As a working musician, I can tell you that events like this, there’s usually a lot of waiting and waiting around. Drinks always around. He’s drunk. Been there a billion times. Just remember, before being too critical, nobody’s being critical of you. He’s the star
I'm welling up with tears here! Jake is one of most influential, respected, talented, and loved hard rock players in history, and it's GREAT to see him back! TRULY GREAT! A world class MASTER, just like Randy Rhoads! Considering all these years that passed by, and how technical the material is, his current playing is fantastic! WE LOVE YOU JAKE! WELCOME BACK FRIEND!
I was there that night and saw the show in person... it was pretty bad. But he had only played one show with the new band at this point, and he hadn't performed in years. They billed this gig as "THE RETURN OF THE LEGENDARY JAKE E. LEE." He was incredibly nervous and spent most of the show pacing, tuning and smoking. I met him the next morning and had a conversation with him... the signature Charvel that they provided him wouldn't stay in tune for shit. He finally threw it on the ground offstage at the end of the show. And I'm sorry, but I've owned an EVH amp... this sounds pretty much like mine did. Not great at all. I've seen other videos since where he kicked ass. Don't judge him by this show. I felt bad because I slammed him on facebook the night before, but the next day when I met him, he's still a rock legend. And super humble. And I get the feeling he was really disappointed in himself. Wanted to do well. At the end of the day I hugged him and told him we missed him, and I was glad he was back.
Chris Brightwell I met him that next night & got pictures with him. He was so cool & just so humble. It was hard to watch him that night with people walking out on him & yelling stuff. He clearly was having issues with that guitar. I remember him pointing at it at one point during the show & I could see him mouthing something about it. He was obviously pissed off by that point.
That was not a guitar tuning problem. There is so much random hand/pick noise in that playing, it was just really sloppy. It was probably from not playing everyday but i would think they would have woodshedded before going back on stage.
Okay, so it's not just me...cause I kept saying "damn, Jake's playing looks on par but what's coming out of that guitar doesn't sound like what Jake's fretting on the neck".
what I hate so much is when a guitar player, such as Randy, is taken to early they say they talk about how great he would've been if he'd have lived but when a great player, such as Jake, gets older they say how bad he is now! fellas, we all wish we were a version of our younger selves but things change. lives change. habits change. it's life but it will never ever change what Jake can and, thank the good Lord, still does do to that fret board! he is the best and I will always continue to support him in any thing he does! We Love You Jake!!!!
Jake is still incredible. Time will take a toll on all of us. I saw him a few times in the 80s he was awesome. Don't count him out. Jake wrote most of that album and Ozzy took a lot of the credit. Love Ozzy and all the legends, but time takes its toll. It has damn sure taken a toll on me. Pray for Jake and remember we all have problems, but we all don't have his technical or practiced knowledge.
I've always wondered what happened to Jake over the years, and this isn't the greatest show ever... but I'm still a fan playing Bark At The Moon on my guitar, and here I can see he's still got it. Good to see.
Kinda looks like Page here haha Jake is the man, who cares if he isnt hitting every note perfectly, it's fuckin rock and roll. This shit happens when playing live. Deal with it. This dude tore it up in the 80s.
Going for a Zeppelin vibe on the intro? Cool way to tune up. Amazes me how critical people get of performances captured on a phone. Ya know.. the walls aren't bending behind him... that's the camera. Be glad he's alive and sharing. I for one am tremendously excited.
As much as I love Jake, I have to agree - he needs to get off the bottle & get back in the wood shed and hammer his chops back together. Pullin' for ya Jake!
Jake E. Lee is AMAZING! That riff is a classic! And look how happy he is playing! And hes playing well too! SPOT ON! The audio recording is quite bad in this video but that doesnt hide the fact that Jake is a great player this day today! One of the best!!!
I think it is cool! You can hear Jake's loud guitar because the camera is right in front of his cabs! EVH mids cut like a knife. It's live..... Thank you Jake for coming back and you can still shred!!!!
hey as a musician, I know this reply might b a little late, but the way I see it, I have a different view of Ozzy now bcuz of the way he did Jake, who I believe to be the most charismatic guitarist of that 80s era, and the close 2nd is lynch. Jake I'm just glad u decided to come back, but the way you tossed ur ax at the end shows what that dick Ozzy almost took from us all, you Jake, love ur playing man don't stop hope to meet you someday, George Roberts from Baltimore, will have videos up soon. Jake is not was but isa GUITAR GOD. IM glad Ozzy's music sucks now, his creativity saved ur career oz, don't u ever 4get that.
