  • Ever had too many choices? If you like industrial, drum & base, grime and techno, Noise Engineering will make you very happy. if you don't, they'll make you happy anyway. So which 'iteritas' oscillator will best suit your needs? Hard to tell, because they all have a light & dark side. They can all reap havoc and create beauty. In this tour I'll show some perspectives, but the sonic range of these oscillators is insane so I can't cover all of them. Please note that I am not sponsored, but I am a big fan of the brand and these little machines suit my favorite styles very well. Can't make up your mind? If you love drum & bass, get a Basimilus. And you can't go wrong on the Percido's.
    00:00 Ataraxic Iteritas

    Fantastic video. Please make more of these. Another line up etc.

    Thank you thank you thank you for showing off some of the ACTUALLY softer sides of Cursus Iteritas. It's constantly touted as the most mild oscillator in the lineup, but anyone who demos it still makes wild, aggressive tones with it. I was finally able to find a sound demo that sold me on it.

      I've noticed this too. I love the Manis and despite being able to get quite harsh it can also get super clean due to its built in filter. I used to think NE oscillators were only for super aggressive sounds but now I think they're one of the most flexible oscillators available.

      Thanks! Yes I imagined a square wave looks the same as a long stream of gates or triggers (depending on pulse width) and it worked like a charm. So a square with PWM could even be more fun. Haven't tried yet because I don't have a PWM capable oscillator. But you'll have to pitch the square wave, instead of the BIA.

    Wonderful video. Thanks so much for posting it. I have been laboring mightily over which module(s) to buy. They are a bit on the pricey side and I didn't want to commit to buying more than one. I ended up going for Loquelic Iteritas Percido. Yes, it is the most expensive of the lot but it also strikes me as the most flexible and feature rich oscillator of the lot. It will take up the last 20hp that I have available in my rack.

    • @CinematicLaboratory
      @CinematicLaboratory  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So glad to hear you went for the Loquelic Iteritas Percido, I honestly believe it's the best choice when your budget is limited to one. I hope you love it as much as I do. It's so brutal when needed, and really pretty too.

  • @dangayle
    @dangayle 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the LIP, man you’re not kidding about taming it. I had it doing a great kick drum, probably better sounding than my BIA to be honest, and then I twisted some knobs and it was gone. Need to start taking photos of patch settings.

  • @MrStanley85
    @MrStanley85 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was a very nice demo of the lineup, now I think even more on saving up some space... only 20hp space left in the drumcase - the BIA together with the new Desmodus Versio has already reserved this space ...

    • @CinematicLaboratory
      @CinematicLaboratory  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    totally agree with the previous poster - Shoyei. I'm new to modular, CL could you talk a bit more about where you took the signal after coming out of the Cursus Iteritas? I'm guessing there is a verb and an ADSR in there somewhere??

  • @jthek2000
    @jthek2000 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I actually find the LIP quite daunting to tune sometimes, but quite beautiful when I do. If it’s heavy modulation you like to feed it, the more noisy it becomes like a thief in the night.

    • @CinematicLaboratory
      @CinematicLaboratory  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed, it's a complex oscillator so when both oscillators can run free (no master) with a bit of FM it can get out of hand really fast. But I love the coarse/fine push button design a lot, and it's much easier to tune than - let's say - a DPO and when the VCO is in fine tuning you can't really knock it off key too much.

  • @mpingo91

    Could you, please, describe in details the patch with Loquelic Iteritas starting @7:00? How this sequence was done? It sounds awesome (or maybe I'm too newbie)! How did you do that the steps aren't mechanically equal, they sound like someone's just improvising on the keyboard, with all those legatos etc?

    • @CinematicLaboratory
      @CinematicLaboratory  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's the combo of 1) WMD Arpitecht who is playing a scale with random timing and selected notes (it's a simple minor scale) and octaves 2) the Loquelic obviously and 3) the combo of Stages - the envelope - and the LxD low pass gate (LPG) from makenoise. LPG's have a built in filter and a natural gate response from a special optoresistor that slowly decays. The WMD Arpitecht is like a random keyboard player. Just set a scale, feed some random gates here and there and it shines. Totally awesome module. Here's the full video of that session: th-cam.com/video/b3l9fopZPXM/w-d-xo.html

    I had loquelic before and was a bit disappointed that the sync input wasn't really tight enough to make a consistent kick. Can the percido version get around this with its dedicated trigger input? Would get it again if I could use it to make drums.

    • @CinematicLaboratory
      @CinematicLaboratory  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The percido has a built in AD envelope that can affect everything, including pitch, so you could easily create all kinds of percussion and complex kicks. It takes some time to figure it out, but it can make millions of sounds.

    • @sumocloud
      @sumocloud 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CinematicLaboratory thanks for your reply. I realise that,and I realise that you need a pitch envelope to make a kick etc. I think the answer is that yes, the percido internal envelope can be set to sync to a waveform reset triggered by the trigger input. With the non percido, the hard sync is just not responsive enough... Since the waveform needs to start in the same place on every kick.. You need a tight waveform reset at the beginning of every drum hit. Very few digital oscillators Have a responsive enough sync input/reset input for this. BIA gets around it by having a trigger input for an internal vca and waveform reset, I am guessing percido can also do this...

    • @CinematicLaboratory
      @CinematicLaboratory  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sumocloud Yes you're right. LIP has the same behavior as BIA but three options. It has trigger mode, trigger reset mode and free running mode.
