I was so happy to see Chai and Rococo, been eyeing those in your collection and those are two that are high on my wishlist! I luckily found Chai and was debating on Rococo due to the price but after hearing your thoughts I’m going to go for it! One small question: is it possible to show the games in action a little longer? I tend to watch while doing chores around the house and I end up missing those nice action shots. As a newbie to the hobby I’ve discovered so many games to look for from your videos. Thanks again so much! 🙏❤️

Akropolis just won the As d'or (French version of Spiel (I don't think it is as famous)), but yes it did win in the main category which is family for everyone type of game ! I like Cockroach Poker a lot, and Oaxaca, Towers of Arkhanos, mayyybe Illumination and Rococo look like games I should check out sometime. Also, just wanted to comment to say: I LOVE Amy's colourful nails! I'm usually the only one among my friends and colleagues who uses multiple colours at once when I paint my nails. Happy to see another colour-lover, haha
In our house we've got a real love/meh with the deluxification of Rococo. We never liked the original art as we felt it was sort of muddy and dark- and so were thrilled to see how Ian O'Toole's design fixed that beautifully - the addition of the scoring track was a much needed fix - and making the player pieces much more color-blind friendly was also a great move. However, that new board is just SO massive. Bigger isn't necessarily always better - and we miss the sort of intimacy the smaller board had (gloomy as it was). Great episode - Rococo was the only game of the ten reviewed that I own - but, since you have SO MANY games, I'm certain I'll see some of my favorites covered ... eventually.
I wish we could say we were half way through 😂 but it still feels like just the tip of the iceberg. You're also so right about the size of the rococo board. It's really so unnecessarily big 😂 but I'm here for the drama of it. I do think it might be a slight barrier to why we don't get it to the table that often. Or maybe that's just because we have too many games. 🙃

Having played both Cockroach Poker, and Taco Cat, I have to completely agree with all your sentiments! It is not for everybody, but so fun when you get a good group and one or two people is super squirmy with the bluffing. Would be hilarious to see Monique play this 😇
@ThinkerThemer Not sure if you have a specific way to rank or not, but I find the ranking style very unique being technically out of 100. Do you both have a way you rank to this level? Is there criteria you use to get to this? Love the videos 👌
Yokai is one of my favorite trick-takers, but I play exclusively at 2v2 and have no interest in 3p. There is a 2p variant on BGG, designed by Sean Ross and endorsed by the publisher. While I haven't tried it, it's probably interesting (Sean makes good games) Spent stones in Akropolis actually just go away! The only way you ever gain stones is by covering quarries
I think Motor City is the deeper game by a longshot, but it's not the normal bingo-style tactical decision making often found in the genre, or their previous two games. You're given far more actions in Motor City, and far more choice in them, but getting a combo chain during a turn takes more investment strategically (the combos are all definitely still there!) So I think it's crossing some wires for anyone expecting those sheets to be endorphin autopilots. You really have to plan your strategies from turn one and pay attention to what others at the table are investing in. So it's probably also cursed with not the greatest of impressions from first plays.
Unfortunately, the kickstarter for Chai: Tea for 2 (the most recent sequel to Chai) is now stuck in some sort of weird limbo where designers Connie and Dan Kazmaier have not made any updates since October 2022. It seems increasingly possible that the games and the wonderful dice trays from that campaign will never be received. It's the only kickstarter that I've backed so far that has gone radio silent after failing to deliver. It sounds like Dan may be experiencing some challenges with his mental state. I truly hope that he is getting some help. I think I only put about US$60 into the campaign a bit under 2 years ago so I am not too badly affected but there are some very cranky people out there talking about legal recourse. As for the games on your list - I have Yokai Septet (not yet played), Cockroach Poker (played once), Akropolis (not yet played), and Rococco Deluxe (not yet played)... I think I need to move closer to you guys so some of these games I keep buying actually get played!!! Love your videos. I always find myself grinning like an idiot at how lovely you are together. Unfortunately, our recent interest rate instability and the subsequent effect it's having on house prices means it's something of a challenge. I am committed to the move, just need to time it right. You guys are very near the top of the list to bother once I get settled. Hope that's ok?! Either way, I doubt it will happen sooner than a year. The one thing I'm not looking forward to is re-routing about 80 kickstarters that have not yet been fulfilled!
I had a lot of problems with some rules that weren't clarified in Chai, so it's been sitting unplayed ever since. Maybe more rules have been clarified by now, I should break it out again
Ahh maybe we have a new printing of the rulebook but now that you mention it there were a couple of questions we had at the time that we figured out together but it would make it harder for a newer gamer to just pick it up and run with it. Oaxaca is a good little game :) I too love the combo-ness but feel it is too short. I typically play 4 rounds instead of 3 and IMO it works great!

Sorry you didn’t like Motor City. It’s my first of their 3 and I enjoyed it so much I literally have my brand new Fleet in front of me to learn.
I think expectations were just so high and we missed the fishing / raining fun (you're about to find out about the former!) 🐟🐠🎣🐡