I met Jake, years after Ozzy playing the Cleveland Cafe in CLEVELAND, a small, but great landmark. He wasn't very pleasant, but I am still glad I met him, and wish him well. Saw Badlands with Tesla, Great White, at Kent State College...great show by all bands.
Jake is my favorite player and has been since I was 11....but this was clearly not in good form during this performance. So glad to see/hear how much better the band has gotten and he has gotten his chops back up to par as well. He doesn't blaze on the new stuff as much as he used to....but the new album 'Patina' has got some killer riffs and Jake obviously spent a lot of time getting different tones from different guitar, pedal and amp combos. I see all these comments below just shitting all over him and it really sucks.....as if none of you have had bad nights?! Especially coming off of a 20 year hiatus like Jake did. I have seen RDC 5 times now since 2014 and each show gets better and better.....thankfully he has gotten a MUCH better rhythm section to back him and as I said...he has shaken the rust off and gotten most of his chops back. If you are looking for Ozzy/Badlands style burning solos like he used to do....well...you will be disappointed..(he throws some in here and there) ...but if you want to see an amazing player making solid music and putting on great shows....go see RDC on this tour. OH....and thank god he ditched those EVH amps....he is playing through Friedman amps on this tour and his tone has improved 100% from when RDC were on their first tour. Jake still rules.
Lol! Looks like he struggled a bit with the last lick....just like I do! Hard to make the streatch from the 13th to the 17th on the 2nd string and down to 10th fret on the 3rd string. I always have to simplify it. Great to see Jake doing his Jake thing! He was alwys my favorite Ozzy guitarist,
i don't know what to say here......Jake was my idol back in the day.....i played and moved just like him. i think he needs to hack some rust off. i hope to hear him play like it's 1986 all over again.
It happens to all the great ones, Page, Gilmore, we all get older and life slowly takes away what we used to be able to do. Listen to Segovia's later performances. I used to jump off my trucks tailgate, now that I am 48, I just don't do it, I can, but I don't. Getting older doesn't suck, what sucks is not understanding getting older.
he suffers from AFS...... ace frehley syndrome....sad....i saw him with ozzy back in the 80's in seattle..and he was on point and just played his heart out...
Give Jake some fucking credit. He has been doing his own thing 4 a long while. Fuck! He is one of the best in the world! Period! The man was nervous as hell and if u have been out of the scene 4 a while and jump back in its not going to be perfect. If your a guitar player u should understand. If u don't know anything about playing guitar and touring keep your rude ass comments 2 yourself. Jake is an inspiration 2 a lot of young guitar players. He is the reason I picked up a guitar when I was younger. Good 2 see the Jake back kicking ass!
He still wipes the floor with Zak on an off day, and he only needs his index an pinky to do so. How can you be critical if you listen to the two ozzy albums (and see his live performances at the time) and listen to his badlands stuff. A truly amazing guitar player who deserves more credit and respect.
I don't care about one show Jake is the king of Rock guitar for me but I don't classify anyone as best...we all do what we do and I love what he does...it's his own and he owns it...
@ 5:57 i couldn't take it any more. this guy was my idol at one point but he needs to realize these were ozzy songs and they will never sound the same any other way. To put it kindly zak sounds better playing this song than Jake ever did or could at his best....sad face =(.
Warms my heart to hear Jake play again, I have truly missed this guy- As for Ozzy material I wouldn't play a bunch of songs from a guy who fired me and besides, this is about JAKE, Jake fans would rather hear Badlands and what he's doing now than rehashed Ozzy songs.
LOL Everybody knows Ozzy doesn't write music. Like I said it's about Jake and his music, his fans don't want an Ozzy tribute and neither does Jake after seeing Red Dragon's setlists.
Soul Finger Jake's NOT doing Ozzy tribute. He's playing the songs he wrote and to be honest Bark at the Moon tops any piece from Red Dragon Cartel. It's his defining moment. As a fan I love to hearing his stuff from the 80s (Rock n Roll Rebel, Centre of Eternity, Ultimate Sin, Shot in the Dark, Killer of Giants, Lightning Strikes Again etc..)
Love Jake. He's always been one of my biggest idols and influences. He sure rusted a lot. Damn, really. But this is what life is all about, you have you're prime and then you have youre downs. But great to see him having fun, he'll be back. its just those damn drugs and things.
