I got the official charging base for the controllers too and also surprised how people getting this wrong. It so simple. The third party ones I have seen look ridiculous in most instances
A few people on Reddit have shown them burning up in what appears to be some sort of electrical short occurring. Some are wondering whether this is due to sweat getting in the port, but I would be cautious at the moment (until we sort out the actual cause). Chargers should have a variety of protections built in though I don’t know how these magnetic attachments factor in.
@@CIVICMINDED I haven’t seen anything just yet. They’d have to be able to reproduce it to understand why this is happening and AFAIK it’s a fairly small group that’s reported this online.
I like the Sony charger too. Another thing, if the magnet was really strong, you'd be moving that thing all over the place every time you picked them up. I'll be looking for an official licensed case, like PowerA had for the PSVR1.
Just came across a post in the PSVR subreddit where someone's controller got burnt up using this. Idk how widespread the issue is, but I don't think I could personally trust the thing after seeing that. Another person in the thread had the same issue and returned both the PSVR 2, for a new one, and the charging station to Best Buy without much issue. I'm personally holding off on the station to see if it gets recalled.
@jeffrey bankers Yeah, haven't heard more about it. I'll get one and keep my fingers crossed. I'll probably still unplug it for long breaks between sessions though, just in case. 😅
I agree 100% with the charging station. I just ordered my PSVR2 yesterday, it's out for delivery today (YAY!) and got the charging station along with it. You're already spending $550 on the PSVR2, you might as well spend the additional $50 on the correct charging station. I've seen some people buy the cheaper flashy ones and I just don't like the way they look. I've already heard of some breaking within just a few days. As far as the case goes, I'm glad you reviewed it. I almost bought it to protect my PSVR2 from my energetic GSD puppy when it's not in use, but I decided (thanks to this video) to just get some lense protectors and hang it up near the PS5. She hasn't broken the PS5 in 9 months, so I think the PSVR2 will be safe too. Worst case, I can put it back in the Sony box. They showed in the un-boxing/setup video that people can just store it in there. Who knows, I'm pretty crafty, maybe I'll make a storage case of my own with wood and EVA foam?
Awesome! Yeah I was hopeful on the case... But it just doesnt work and really feels like it will cause some damage in the long run. So ill wait for a official licensed one or just put it in the box for now to keep it protected. But glad my video was of help!
Glad you made this video - charging the VR2 sense controllers is unsightly with cables and a wall charger, plus I found it doesn't always charge them properly. I also bought a Chinese 3rd party charger for the controllers (as well as the Dual Sense controllers) and it sucked, the magnet adapter didn't fit on the DS and when seating the VR2 controller w/adapter it would charge for 1/2 a second and then stop. It's a shame cause it also held the PSVR2 but if it doesn't work charging why have it? I'm waiting on the official one from Sony. Even if the connection isn't strong enough I'm sure they'll have adapters w/stronger magnetism. The adapter pair itself shouldn't be all that expensive.
my charger looks great, but there can be no doubt its a bit fiddly to ensure the controllers are charging. I find I pinch each controller at the top and give a little twist left and right, and if it doesn't move its in the right place
Yeah, headset cases aren't really necessary. Like others have said the inner box was designed to store the headset when not in use. I'll never buy a case after the one I bought for the psvr 1 made my headset stink of rubber. The sense charging dock just takes a little time to get used when positioning in the dock. Glad I ordered one, beats messing around charging by cable.
I just drape a lint free cloth over my headset. You can also get a shoebox, cut a mousehole shape into the rear of the lid (for the cable), and use that.
I love reading negative reviews on products like this, and then picturing how DUMB that person must be... Bet they tried to use it to slice their bread...
