i can't stop listening to the song , just where he needs me , what a blessing , to be needed by Him , that secures your place in heaven , just where He needs me ,
Many, many years ago (1950s) ... as a young man a few years younger than Derek, I admired him and his playing. A beautiful tone. At one time we sat on opposite ends of the Harlesden SA Band solo cornet bench. Oh, what happy memories I have of those days.
Dave Rattray As a young girl I well remember you all. My dad, Dave Hammant played second cornet in Harlesden band in the 40s through to the 80's. What wonderful memories of Harlesden, Ray Bowes and Harlesden Songsters where I developed my love of singing, I still have.
Sylvia Harkness .... How really delightful to hear from you. I have so many happy memories of those days at Harlesden. I played in the band until 1956. I left the UK for Canada in 1957 but soon after I met my now wife, Helen, I joined the United Church of Canada . I was very active with the youth. I satisfied my love for music when I joined a large local community choir, eventually singing in two other choirs. Through all this I have maintained my love for 'the Army' and it's music. In the early 2000's health issues caused me to cease my work with choirs. Now I must ask, did you go to Holland with the songsters in 1949? .... I guess I've got carried away. If you wish to write again, this 85 year old man would love to hear from you. I am in touch with Peter Strickland from time to time. Best wishes to you. I really remember your dad well ... he helped me very much when i played 2nd cornet in the senior band, a real privilege for a young teen. He was a really wonderful man.
Thank you. A blessing... Xx

Beautiful! Amazing what can be made of a simple Hawaiian melody.
Brilliant playing from a man of his age........