I'm gonna give Jake some slack on this one because there could be a number of things going on here. 1 he just had a off night(Which happens to everyone) 2 the sound is worse then it really was because of being recorded on a cell phone 3 he hasn't been out playing again for that long. I'm still going to see him when he plays here in the Detroit area this June. \m/
Okay, so I never much followed Jake E Lee but i know this.. Shortly after Randy died Ozzy jumped back out on the road. I went to one of the first shows at a small old dump of a gym on the U of Maryland campus called Ritchie Coliseum. I was a huge Rhoads fan, had no idea who the guitarist was going to be and had very low expectations. It was a bit chaotic but the show rocked and Jake E really impressed me, especially given the circumstances. I clicked on this expecting to be wowed and I was, but for all the wrong reasons.Saying this is rough would be an understatement. It was horrific on every front. Those of you saying it is great are tone deaf or fans in denial. The cell camera certainly doesn't help but it is also not hiding the obvious, this sucks! I saw him on That Metal Show and wasn't impressed either. Sometimes it better to stay in hibernation and just let people have their memories.
not sure if your aware of the fact Brad Gillis stepped in and finished the tour with Ozzy, I had tickets to a June show date that they in fact kept and didn't cancel and Brad was the guitarist, did an amazing job and people gave him so much crap for filling in for Randy, wasn't his fault Randy died but they hated on him anyway. With Ozzy Osbourne[edit] With the passing of legendary guitarist Randy Rhoads in March of 1982 during the Diary of a Madman Tour, Brad Gillis was asked to step in and replace Bernie Torme to finish the tour. He can be heard playing lead guitar on Osbourne’s Speak of the Devil live album. Night Ranger already had a record deal with Boardwalk records, and Gillis chose to remain with them once his tenure with Osbourne had concluded.
Hope people can recognize a audio taping from the audience as opposed to one through a mixer, which is the norm for high end recordings of bands. So this is one mic, like from a camera, it's not going to sound good. Especially standing in front of an amp. Dangerous to let video's like this out due to a large group not realizing the quality of what they hear is for the most dictated by sound engineering, not 100% reality. Every band would sound crappy with this recording with the one mic in front of an amp.
Schuriken Imo, if this wasn't recorded with someone's telephone, in front of his speaker, you wouldn't be looking for reason's why it sounds bad. And drinking being an automatic reason for sounding bad is not true. Look at what he is playing, not how it sounds, and it is not from someone sloppy drunk.
I'm not looking for any reasons, he's drunk and it sounds bad at the same time. Why would I think that he was drunk but he sounded great ? That's hard to believe. Only the people who attended the show could tell if this was great or completely off.
Schuriken Insight into sound recording. You can take my experience or not, but that was recorded with a smart phone aimed right at his speaker. When I and most guitarist practice, we do nor sit or stand aimed at the speaker because it gives off an overly EQ'd sound, and at concerts you are hearing sound through the PA too. Couple this with distortion from the mic on the camera and it just sounds like crap. Drunk or not, is that by watching his fingers and considering the lousy recording, that he is not playing like a drunk man. And my biggest point is if this had been recorded with say a camera with an attached mic, it would sound much better, and people would not be looking for reason's why it doesn't, which I have stated a few times! :)
I have played high, stoned, tripping (when younger), and all sorts of ways, and I can't tell the difference listening to the recording. Now stoned drunk is a different matter. But that is not the case here. My prediction is a year from now after months of practice that Jake will be back in form. It's obvious he's just getting the feel back playing live. I stopped playing from 28-46 and after two years, I am twice as good as I was. I doubt he will being a prodigy, but he will still be great.
Great to see you back on the scene Jake!!!! This is an awesome first step don't let anyone tell yah different! Things I'd like to see: you working with Bob again, finding a decent lead singer and please use guitars with the Buzz Feiten tuning system. That Charvel wouldn't stay in tune for shit! Build your own guitar you don't need a brand Jake;you are the brand! You are a legend! Starting with Bark At the Moon, and finishing with Badlands it's all beautiful! Be honest it will show threw! I'm so happy to see you playing guitar again!!! Peace brother!!!!
Holy shit people, the guy had an off night. He knew it, look at his reaction. He is still a legend and still amazing. He wrote the damn song not you people criticizing him for being off one night in his life. I would rather him have an off night and launch a comeback, then be afraid to come back. Let Ozzy and his consistently shit voice go hide and take his wife with him.
Using video camera mic made it sound this way. Just like calling from a cell phone at a concert... it sound like crap no matter who's playing. Recorded straight from the mixer would sound better. He's 57, wrote Bark at the Moon and can still play Bark at the Moon.... pretty amazing.
