Hmm, not sure if I would call illegaly seizing one of the greatest treasures of the one Holy Apostolic Church and giving it to Vatican affiliated schismatics and illegalising the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (the overwhelming majority of Orthodox churches are under the jurisdiction of the UOC) counts as religious freedom. 🤔

I guess it's Kiev Patriarchate then. Not the most elegant solution, but as Greek-Catholic churches are not centralized there really isn't much to say. It definitely isn't biggest schism christianity has endured.

Here, in America, many celebrate Christmas on December 25th. It is tradition. Why do people observe this day? For evangelicals, they claim Jesus birth in this day though there is no historical evidence.. the same with others who chose their dates. It is random or based on tradition of men...not the truth of scripture.
Nevertheless, Im so happy that Ukraine is redeeming her identity out of the hands of russia.

The Orthodox Church remains in the Julian calendar. The West adopted the Gregorian calendar several centuries ago and key dates in common have gradually spread apart between the two calendars. I don’t know if that’s the full explanation or not. Orthodox Easter happens one week after western Easter, because figuring that one depends on the Vernal Equinox (which doesn’t care about your calendar) and the first full moon which occurs after it.

Volodymyr I became the ruler of Kievan Rus’ after overthrowing his brother Yaropolk in 978.
Volodymyr I formed an alliance with Basil II of the Byzantine Empire and married his sister Anna in 988.
After his marriage Volodymyr I officially changed the state religion to Orthodox Christianity and destroyed pagan temples and icons.
He built the first stone church in Kiev in 989, called the Church of the Tithes. It was the Russian's that split the Orthodox church
