From the current state, the LRT is a white elephant. It doesn’t serve resident of Macau as most station are located only at casinos, airports and the border checkpoints and 80% of the residents live in the Macau peninsula. Few people are going to transfer to the LRT when there is a direct bus and the bridge crossing is still under construction! A remember the press saying the LRT feels like a shuttle between casinos. The casinos incentive is to transport you directly to its casino and gamble so obviously they would do it for free and hope you bypass the LRT all together. Few tourist will take it because if you go to Macau to gamble, you would take the free shuttle buses or site see where the LRT doesn’t connect to the cities attractions. Resident aren’t going to take it because it doesn’t take them to a there destination.
Nice video! I am just wondering, if this is a fully automatic grade separated system, doesnt that make it a metro? Light rail to me would be more like a tram that runs on the street. This looks similar to the VAL system used in the metros in Lille, Marseille and Rennes in France
hey, thanks for the comment I can it really depends how you define it, it is essentially a metro system but because of its lower capacity and shorter trainsets, it is light rail
Great video on a not so talked about city transit wise. Learned something new.
thanks for your support
We’re now in 2024 and I can report that we got one more station operational and the LRT is now linked with the Macau peninsula 🎉

The fiasco around its construction is not talked about enough, nor the actual problems of the alignment.
Macau doesn’t get enough attention!
Macau only got its airport 25 years ago!
The Macau airport might be just as unknown as their LRT line 😂
