Never saw that 1963 win but I do have Ron Bisman's book which is a very interesting read. I have also uploaded a couple of clips on Cardy about his retirement and one of his great US wins. Cheers, Ian.
Five years later, 14,607 km (9076 miles) away, Robin Dundee would again finish second to Cardigan Bay -- at Freehold Raceway, on the day Cardigan Bay became the sport's first millionaire.
1963 won all four major races at Cup meeting ,then won Auckland Trotting Cup from 78 behind, I was there as he cruised past the line Tactile tried hard
Wow,just watched it again , still the greatest if all time, loved watching him, remember he won all 4 open class races at that meeting in 1963
Watched this again today as his 1963 Auckland Cup victory was tonight 59 years ago ,beat the mighty Tactile,Cardy started 78 yards behind ,incredible
Great days of pacing for sure.
Fantastic keep watching this, great pacers in this field
after 60 odd years the guy still sends a shiver up the spine. He beat the greatest and was the greatest
Absolute legend.
Dave Clarkson ,what a commentator, this was an extremely good field of pacers
No really. Robin Dundee was a champ but the rest, not so much. But Cardy the best we have ever seen.
Watched him win 1963 Auckland Trotting Cup from back mark of 78 yards, greatest pacer of all time

My grandfather TW Allcock was owner, trainer, driver of Oreti on that day…….Went too early & too fast in the back straight…..
I'm still watching the greatest event of the NZ CUP ever, best field
Oh dear watched it again ,the greatest pacer of all time, sorry but it is what it is
Wow watched it again, still say it was the greatest NZ CUP field ,but Cardigan Bay what champion,I'm one eyed of course

geez, halfway through the race the announcer says " they have a mile and 3 furlongs to go " !! how long was this freakin' race ?!
61 years ago today…
As good as there has ever been . Made 4 runs to win the Inter in Adelaide
Footage of the 1963 Auckland trotting cup would be good. If anyone can post I would be grateful. Cardys run in this race is un believable.
Cardigin bay
Go go gooòo
Best this country has produced. Maybe Niatross.
Awsome I love a jug and bet
Saw him win 1963 Auckland cup from 78 yards behind, what a horse, not even bettered in this day and age,Cardy the King ,John Mauchline
Todays commentators are way better now at calling the races.
Reg Clapp and Reon Murtha were very outstanding race callers.
Totally agree prefer the earlier callers.
Terrible commentator.....never liked him back in the day and seeing this proves it.
He is better than Matt Cross
