もうかれこれ19年くらいシンヤさん好きで当時からCDも雑誌も買ってたけどこの方本当に変わらないなぁ。全然老けないし永遠に若い。TH-camやってるの見つけた時とかテンション死ぬ程上がった。

LUNA SEAの陽気な、お喋り真矢並みですよね。普段は陰そうなキャラですが実際は京の代わりに他メンバーがMＣしてもファンはライブで喜ぶサービスですよね。なんだか新鮮ですよね。手品とかのイメージがピッタリな妖しさですよね。
dirがメジャーデビューした時、私はまだ10歳でしたが、こんなかっこいい人たちが世の中にいるのか！と衝撃を受けてそれからずっと大好きです。20代の頃はアイドルとかポップミュージックにハマったこともあるけど、やっぱりdirに戻ってくる！それくらい大好きだし、多分これから死ぬまで好きなんだろうな笑 こんなプライベートな動画が見れる日が来るとは思っていなかったので、今のネット社会に感謝してます笑

Hello, this is Shinya. This channel was originally for posting clips of videos that would be uploaded to the Shinya Channel website. While I’m still doing that, I wanted to also make videos that could be seen by more people, so I’m recording this right now.
I wanted to make an introduction-type video, so the other day I asked people in my instagram story to send in their questions. I picked the best introductory questions from those, and I’ll be answering them in this video.
Q: Why did you start drumming?
A: Those who don’t know me might not know, but I’m in a band, and I play drums. Our band is called ‘DIR EN GREY’, and we started in 1997, and had our major debut in 1999. Aside from that, in 2017 I also started the unit ‘SERAPH’ with Moa on vocals and piano. Those are my activities. Seraph is also on TH-cam, so if you’d like to, please check it out.
The reason I started drums is when I was a first-year in middle school, I wanted to join a band. I thought ‘I want to start a band’, and if I played drums, I would be able to start one with my friends. I just wanted to start a band, whether it’s drums or any other instrument, I just wanted to do it. So that’s why I started playing drums. Around October of my first year in middle school, for around 3 months there was a cheap promotion on drum sets so I bought it, and under my house there was an unused space that was soundproof, so I put my drums there and started practising.
Q: Where are you from?
I’m from Hirakata in Osaka Prefecture. Well, the hospital I was born in is in Hirakata, but the place I actually grew up in is the neighbouring area, Yawata in Kyoto Prefecture. I lived there since I was born, but after 5 years we moved back to Hirakata. After that, my family moved house around three more times, but they were all in Hirakata, and I lived there until I was 28. After that, I moved to Tokyo. I can say with confidence, I’m very much an Osakan person.
If I’m not careful, my Kansai accent will spill out by accident, so I always speak carefully to avoid that.
Q: What are your hobbies?
Well, I guess my number one hobby is solving riddles. I don’t really have a reason for wanting to solve riddles, but the moment of realisation when you’re solving them is so invigorating, and you can’t get that from anything else. I really like that, so I do riddles a lot. I got into it about 3 years ago, since Scrap’s ‘Mystery Circus’ building was built in Shinjuku. From then onwards, I really got into solving riddles. I go to about 10 public performances a month. There’s a lot of people surrounding me there who love solving riddles, but I don’t actually have many friends who are into it, so I went a long time thinking I wouldn’t be able to meet anyone who’s into this hobby as well. I like solving riddles so much that I want to try and post riddle-answering videos to this channel once a week. I’m filming them at the moment, so please look forward to them.
Q: What’s your favourite board game?
Well, I know I just talked about solving riddles being my hobby, but I also like board games just as much. I have about 300 board games in my house, and I’m getting through them one by one. My favourite game is this ‘Gokiburi Salad’ game. (TL Note: The game is called Kakerlakensalat outside of Japan) This has tomato, cauliflower, paprika, and lettuce cards. There’s four different types of vegetables, and it’s a game where you announce which one you got, but as you learn the rest of the rules, it gets a bit more complicated. I also added some different rules, which includes this metronome. As the metronome clicks, if you pull the cards to the tempo, it becomes a lot more difficult. I recommend it.
There’s also a lot of other board games that I find really fun, but I’m thinking I might play a few of them on this channel.
Q: What foods do you like?
The ones I like… well, I like spring onions. When I say spring onions, I don’t mean spring onion dishes, I just mean the actual spring onions. (TL note: scallions) I also like mushrooms. My favourite is enoki. As well as that, I like crab and seafood. Because of that, I really like sushi and similar foods. Apart from those…I like natto and Japanese Yams. Sticky foods… I say that, but I don’t like okra. I also like avocado, lettuce, ah, I like mayonnaise too. I like mayonnaise a lot. But there isn’t any in my house. I also like mapo tofu.
Q: What foods do you dislike?
I’m often asked about this, so I wrote all of the foods that I don’t like out in a memo. Firstly, daikon radish. I’ll eat grated daikon, pickled daikon, and daikon sprouts though. Any daikon apart from that is a no-go. Also, round onions. If they’re fresh, then I love them, but if they spoil at all, then it’s immediately no good. Also, carrots, burdock, peppers, eggplant, coriander, green beans, parsley, celery, pumpkin, konbu, paprika, bitter melon, mountain vegetables, bamboo shoots, perilla leaves, yuzu, and whipped cream. Also melon, watermelon, and persimmon. I hate them.
