      Taken with dinosaurs

    • @superzilla784
      @superzilla784 2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

The first 10 minutes of the movie were pretty good. dinosaurs are loose in our world, and there is a pool on what to do. should we rebuild the park and send them all there, build or new sanctuary, or kill all of them on sight. killing them was the highest voted poll. that should have been the movie. the characters racing against the clock to capture as many dinosaurs as possible before they were all shot while trying to convince everyone that they are just animals, but that becomes harder and harder with dinosaur attacks increasing to the point where Blue invades someone's house in search for food and the residents are badly harmed, further reinforcing the belief that they must all be destroyed. the larger predators are also creating chaos at the Zoos because it's free food just waiting to be eaten. national parks are also suffering. bears, mooses and elks are being forced out because the dinosaurs are claiming the areas as their territory. a mama bear is no match for a pissed off triceratops herd.
This movie didn't need a villain. the fact that everyone wants the dinosaurs to all be killed because of them taking over and alot of people are getting hurt is reason enough to kick off the plot. that was all the promos to the movie! why do the promos have more story potential than the actual movie?!

I like to headcanon that just like in the book, Isla Nublar gets later bombarded to kingdom come to kill anything living there. "REEEEEEE DINOZAURS ARE LIVING ANIMALS!!!" Bruh, they're unpredictable freaks of science that can mutate and reproduce even when they weren't supposed to, what assures us they can't adapt and survive in the wild without needing human caretakers?
But most importantly, I'd just blow it up to oblivion because I want to PREVENT greedy stupid mustache twirling dumbasses from going to the island and capturing dinosaurs and taking them god knows where and maybe accidentally releasing them onto mainland and massively fuck up the ecosystem because again, they're unpredictable lab monsters.
The entirety of JP was a huge mistake and it has to be destroyed so that it doesn't get in the wrong hands.

I love the concept of Jurassic World 1, even though I think the trilogy ultimately abandoned it and are now flaying its corpse: thirty years later they open the park, and dinosaur carnage happens in a park that was not only successful, but packed with people. It was the perfect way to up the stakes.
I don't think I'll ever forgive the movie for wasting the opportunity to roll with the idea of the park being full of helpless people. It could have been a real disaster movie, but instead we got one half decent scene (the pterodactyl things grabbing guests) and then all the people got evacuated offscreen or something. Why have the park be open at all if they were going to do that? Seeing the direction of the sequels, I assume its because they knew they were aiming these movies at a younger audience, and you can't have a total bloodbath happen in a movie that's supposed to jumpstart a franchise for small kids, but it's still disappointing as somebody who enjoyed JP1 as a child even though it was a bit on the intense side.

You know he saw what other's had done and he took the next step, he didn't earn the fandom himself so he doesn't take any responsibility for it, he stood on shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as massive as he could, and before you knew what you had, he pitched, it slapped it on social media, and now he sells it, sells it .

I will never in my lifetime forget the terror I felt for that little boy & girl as they were stuck in an overturned glass topped truck as T-Rex ‘played with his food ‘ .. the tension , the puddle of water as the pounding of T-Rex footsteps approached.. the look on the kids faces as the sound got closer .. then when t-Rex puts his jaws through the roof (the screaming )and the kids kick their feet up to stop him from tearing their tiny bodies into bite size pieces .. That was raw, reality based terror ! I was that kid , I felt I was in that truck ! That’s brilliant art! That’s filmmaking excellence

There is such a build-up to that moment. Not much really happens up until that point, but the movie is captivating in its delivery, and you see all the little things, and you know, it is going to add up to one insane moment. That movie is a masterpiece. It's like Marvel and how they built up Infinity War and Endgame. These new Jurassic Park movies didn't build up anything. There's nothing, no payoff. THey are just trying to coast on the success of the first one. But they are so devoid of what made the first one good. It wasn't just "dinosaurs attack".
I watched Dan Murrell's review as well, and he said it best. The people making Jurassic Park need to go back and study how to make a solid movie about Dinosaurs and humans interacting/survival

I've said it before and I'll say it again, but the Jurassic Park/World franchise would work far better for video games from this point forward. Video games have surpassed the movie & TV industries in terms of popularity and monetary value anyway.
There's so much they could do in the realm of gaming: a classic survival horror akin to Dino Crisis, an open world game, more park builders, the return of Warpath as a fighting game, an FPs shooter akin to the arcade games, a traditional hunting game akin to Call of The Wild, a safari game where you go around researching and photographing dinosaurs, a pet collector & battle simulator for PC and consoles, a creature sim where you actually play and survive as the dinosaurs themselves like that of The Isle, and more.
Yes, the franchise no longer has a future in TV in movies - there isn't much they could left they can do story-wise anyway- but it could have a very promising future for itself in the form of games.... Too bad upper management at Universal is idiotic.

