  • It took 16 videos to cover the picture plane, horizon line, eye level, center of vision, vanishing point, cone of vision, station point, measuring line, measuring point. This is why perspective drawing is difficult. You must understand all of the above (see the previous 16 videos) to draw a square, and understand why it is a square.

Thanks for the reminder. I haven’t drawn in perspective for decades.
In the ‘60s I took a course in it. The teacher said there was no text book, but she knew all the latest and forgotten techniques. Rumor had it she had written one herself, soon to be published, for which we had to save our money.
Anyway, I loved how sensible and elegant the methods, and remember drawing a truck with everything…tires, tire treads, street, shop windows and shoppers…in perspective. The other kids always lined up at my door for help.
One day, I visited my much older brother who was studying architecture at Harvard. I went along to his first class just for fun. The prof, showing the students simple perspective (floor tiles) with a vanishing point, said that they had to eyeball the increments of decreasing depth and that there was no other way to ascertain them (!) I whispered to my brother that actually there was. He immediately spoke up… “My little sister here knows how!”
Thus it was that once, long long ago, in the days of blackboards, yet! I, who barely finished high school, taught a class to graduate students at Harvard. I’m sure I didn’t do half as good a job as you, though.

This is the best presentation on perspective on TH-cam. Every other one I’ve found on drawing squares in perspective relies on first drawing an ellipse. So I have to struggle with free-handing an ellipse or go out and buy a set of ellipse guides. This is much simpler and far superior. Thank you!

I have been seeking a place to learn perspective drawing so I can draw scaled 3D furniture sketches and this is it! Well worth it to watch the preceeding videos as a beginner.

    Hello Sir
I am a student studying perspective drawing. I have been studying with the book "The Complete Guide to Perspective Drawing" and happened to come across your TH-cam channel while searching online. Thanks to your channel, I found it much easier to understand the concepts with your explanations compared to just reading the book.😄 I apologize for the sudden question, but I have one that I would like to ask you.
I have heard that before drawing with perspective, I should create a basic diagram first (as you explained in one of your videos). When drawing on paper, can I decide which part to draw? For example, if I want the vanishing point in a one-point perspective diagram to be a bit more to the right, or if I want to move the horizon line up or down, should I adjust the diagram on the paper accordingly?

Yes, as long as the diagram is set up properly you can place it anywhere on the page.

Excellent videos! This helps me understand what I’ve been reading in Craig Atterbery’s book (complete guide to be perspective drawing). Thank you! 🎉

Great! I was hoping these videos would be a good companion to the book.
