I think these would be much simpler to build as a diy if the rotor was magnetically coupled to the knob. I have no idea how a home hobbiest could make an envelope with a rotatable passthrough.

I am feeling a little psychotic... thanks for the info :)

new sub here love your channel..can that cap keep turning or does it have a stop? Im looking for a variable tuning cap for a project im doing but I want one that can turn 360 deg, without stoping, if you now a model that can let me know please, this one would look so cool tho I want to use a servo motor with it..

Thanks for the sub and the kind words. No, unfortunately the vacuum capacitor has end stops. It sounds like you may be building a remote tuning magnetic loop antenna... an air spaced butterfly cap is what most people use I believe. The two air spaced capacitors in the ATU shown at the start of the video both go round and round without stopping. Ebay or a hamfest would be your best bet. I know what you mean though, the vacuum caps do look good.

Do some of them *not* have stops? I'm trying to sort out whether the used Jennings UCS 300 I've picked up is mechanically sound. Seems like it spins and spins.

VK6CS I'm thinking of making a vacuum butteryfly cap, just putting a butterfly cap inside a seal plexiglass box and vacuuming out the air.. using either an electric motor to turn it in the vacuum or using oiled gaskets to turn it from outside the box.

Where did the word "PUFF" come into play when people are describing "Picofarads" in capacitance???.

@@vk6cs456 aaahhhh...thank you, I thought it was some sort of slang in today's day and age.

@@thevacuumtubejunky9774 I heard it at the radio club once, misinterpreted it, and often said a "120 fluff" capacitor ;)

A very disorganized, rambling video. I had to move on after three minutes.