I bought Red Dragon Cartel without listening to it and I wasn't disappointed...what I do feel bad about it is his struggles with the vocalist and the band in general....tons of critical comments from people who were actually at the concerts.... I'm a huge Jake E Lee fan: Ozzy fucked up
I would like to see him get his act together. Not many in his field get such respect and a following that is cult like. He was under rated but loved by so many. Hated to see him get low for so long. I sure hope he can get off the booze and other drugs and deserve this second chance. Only saying this out of admiration and concern.
He played it note for note. Do you really think the audio coming thru your little computer is a fair representation . I saw jimmy page play back n the nineties talk about sounding bad and looking bad.But he pulled his shit togeather. Give the guy a chance.
I agree. Every performance I've seen of hime lately has been pretty bad. Just so everyone "gets it", a cell phone recording doesn't add bad notes or a shitty singer to a performance. It is what it is.
He's wasted and just jamming. If you watch the band perform songs from the album Jake plays nearly as good as he did back in the 80's. He's sick and tired of playing a song that he doesn't even get credit for writing and that's all anyone expects him to play. I don't blame him for getting plastered when he's expected to play it.
Sounds like the old Jake is back to me... suck it to all you who questioned the mighty Jake E. Lee.. Red Dragon Cartel - "Rumblin Train" 3-5-14 5:06 and forward is vintage Jake
"Bigots" ! Jake is a true master with his instrument. The thing is : "he's human" ; most of the time playing over the top, but sometimes not. And it is sorrowful to see how "hard-liners" a lot of you are here. Music ; particularly live music ; is... a living thing. That's what makes it so good to go to live shows. Long live Jake. Long live Red Dragon Cartel.
I agree 1000000000% why cant people understand it is live! and the comment about why dont Jake have a whammy on his sig Charvel? That is Jake's style and look! I like the way how he bends he neck... geesh people....lol
Jessy Harr,You gotta remember, this is a live recording on amateur recording eqpt so its never gonna be high quality.I bet if you were at that gig,the sound wasn,t far away.Jakes out doing his thing and I for one am happy to see him play.He has been one of my favourite players of all time.unique
Never heard of Jake e Lee. But i`m a fan from now on! The old stuff but this is great too. Sort of a comeback?.. Anyway, i love his chops and raw style not too polished. .Legend.
why are you guys so harsh on here? I didn't think it sounded that bad at all.... This is a bootleg recording inside of a club so it's not going to sound like a record. Like all guitar players, he clinked a few times but for the most part I thought it sounded good.
As a working musician, I can tell you that events like this, there’s usually a lot of waiting and waiting around. Drinks always around. He’s drunk. Been there a billion times. Just remember, before being too critical, nobody’s being critical of you. He’s the star
The guy played for peanuts with ozzy and smoked the stage with badlands so in your neck if you think this guy doesn’t deserve props .
One of the most memorable guitar riffs in HISTORY!!! GO JAKE!!!
I don't care about the sound quality, I loved this!!!! Go on Jake!

Hello Mr.Jack E Lee from Greece!!!My guitar hero.Great Player and Great Personality!!!God bless you!!!
So, glad he's back!
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful video!
Love it and so glad you are back !

It's like you can't win either way. Yes, I would've loved a third studio album from Randy, but Jake is underrated.
He still has the sweetest vibrato around! Gigging again will cut his chops back into shape too.
Jake is still incredible. Time will take a toll on all of us. I saw him a few times in the 80s he was awesome. Don't count him out. Jake wrote most of that album and Ozzy took a lot of the credit. I agree. His tone sounds bad. The guitar apparently is in tune. He still has his chops. But he's back! Stay strong Jake!

saw him play on 'that metal show' ... with all due respect to him....he struggled there as well
Jake will always be amazing that makes a smile with true talent
he suffers from AFS...... ace frehley syndrome....sad....i saw him with ozzy back in the 80's in seattle..and he was on point and just played his heart out...
Use the force Jake, use the SG Jr.
this sounds much better but maybe only because guitar muffs the vocals. glad ur back jake
Love This Beautiful Soul ❤️ Jake E Freaking LEE ❤️ From Mr Perkins in Sunny Tallahassee Florida
welcome back Jake
Jake is the only guy at NAMM without a tuner
Yeah..... wow. You would think Boss or TC Electronic would have lent him one. Being out of tune really throws this off.
miamigroove I laughed hard at this comment!😂
Greatest guitarist
I was at this show and considering the way Jake had fight that guitar to try and keep it in tune he played pretty well.
we love you Jake!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, that's what I said.