Q: What drinks do you like?
The drinks I like… well, usually I drink an iced caffe latte every day. Aside from that, royal milk tea, cola, and... that’s about it. I don’t really drink tea or water. I have a sensitive tongue, so I don’t really drink hot drinks either.
Q: Which characters do you like?
Well, this one is inducted into the hall of fame, it’s Chebrashka. The way Chebrashka moves is so cute that it completely stole my heart, so it completely took my interest from a while ago. From then on, I ended up getting closer to Chebrashka, and we held an event together, released collab goods, and we have a very good relationship. Other characters that I like are… Onigiri Chihuahua, Buu-chan the cat, and Little Ghost Q-taro. I’ve liked him since I was really young.
Q: Which clothing brands do you like?
It’s not like there are specific brands that I like, and in recent years I haven’t really had an interest in clothing. When I buy clothes, it’s not really about brands, usually I buy from people I know or my juniors’ brands.
Q: What’s your skincare routine?
Honestly, I don’t do anything. When I wash my face, I use a soap with no additives that I bought from amazon, I got four of them for about a thousand yen. That’s about it. I don’t use face lotion or anything like that. (Caption: I use it when I wear makeup) It’s just the no-additives soap. I’m usually fine like this, but it’s different from person to person, so please do what works for you.
Q: How do you stay in shape?
For this one, I also don’t really do anything… I eat what I want to, when I want to. I’m often told that I won’t eat half of my portions, but I think I do eat a bit more than the average person. I say that, but if you compare to the last 20 years I’ve gained around 10 kilograms. After all, that’s pretty normal for around 20 years.
Q: Why are you sometimes called Yamo-chan?
When I was in a band before DIR EN GREY, well, my name is Shinya, which eventually led to the nickname ‘Shinemon’. Shinemon is a character that appears in Ikkyu-san, so I thought it came from there, but as I kept being called Shinemon, it changed, I think it was Die or someone that said it, into ‘Shinyamon’. ‘Shinyamon’ ended up just becoming ‘Yamon’, which then changed into ‘Yamori’, and then we ended up with something along the lines of ‘Yamo-chan’. There are some rumours that my surname is ‘Yamamoto’ or anything that could lead to being called ‘Yamo-chan’, but all of that is fake information.
Q: What’s your favourite colour?
Well… Black is probably my favourite. I like white, especially the combination of white and gold. Also colours similar to beige, kind of like the colour of my phone case, or the colour of these cushions. I like colours like Tiffany Blue as well, and colours that are hard to describe.
Q: What’s your favourite fragrance?
I really like this ‘ROSSO NOBILE’ scent a lot. I put this one in my bathroom, and this one at the entrance of my house. I put some in a wine decanter and keep it in my living room. I also put some in this wine bottle, which I like a lot because it’s really cute. I like it so much that I also put it in this bottle and take it with me.
Q: Please tell us about some of the makeup that you use.
I brought my makeup box. For the base, I use this ‘Primavista’. For foundation, I’ve been using this ‘Chanel’ for a while, but lately I’m using this Revlon and mixing it with this Maybelline foundation. My eyeshadow is this ‘Guerlain’ palette. I bought this ‘MAC’ highlight and contour, but lately instead I’ve been using this ‘Artclass’ contour for shading. For highlighting, I’m using MAC’s ‘Skin Finish’ with it. I only bought it recently, so I haven’t really tried it out much yet. My powder is this ‘Sana Excel Clear Lucent Powder’. When I want to do lighter makeup, I use this ‘Essential Nuder Cushion’. (TL Note: Jung Saem Mool’s Essential Nuder Cushion) For concealer, I’m using this product from Instagram. I’m not really that picky about this kind of thing. For my eyebrows, I use this super-cheap product from ‘Canmake’. For eyeliner, I usually love this product from ‘Can Do’, it’s about 100 yen. Now, I use a lot of different eyeliners, but this one from ‘Can Do’ is still my favourite. It’s really easy to apply. I’m really particular about these two brushes, I always just buy the same ones again. (MAC/228s MAC/263) That’s about it… My makeup box is from Shu Uemura. I’ve been using this one for around 20-ish years now. Back when we weren’t selling much, a high-selling senior band’s members all had these Shu Uemura makeup boxes, and it kind of became a status symbol. Around that time I received this as a present from a fan. I was really happy, and so I wouldn’t forget about it at first I kept switching the latch on it, and I’ve been using it since then.
Q: Please tell us about your hair care and styling.
I usually go to the salon about once a month for recolouring. I don’t really have any particularities when it comes to shampoos or treatments. When I’m in a rush, I use a hair dryer to dry my hair, but usually I just let it air-dry naturally. When my hair is completely dry, I use this hair iron. This iron has straighteners and curlers built in, so I can use both. Usually I straighten all of my hair, then afterwards go in with the curler to create these longer parts. On the other side, I use my left hand and basically do the same in the opposite direction. Once I’ve done all of it, my hair styling is complete.
