It's a shame really, because the OUYA could have been a decent Android game console.

FFS not you too, Larry! Why are so many TH-camrs accepting sponsorships from Established Titles?! It's a SCAM!
First of all, that custom does NOT exist. Otherwise, every homeowner in Scotland would be a laird/lord and they aren't.
Secondly, they aren't actually selling you any land whatsoever. None of their "sales" go through the proper channels. This is because it's literally IMPOSSIBLE for them to actually sell you the land.
Selling or buying "souvenir plots" (land which is of inconsiderable size or utility) is 100% ILLEGAL here in Scotland!
The ONLY thing they are selling is a scrap of paper with a fictional fantasy printed on it. They are con artists, pure and simple.

  • @Unchainedful
    @Unchainedful ปีที่แล้ว +56

Just a heads up for established titles, you must go through a formal written title in the UK in order to become a lord or lady, and you must own at least 1-2 acres of land to be known as one. So you can’t just own land to be considered, you must file a letter of request for Britain nobility for the title. Planting a tree doesn’t actually give you this title. Also, the US and most countries outside of Europe and even a few countries in Europe does NOT recognize these titles, you cannot put them as a title for your name. They are simply just a piece of paper stating you planted a tree, nothing more, nothing less.

Sega in the Saturn era was just stupid, but one could argue a lot of the issues they had around that time were because of Japan's obsession with beating Nintendo in the market in any capacity. Had they considered the long-term ramifications (and how translating the success in Japan directly to America could work instead of adapting to what they THOUGHT America wanted...seriously, the Saturn could have made a killing in the US had they not kept the majority of the RPGs in Japan because, ironically, the RPG market in the US was starting to boom at the time what with FF6, Chrono Trigger, Phantasy Star 4, and Earthbound either released or on the horizon), they could have mitigated all this AND still been a force in the console wars for longer than they were.

According to the wiki, he was originally a Holocaust survivor. And when asked about his time in Auschwitz, he said "The Germans didnt kill Jews, the rules did." Interesting take to say the least. But, whats really interesting, is when he started his computer company he actually took out a 25k loan from Germany.
They asked "Why should we give you any money?" To which Jack said to them "Im a holocaust survivor. And that it would be great business marketing." Wow...

In Tramiel's defense, what he actually said was that the PlayStation was "little, little more bit powerful in some areas - but not in others. It's a little bit more stronger than the Jaguar. A little, little bit". It was still an idiotic statement, though
Editing my post to clarify: further in the article, he said that "the PlayStation is a little bit more - not more technology, but PlayStation does have more memory than the Jaguar, it's using more silicon as a solution".
And in Stolar's defense, he didn't kill the Saturn. Saturn was already dead the moment Steve Race got on the stage saying "299". Not to mention that not only Saturn was a very difficult console to program for, even Yu Suzuki admitted that, it was never profitable for Sega since that machine was so complex that coming up with a cost-effective hardware revision was near impossible. Not to mention that Saturn's big name games just weren't selling, because everyone was too busy playing PlayStation, me included. So the best thing Stolar did was discontinuing the Saturn because that console was killing Sega.

I worked in a game shop mid 90s and another thing that Sega did to screw up the Saturn was that they had 'done their research' and the vast majority of people had TVs with SCART in their houses, but that tended to be the main telly in the lounge, and at this time gaming was still mostly done in a young person's bedroom on a 14" portable TV many of which didn't have SCART sockets, the lead included with the Saturn would use. So Sega sold the RF leads separately, I think they were about £25, on top of the console being £399 at launch, nobody was going to pay £425 + games when the Playstation was £299, and had more games already.

XBox One was such a clusterfuck - always on, Kinect whether you want it or not, gesture controls whether you want it or not, DRM'd discs that couldn't be traded. Microsoft had to backtrack on all of that but they still got reamed by Sony.

    • @DjVortex-w
      @DjVortex-w 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Microsoft clearly had the idea that they wanted to induce game developers to create tons of games from the Kinect by ensuring that every single Xbox One owner had one, and thus was a potential customer for such games.
The problem with the original Kinect was that only a small fraction of Xbox 360 owners had one, and thus developing a game for it was developing a game for a much smaller market than just outright developing a normal game for the Xbox 360. This wasn't very tempting for game development companies. After all, why put resources to create a game for a peripheral with a relatively small market size when the exact same resources could be put into a game for market 10 times larger (or even more)?
Thus, I'm sure that Microsoft's idea was that since every single Xbox One owner was guaranteed to have Kinect 2, that would induce more developers to write games for it, because there was no difference in the size of either customerbase (as they were the one and same).
How wrong they were. The number of Kinect games for the Xbox One is abysmal (even before Microsoft made the peripheral optional and started selling consoles without one bundled.) Even with the incentive of every Xbox One owner having the device, game developer companies weren't interested.