Soul Finger Doesn't seem like that
WTF??? Jake is one of my heroes. He is capable of so much more. Jake E. Lee guitar solo (the greatest)

I'm still going to see him when he plays here in the Detroit area this June. \m/
キレがコクに変わっても・・・シーンを引っ張ってほしい!!いやこうして復帰してくれた事が嬉し過ぎる♬
Just because someone becomes older doesn't mean he's not giving it his all! We can talk about Ozzy forgetting lyrics!!!!
With Ozzy Osbourne[edit]
With the passing of legendary guitarist Randy Rhoads in March of 1982 during the Diary of a Madman Tour, Brad Gillis was asked to step in and replace Bernie Torme to finish the tour.
Every band would sound crappy with this recording with the one mic in front of an amp.
well I can recognize a drunk person as easy as everybody and jake is drunk off his ass on this one
Schuriken
Imo, if this wasn't recorded with someone's telephone, in front of his speaker, you wouldn't be looking for reason's why it sounds bad.
Schuriken
Insight into sound recording.
Rock on
Just because you get older doesn't mean you don't give it your all. We can talk about Ozzy forgetting lyrics.
Great guitarist and makes the sound.
Yeah!!!
I love Jake, but this sounds terrible!
THROUGH AN IpHONE. iF YOU SOUND HALF AS GOOD WHICH iI DOUBT.
@MAGA 2020 hahaha hahaha hahaha hahaha hahaha
so fuckn glad jake is back!!!!
Sweet \m/
Using video camera mic made it sound this way. Just like calling from a cell phone at a concert... it sound like crap no matter who's playing.
Recorded straight from the mixer would sound better.
He's 57, wrote Bark at the Moon and can still play Bark at the Moon.... pretty amazing.
I bought Red Dragon Cartel without listening to it and I wasn't disappointed...what I do feel bad about it is his struggles with the vocalist and the band in general....tons of critical comments from people who were actually at the concerts.... I'm a huge Jake E Lee fan: Ozzy fucked up
You know people who were great and have gotten older, that doesn't mean they're not giving their all Mr.Burk. Who are you where's your video?
GRANDE JAKE,UN GRANDE ENTRE LOS GRANDES,MAESTRO
I would like to see him get his act together. Not many in his field get such respect and a following that is cult like. He was under rated but loved by so many. Hated to see him get low for so long. I sure hope he can get off the booze and other drugs and deserve this second chance. Only saying this out of admiration and concern.
He was not too thrilled with the guitar..that is for sure.
Jake kills!!!!
He played it note for note. Do you really think the audio coming thru your little computer is a fair representation . I saw jimmy page play back n the nineties talk about sounding bad and looking bad.But he pulled his shit togeather. Give the guy a chance.
Gotta be honest....he's pretty rusty. Love seeing him back playing again, though.
I agree. Every performance I've seen of hime lately has been pretty bad. Just so everyone "gets it", a cell phone recording doesn't add bad notes or a shitty singer to a performance. It is what it is.
I don't think that he even knows what he's doing after 6:02.Totally senseless.
I agree... it almost seems like one of those joke "shreds" videos. It made me shudder.
Not to mention those fucking "Pearl" guitars that Charvel made for him don't stay in tune at all, I've played them.
It's just a bad recording - he played the solo note for note.
ooooooohhhhhh that soloooooooooo yeaaaaaaaa!
The singer is great but either the mix is crap or the $100 video camera is
in front of Jakes blistering loud amp.
He's using the right amp thats for sure ............GW
Sounds like the old Jake is back to me... suck it to all you who questioned the mighty Jake E. Lee.. Red Dragon Cartel - "Rumblin Train" 3-5-14 5:06 and forward is vintage Jake
I love Jake !!! Badlands and Ozzy forever
Jake, you wrote one of the baddest ass songs in metal history.... jeeeez bro please come prepared ! Still luv ya anyway ok , 'nuff said.
Sean Silas Thanks Sean ! A least some "normal" people out there... Take care.
Was so hopeful for this but it's inconsistent throughout.
AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁
Jake is past his sell by date...shocking performance :-(
Never heard of Jake e Lee. But i`m a fan from now on! The old stuff but this is great too. Sort of a comeback?.. Anyway, i love his chops and raw style not too polished. .Legend.
good guy, reminds of srv, real and not fake.
Gratuitous good grief hold my beer guitar solo, sheese
love jake
How did this singer get this gig?
why are you guys so harsh on here? I didn't think it sounded that bad at all.... This is a bootleg recording inside of a club so it's not going to sound like a record. Like all guitar players, he clinked a few times but for the most part I thought it sounded good.
OUCH........PLEASE.....
Need to turn the mic up.
Well I made it 2:35 before I couldn't take anymore. I've seen high school talent shows pull off this song better.
