    Wow. I don't comment often but thanks so much for this video. There was ZERO documentation provided with my gravely mower regarding the process or how the oil drain plug works. It was gold just seeing how the little orange plug fits into the yellow valve piece in your video. Mine (small orange piece) got stuck in the engine and had to be pulled out with a coat hanger. What an absolutely infuriating experience. I've wasted countless hours on this mower because of this. I just pulled the trigger on the drainzit. Thanks for this video.

    Thank you for the advice. I just purchased the Ariens Ikon XL 52 inch version of this mower with the Kohler engine. I believe its identical to your mower so this helps a ton. thank you.

      I believe it is too. Gravely bought Ariens, which is a good mower. If you happen to read my reply to Jerome you'll see I located the engine oil drain line. Much easier now. Have a good summer.

    I love my Gravely and have no problems with the 7000 series Kohler, but I wonder what the hell the engineers were thinking when they put it in their frames. You would think that they would have included the Drainzit hose or at lease engineered a better way to change the oil. I guess they figured people would take it to a dealer to do.
    BTW I did exactly the same thing you did last season. Time to change oil again. This time the Drainzit hose should make it a lot easier. Thanks for the tips.

      The problem is they weren't thinking. They depend on computers. Anyone can be an engineer with a computer program.

    We have a 2017 ZT HD 60. It is a genuine pain to change the oil. The drain plug is on the opposite side as your engine and the hydraulic line are real tight against the oil filter. I see they have improved on those issues on the newer models. Changing oil is important and it should be easy.

      Biggest complaint I have about this mower. You can barely get a wrench in there to loosed the drain plug. In my opinion, the fact Gravely included the hose to drain it shows they knew there was an issue and took the cheap/quick way out.

      @@jeromepreservation7362 Good news. I called my Gravely dealer. He said there is an oil drain hose on the same side as the filter. That was the hose I thought was hydraulic related. This will make changing the oil a breeze. Thanks for the reply.

    Is there missing video for a step? Checking oil level before starting engine and filling the filter is the process I use. The last 8oz is about what the filter will hold. Like the flex line idea.

    doesn't your oil level go down when the filter fills up?

    Would have been great if we actually see the process and not the end of process, but overall i learned. Tks

    Run your engine for a few seconds before checking your oil level. You're probably fine doing it the way you did it but you'd be surprised how much the level drops after you get the new oil circulating throughout the engine.

    Did you just remove that yellow oil adaptor or the black one that goes into the engine case? Mine leaks like a faucet!

    Where did you get the new drain tube that you installed?

    Great idea! What is the exact ID for this hose? I bought one but was too small for the threads in the drain hole. Did Gravley modify the drain hole threads to accommodate the yellow drain plug? The spec on the manual says 3/8 NPT and that is what I bought, but the yellow plug threads is slightly larger. I have a 6600 series, KT 620 Kohler.

    Would one of this cheap manual transfer Hand pump work to extract the oil on this mower? I have the XT42 ..thx

    To OPEN and start draining oil, is yellow nipple all that should turn counterclockwise? On mine the black piece it screw into also turns with the yellow.

      @jeromepreservation7362  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I never replied to this. Yes, the yellow piece is all that should be turning.

    I have the 24hp in my ZTX42. Is that oil filter the same?

    I don't see how you got the new drain hose on there. Did you remove the old tip and put the new one on? Or did you place the new hose over the old tip?

    • @jeromepreservation7362
      @jeromepreservation7362  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes you take the factory plug all the way off and discard it. The new hose comes with a threaded end that goes in where the drain plug was

    It's not good. You have an empty oil filter. level will go lower when the filter fills up.

    my method is to drill a hole on the red metal board,let the plastic pipe go through the hole so oil flow easiler,but still its pain in the butt everytime i see the hour meter reach 50 i get nervous.

    Have part # for that drain hose? Thanks!

      I used # STAN1438 but you will want to look it up on their site, it might vary if you have the Kawasaki engine instead of the Kohler

    I use an oil extractor. Much easier than messing around with the drain plug or adding a hose as you did. Just saying...
