His strategy of using preventable disease to diminish the civilian population was publicly endorsed by Smotrich - permanent member of the Israeli War Cabinet until it was dissolved by Netanyahu.

Comparing to the Holocaust is not helpful. It is more akin to Armenian, Bosnian, Rwandan genocides. Context is not rounding up domestic civilians and thowing them into death camps, but instead a military campaign aiming at removing a hostile population.

There are 5.5 million Palestinians excluding Israeli arabs. The number of actual accounted for deaths in Gaza has been corrected by UN agencies to about 24,000. This includes Hamas militants who have been killed in combat with the IDF, estimated to be 16,000. So in fact even if we treble 8000 innocent deaths that is under half percent (0.5% ) of the Palestinians, not 10%. When they danced on the roofs on 7 October and handed out candies they had their last good day and are paying for Hamas starting the war and sacrificing them to keep Hamas in power. Hamas is to blame and the Palestinaian Authority is complicit.

Watching this genocide, I’ve often wondered why no one was counting deaths that happened after initial wounds happened. Things like infection snd malnourishment that kill later. That number is counting indirect deaths that are possibly counted years into the future, but could be drawn back as an effect of the war. The article did not state that there are currently 186,000 dead. It said that years in the future, that many deaths might be attributable to the war. By the way, the article says that it is "plausible", it didn't even state it was likely. You are misrepresenting the article and when you put text up on the screen, you left out information that made what I am saying clear. You are doing the same thing as the MSM here. I encourage everyone to read that article themselves. They are not showing it for what it is.

I agree that the current death toll is an underestimate, but the estimate in the Lancet article is literally just the current number multiplied by 5. There wasn't any deeper analysis than that. I would encourage anyone interested to read the letter which is very brief.
True that. It based its estimate on previous research that had indirect deaths during arned conflicts 3-15 times higher than direct deaths. This letter chose times 4.

A lot of international doctors say for a while now that they believe the death toll could be 4-5 times the number. And not just the indirect deaths but also that the direct deaths could be way more because almost all hospitals, who kept record are destroyed and the same goes for all other administrative departments/ ministries. In the last 3-4 months the death toll didn´t significally change which doesn´t correlate with the situation on the ground.
The Lancet publishes articles like this regularly. They published an estimate of the deaths caused by the Iraq war (650,000, plus or minus a range of error). Richard Horton, the editor, has often taken strong positions representing the medical community's views (generally against war). He was at an anti-war rally in Trafalgar Square (where he called George W. Bush a "liar"). Since the UK has a national health system, they've had editorials by doctors calling themselves "a proud socialist." The BMJ (formerly British Medical Journal) is similar. Compared to the American medical journals, they have a more international perspective, particularly regarding access to health care in the third world, demanding affordable drug prices. They've been covering Israel, the Mideast and Africa for 45 years. If you got on their weekly press list, you'd get a lot of good stories on progressive issues that are invisible in the New York Times and other major media.
Leave to breaking points to post a non peer reviewed paper that also includes “future potential deaths”. Not even from the war itself.
The letter is based on previous research on what lethal effects an arned conflict results in, so it is referencing a good indication that war results in deaths far beyond just direct violent attacks.

No where in the article does it confirm or even estimate that the CURRENT total of Palestinian deaths is on the order of 186k persons. The article is in agreement with the current totals produced by the Gaza Health Ministry of 37,396 deaths. It only goes to estimate the number of direct and indirect deaths could POSSIBLY total up to 186k (4x the number of “direct” deaths + current total deaths of 37,396). The article also states these indirect deaths could be seen MONTHS to YEARS after immediate end of the conflict.
Please fix the title and correct yourselves. I hold you all to high standard of reporting and want to see you do your best no matter the topic.