It’s facing the same issue as the Star Wars sequels did, but exacerbated. The first movie in the trilogy has an idea (the idea being almost the same thing as the original movie) and it does it pretty well. Then issues come around with production and where they want the series to go, leading to issues behind the scenes. Too many cooks in the kitchen, so to say. I'd contrast this movie to a movie like _Everest._ With _Everest_ unless you knew about the 96 disaster, you'd never know who would live. And even then if you do know, there's still natural tension there-conflicting personalities, too many people on the mountain it just writes itself. It's an ensemble cast, but some of those big name actors do die because you are climbing up to the cruising altitude of a SEVEN FORTY SEVEN we should not BE up there. So there's tension just innately there, it's never forced it's just you vs a big fck off mountain, and the mountain WILL have the last say. In a movie like this it's just the main vs CGI dinosaurs that you know aren't there. So there goes tension...also.....It's Chris Pratt no way they'd kill him off.

It is totally explained away by “it’s been four years, and most of the dinosaurs have been captured by BioSyn and the ones that remain avoid human areas.” It is so lame… the film is a heist movie. Very Fast and Furious. The original cast spends their time breaking into a BioSyn lab to collect a LOCUST sample (not even dinosaur related), Jeff Goldblum is really only in the movie for the final act, and Chris Pratt and co are trying to rescue the girl from the last movie from BioSyn… dinosaurs just happen to be there, but after they leave Malta the movie might as well have taken place on Isla Nublar, because it was so isolated from the rest of the world for the rest of the film 🙄

JP3 is my third favourite Jurassic Park movie behind JP 1 (obviously) and Jurassic World (which was at least very competent as a standalone movie, even if it kicked off a terrible trilogy). In hindsight, I respect its commitment to being a rather basic summer action blockbuster; bring Sam Neill back, give them a plot to rescue a kid, crash a plane full of forgettable mercenary redshirts and boom, you have a movie. No weird environmental subplots like in Lost World, or shoehorned in city scenes like Lost World (and Fallen Kingdom, tbh) - in my opinion a Jurassic movie stops being a Jurassic movie the second you see the dinosaurs in civilization. The park works because it's man's attempt to make a foothold in nature. The concept doesn't work the other way around, with nature trying to have a foothold in the city.

I guess they're looking at dollar signs now since this is a massive money making machines for Universal. The thing is, audiences nowadays expected some sort of mindless dinosaurs action entertainment instead of a good story. Jurassic World movies is basically you watch it by just turning your brain off, that's why the writing felt so disposable. Filmmakers thinking like "who cares about story, let's just give the audience some mindless action scenes that would make them not care about a cohesive story" atleast that's my perspective towards blockbusters nowadays

Jeremy, I'm glad you put your finger on it with your "it's a kidnapping movie after something catastrophic happened" comment. I didn't really pick up on that.
For me, my main gripe was there is SUCH A GREAT PREMISE in the fact that they're are dinosaurs living in our world. The end scene in Fallen Kingdom is an absolute masterpiece in itself but the movie NEVER EXPANDS ON IT 😭
The ecosystem would be fundamentally broken and humans would inevitably have to kill off the dinosaurs (or live underground or in the air or something). But instead the plot focuses on 2 things that are inconsequential and were just drivers to get the band back together (locusts anddddd a kidnapping). Both I didnt think were necessary to bring the old and the new cast together (total collapse of our ecosystem and reworking of the food chain should do that anyway).
I've never been so disappointed in a movie squandering such a great concept before. It was all tee'd up, and you struck out 3 times 😭😭😭

    Possible Spoiler
I wanted to see the "Jurassic World", humanity in constant danger from a dinosaur attack and the first thing the movie tells me is that the dinos already had been captured between films.
I wanted the dinosaurs to eat as many humans as they came across and anyone would beat them running and I think of the 3 or 4 deaths some occur off camera.
I couldn't care less about the subplot to bring the original characters back, and in fact it has nothing to do with them or dinosaurs or anything.
There are a lot of new dinosaurs yes, but they appear for 2 seconds. The movie continues with "this is the good dino, this is the bad dino".
Every 2 seconds the movie introduces a new character whose name is not even known, too many people and they are not even to be eaten.
Anyway, I think the film has one or two good shots and the scenes in Malta. The rest forgettable.

