moves the oarlocks out a little and increases the length of the lighter oar to keep the same inertia and lever effort on the rower. The swept oar angle should a little less than 90 degrees kept symmetrical to a right angle with the boat. Note that at 45 degrees the forward component is 0 .707 of the maximum and that is assuming the oar does not have a standing start in its pulsating action. Such extreme angles should be avoided in racing, and though the rower feels good about his sweating effort, the energy transfer is not going to the right state/direction required.