I think Bernie's comments with the Saturn, while damning, can also be excused. Becuase Sega of Japan and Sega of America were closer to rivals then branches of the same company. SoA had a completely different next gen console they were working on that DID use the Arcade technology that they were developing at the same time as SoJ was making the Saturn. So his "Saturn is not our future" likely was refering to his plans to try and get his system released. I've watched just about every Fact Hunt and this one disappointed me. There's a few cases of stretching of events and facts in this one, and I think it's to make the topic seem more interesting than it is. For instance, saying Stoler killed the Saturn by saying "Saturn is not our future." The Saturn's wreckage had already stopped smoldering by the time he said it and everybody had more or less moved on.
While a lot of Tramiel's quotes are silly amounts of dumb, some made sense in context. For instance, the Nintendo part: He was right at the time. Nintendo was known for not taking big leaps and staying safe. They made sturdy, reliable consoles based on proven technology. They rarely stuck their neck out. Nothing in the SNES, NES, or Gameboy was revolutionary. Lastly, while his claim on ITC dumping was a bit "we can't win so we'll sue" and scummy, he was correct. Foreign companies operating within the US are bound by "dumping" laws that prohibit them (Sony) hurting domestic companies (Atari) by selling products under their production cost. It is a "rules for thee but not for me" thing, but he was 100% correct. That's a benefit Atari had as a US based company.

no kidding, quite a few of the best games for dreamcast became the best games on ps2/gamecube/xbox after they were ported. It didn't have the biggest library of games but for what it did have it was like having a ps2 a few years early.

The Dreamcast was an amazing console. It was so good that Sony released the PS2 a year early, unfinished in order to compete with it. That's why all the launch titles and early games for it were... less than polished, shall we say.

The ACTUAL Sam Tramiel quotes from his Next Generation Magazine interview put up for context.
"Jaguar is as powerful, if not more powerful than Saturn. That we are convinced of, from the technology that we've seen.
"The PlayStation, I must say, is a little, little bit more powerful in certain areas - but not in others."
" Jaguar 2 will be software compatible with Jaguar 1, so all the Jaguar 1 software will be compatible with Jaguar 2… Jaguar 1 has a long life ahead of it at $149. It will be a very successful product. We're here, we're competing, and we will be a major competitor through the '90s. I think that's a really important message."
He was basically saying buy a Jaguar now and you'll be able to play it's titles on it's successor.
Sam wasn't fired either.. He suffered a heart attack in 1995 and was replaced as the head of Atari by his ageing father, Jack
Why is it, yet again the community has to put up what was actually said and what actually happened??

Because content creators like Larry can't do proper research. He does some, but not properly. Watch his video about bricking consoles where consoles aren't bricked, not even by the definition he uses in the video.
His way of speaking comes off as quite arrogant too, since it sounds like he's better than the people he talk about, yet he's not as successful and he's making a lot of mistakes.

I believe you're also missing out on the other VERY KEY stupid thing that Microsoft did. They said that you'd have to pay a fee in order to use 2nd hand games on the console...which was widely mocked by literally everyone, including their competitors. I remember that they practically handed Sony that particular win, who even had a video ready to go on "how to share youre Playstation 4 games" which had someone handing over their game to their friend and saying "enjoy" vs Microsofts massively convoluted system in order to 'share' your game with your friends.

I would advise from using Established Titles.
The Lord or Lady title has no authority and is basically a joke name. Even if you visit Scotland you won't be recognized or treated as a lord or lady. The company itself isn't even in Scotland it was founded in Hong Kong. You're basically paying $50-$200 for a piece of paper with no real authority.

I don't remember where i read that ( so it's dubious information) but iirc, someone at Srga thought that polygon with the then-currdnt tech did'nt look too good and deduced that people would be more interested in high quality sprites.
If that's true, then he largely underestimated the impact that 3d would have on gameplay, and the fact that 3d at all would be a huge draw, regardless of how not so good it looked.

To this day, I really gotta wonder what the hell they were thinking at Microsoft when it came time to launch the Xbox One. I mean, I loved the original Xbox. I would have bought a 360, were it not for the RROD issue. And looking back, I kind of regret not getting one of the later models. So to see them screw the pooch so badly on the Xbox One is just confusing. "Hey gang, here's our new console! It's basically a Tivo with a microphone and a camera that's always on! And you have to have high-speed internet, or your system will become worthless. And you can never use pre-owned games either! Oh, and something about Call of Duty."