The biggest issues I had was nothing really happened, by that I meant there was barley a skeleton of a plot. It’s was literally “event leads to event” and that was it. They focused so much on nostalgia that nothing else really seemed to matter in any way. Even in the “climax” of the movie, The characters are in no danger as a pointless dinosaur fight happens. Seriously, they say “this isn’t about us” as the two apes predators square up. There is no tension whatsoever. I’ve been watching this series for nearly 20 years and it was a foundation of my childhood and life in general, and I’m really sad to see it fizzle out like this. There was more I can get into, but that would both take a while and start to get into some of the more gritty stuff such as paleo problems and nit picky issues with the plot. Though I will say the practical effects looked good. All in all, though I want to give it a 5/10, but after taking off the nostalgia glasses I’d give it a 3.5/10

What I found most painful were all of the nods to the original movie, it totally destroyed the immersion. The dialogue and score were incredibly bland and weak too. We don’t need to see so many cheesy moments that play on nostalgia, it needs to stop, we don’t need reminding of it, we need something new and fresh for our beloved characters. They glossed over romance and that was a huge miss for me, I’d have loved to see more back and forth between Alan and Ellie, and see a bit more heart in the film overall. The pilot chick was cheese overload, perfect hair throughout and one liners, such a bad ass yet I still don’t fully understand why she would be so invested given her morally shady background. This whole movie reminded me of the recent Matrix reboot, forgettable and full of nostalgic trips. The chase scene in Malta with the raptors was the highlight for me, however the raptors moved at speeds that just defied any realism or gravity. Oh and Ian’s line when he is fired “oh but it was such a cushy job” was top shelf.

This could have worked if they didn't fuck up the original story. In the book the problem with the park isn't really the dinosaurs, it's that the park itself is an absolute mess and so little care was put in to making it safe.
If they'd done the first movie more in line with that tone you could reason that they'd build another because "This time it's actually safe!" but with Jurassic Park they made dinosaurs flat out seem like a bad idea.

They shouldn't have promoted it as "the last of the series" because that took everyone's expectations straight into the stratosphere.
The movie itself wasn't bad, or even boring.
Most of us just expected way more.
I felt the same dissapointment with Avengers: Endgame.
A few good scenes aren't enough to wash away that gnawing hunger for more.
Idk why, but for some reason I was expecting this massive epic dinosaurs vs man vs dinosaur kind of movie with epic battles and shit.
I just think we've all been spoiled too much when it comes to movies these past 15 years. To the point where everything now feels ... Mediocre.

    • @J1283-s1k
      @J1283-s1k 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah man Endgame sucked. Phenomenal first 3rd, fun but silly 2nd 3rd and utterly lacking, contrived, fan-service over any in universe logic, logical character arcs shot out of the window, the same 'bigger is better' mentality as usual and utter jumps in tonal consistency (like when 2014 Gamora kicks a tearful Quill in the balls a few times and laughs at him as a potential partner - which is tone deaf enough in itself - but does so during the final battle of the final movie of a 20 odd movie culmination and this is treated as funny and silly when it's just so damn out of place and ruins the stakes). Trash movie, Infinity War was 50 times better and, for me, unlike most who feel post Endgame Marvel sucks, I felt like that started in Endgame. My frustration at that movie was palatable in the cinema (you can imagine with that silly, stupid Hulk dabbing while eating an omelette scene in an already 3 hour movie at the expense of actually just seeing Bruce and Hulk come together). Truly, my disappointment was immeasurable. And my day was ruined.

This. The main reason this film, and the previous entries in the saga are heavily criticised is because they don’t live up the expectations set by the original movie. If you look at these Jurassic movies without comparing them to the original, they’re not bad, in fact they are good. I liked fallen kingdom, and I liked dominion more. We as an audience need to stop raising the bar so high that we will inevitably be disappointed
