I started recording myself and noticed my onset (didn't know that's what it was called until now) was not clean. Thanks for the deep insights shared here.

Hi Kim am favour from the last zoom live class we had. I have a question. What about a bass singer like me who would like to be more comfortable with my voice. Because when I was young I could pitch a lot higher but as I grew my voice broke down and I am having a hard time accepting this new change. What do I do ?

Oh Favour, thank you so much for reaching out and asking this question. This can be so challenging as our voice can be really connected to our sense of self, our sense of identity. Also many popular songs are pitched higher (more of a tenor range than bass) which can also feel frustrating.
What was it specifically that you liked about your voice before it broke? What qualities? What did you make it mean about yourself?
I remember wishing I could have a bass voice when I was younger because I loved the full, dark resonance of those lower tones. There's something very warm and rich about them that I adore. Is there something about the fullness and depth of your mature voice that you can enjoy? For exmaple, do you like the feeling of the way it resonates in your chest/throat/mouth? And can you start to discover bass singers who you love the tone of your voice who you can look to for inspiration?
