Tabata Workout for Beginners & Seniors // Low Impact Cardio!

  • Thanks for joining me for this fun low impact cardio Tabata workout!
    What's Tabata? Tabata is just the name for the specific timing of this type of interval training.
    It looks like this:
    20 seconds of work
    10 seconds of rest
    repeat this 8x totaling 4 minutes. This equals 1 round
    In this workout we will complete 4 rounds with a 60 second break between each round.
    Got it? Let's do this!!! Warm up and cool down are included in this video. Go at your own pace and make the workout your own!
    All exercises are performed in a standing position and are low impact. You don't need any equipment. Let me know how you like it in the comments and thanks for working out with me!

    A perfect Tabata! I broke a sweat (in spite of the room I workout in being 66º). It's a good level; I work hard but don't get that nausea that I have often gotten in the past when doing Tabata. 🌟

    I think HIIT workouts are essential to our weekly fitness routine. This one was fun and went by quickly😅 glad you mixed it up by repeating 4 moves instead of 8. Keep these type of workouts coming 😊

    Really liked this one. It sure didn't seem like 25 minutes. Added about 1300 steps and burned those calories. You offer such a great variety and encouragement.

    Hi 👋 I recently found you looking for a different over 50 exercises, I watched quite a few of your videos and look forward to completing the entire video eventually, I have no excuse not to exercise everyday now. You have so much variety. I like your music, and the exercises, I look forward to doing the dancing one, the wall Pilates, I will try eventually.     I have been doing your workouts for almost 2 months and have lost 2 or more inches in my problem areas! I find them to be challenging but I am able to keep up which makes me happy-just my speed!💜

      So glad you love it Marilyn! I was actually planning on doing a new Tabata workout very soon. I wasn't planning on adding weights, but It would be easy for you to add on the 1kg weight.

    I appreciate that the sets aren’t repeated more than twice. I tend to get bored or stop because I dread the repeat!

    Again, another awesome workout! And as for speed… everyone has to do the best they can! I see you as an exercise technique demonstrator and beyond that we’re on our own! Lol!     Did this plus the 10 minute arms, great combo. What I like about your workouts is the pace requires us to use our muscles and you incorporate all our muscles into your routines.

      You can always just work through the rest periods. It wouldn't be tabata though. Maybe check out my other HIIT workouts. They have a 45 second work period followed by a 15 sec rest.

      @@SeniorShapeFitness Yep. You're right. I looked it up. The intervals and length of work periods are integral to the Tabata exercise type. So. Ok. I'll go back to your "Functional" routine or other similar ones.
      Kudos to the Japanese speed skating coach that invented " Tabata," though.

    Loved this workout! Got my heart beating more than the straight cardio workouts. I’m the poster child for, ‘You do you’! Love when you say, ‘don’t worry if you can’t touch your ankle, just touch you knee’. I think, ‘thigh count’? Thanks again Lauren!

    Didn’t think I’d be able to do this but started slow until my stents opened my arteries and it was so good. Lots of stretches in all directions. I jogged slowly during the breaks rather than stop completely. Loved it. Once again Lauren a different class . I don’t know how you do it but don’t stop😅

    I'm not a senior but I am a beginner doing stuff in my living room and found your channel. I really like your walking videos but I did really enjoy this video a lot.     I really like the short sets of each exercise and only repeating twice. It made me work harder knowing it was going to end quickly! 😊 I also always appreciate that you say how many sets, movements, etc. are left. I feel like I can finish when I know the end is coming. 😂

    Great workout! Love your reminder cues: shift weight, toes back, flex foot etc. when you have a chance, could you show figure 4 stretch with cross at ankle? Not sure how to position foot?

      To do the figure 4 stretch at your ankle: position the outside of your ankle (on the leg that is crossing) over your other ankle or shin. Make sure your knee is turned out to the side, rotating from your hip. It looks exactly like the leg does in the same stretch at the knee, it's just that your ankle is lower down on your leg. Hope that helps!

    Just finished this amazing workout! Love the different moves, especially the curtsy lunges! Love those!! You really feel those muscles working!     I can't believe I started out thinking OK I'll do one minute. As I age my exercise motivation is dwindling, so I amazed myself by doing 12 minutes with gusto. You are really easy to follow and you look as fresh as the first daisy of May! Thank you for this opportunity to MOVE again.

    I just did two of your Tabata workouts back to back!!!! Great sessions....love the format you used for these. I am getting ready to begin the final workout for the day (Arms & Abs). Such a great way to get energized after a weekend with a LOT of indulgences 😉 Thanks for all that you offer on your site...no one matches my needs as well as your sessions!!!

    When I got up this morning, I really wasn’t feeling it! But I made myself do the thing and chose this workout. It was my first time doing this particular video and I’m glad I did! I love how you always emphasize make it your own. Great job again. Thanks!

    Thank you Lauren. I have joint issues and sometimes it is hard to get a good aerobic workout. I was able to do this workout and got up a "good sweat"! You are always such a great and encouraging coach and easy to follow. Love your videos.

    I've never done Tabata exercise, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I really enjoyed.

    Very good. On the second round of the "v" steps I did 2 on each side before switching sides. It made it easier for my brain to keep up.😊