Did you mention how long it takes to fully charge them? I skipped some bits because I felt like you were only talking about one thing the whole time... Or maybe this was just the wrong video for me since I was looking for some more technical data on the charging station🤷
I have an issue no one talking about whit the station... if the controllers are too drop dead my station don't charge them and I don't see the lights on, but if I charge them a little whit cables and then put them on the station again it start to work 🤷 so whats the point of use it? you could say.... i try to not discharge too much the controllers so I can use the station right away
I totally agree. I wouldn't trust a 3rd party charging station (no matter how cool the LED's look). I can see why people find the charger annoyingly fiddly. I expected it to be more like the official Sony Dual Sense Controller charger - where it clips in, then releases when fully charged. It took me a few goes at lining them up and it I sat back thinking, is there a light, is it charging, and eventually, I saw a subtle light coming from both of the controllers. I've got a few concerns with the design. First up those adapters that you plug into the USB C ports... What if we lose them? Can we purchase them separately. The other is, much like the Move motion controllers, i'd like to have a spare set on hand so I can keep on playing in-case i've forgotten to charge the controllers. And, over time, the battery life seemed to get shorter and shorter on the Move, so will Sony allow us to purchase the Left and Right Dual Sense VR Controllers at a later date? As for the case, there definitely needs to be an official one. They had a somewhat official one for the original PSVR (though, even that one was released by a 3rd party)... I have my original V1 and V2 in those cases. Yes, I bought both, as I had an OG PS4 in the study and a PS4 Pro in the living room. Thank god the PSVR2 doesn't need the co-processor box... just one simple USB C cable to plug in. Great device, but it's a pity it's not backwards compatible for PSVR1 games. Can't have it all I guess.
I bought some ultra cheap carrying cases for Xbox Series X, Switch, and PS5 and theyr're amazing. I live in China and use the TaoBao app to buy a lot of things that seem sketchy, but it's pretty good. I started understanding how these drop shipping mo-fos make their money because some of the things there are pretty useful. There are some crappy things though. VR2 just came out and there hasn't been a suitable case. I owned the current gen consoles for a year before buying a case for moving purposes, so it was probably better waiting a while when the demand for nicer cases becomes higher.
I agree. I have the charger, and haven't had any problem. I love the look and its style. Some people are just lazy. They think they can just throw it in and walk away without checking, come on, be real people.
i pre ordered the official dock charger day one. its a little wonky to set the controllers in to rest and charge but u get used to how to do it. i noticed during the period the VR2 controllers were busted for many people, myself included, the controllers one day began to mysteriously glow.. the charging lights i mean. they were updating apparently, quietly, in the background because the next day? all my games worked perfect. but i try to only use official pereipherals when possible. also mr pixel i just bought the big 6 sega genesis controller, wireless... and a wireless snes 8bitdo pad, too. i hope its worth it!
Why not use the original box as the storage box, they even advertised the box as a storage box when not in use. I remember them mentioning it in the official unboxing/setup video 😊
Have you or anyone else been having issues with the VR2 getting hot 🥵 in the forehead area? I hope it’s not defected but yeah I didn’t like the wireless charging station at first, but now we are used to it a few times I thought it was charging and it wasn’t due to me stupidity of having the charging dock faced the wrong way😅but I really hope Sony honor a replacement the 30 days is up but I could’ve sworn it said since it was pre ordered we get more time to return or replace that’s why I took my time 😢 to begin with.
I agree with your reason for wanting the official charger.. but Ive heard of collective minds before and lots of people have said theyre great! ... unfortunately they underestimated their sales numbers so I still don't have my preorder lol
Just remember there are no spare parts for the Sony dock. At least not according to Sony. So if you lose those miniature adapters for the controllers, you have to buy an entire new charging dock. Extremely wasteful.
I saw Disco-VR really lay into the charging dock for some reason. People were saying that she doesn't know how to use it because she is a woman. Some people can be so rude, lol.
I made the mistake of buying the case and it didn’t smell but the case is garbage. I just got a headset holder with a built in charging dock on Amazon for like 30 bucks. I also bought two silicone lens protectors to cover the lenses while it’s on the stand.
I wish I could get the controller charging dock ... but you know it's out of stock of course. Buy hey I did manage to pick up a Steam Deck dock to play on my TV so that's pretty cool.
As soon as you put that case on the table it looked familiar to me. I've got a bunch of cases for the Switch and other things with a very similar design and material. Must be easy to pump those out in China. Like you said they often stink really bad. I've found if you just leave them sitting out/open for a week or so to air out they get a lot better. If the fit isn't right then I definitely wouldn't bother, though.
I have the same case. It smells the exact same as new shoes you might get, that sorta factory rubber smell. It's not that bad, I think you are overreacting. The case is fine, but I only use it to keep my headset in to protect it from dust/scratches/sunlight etc. I have no need to store the controllers(as they sit on the charging dock) and actually transport it, so if that is the hang up then fine. Without the controllers the cord fits fine and the headset fits perfect in it.
Mine doesn't flash the light just stays on but the ps5 is telling me it's not charged. I even tried charging with wire the light stays on. Can anyone help
For real. I may just keep the box near by to put the headset in and leave the controllers on the charger. Hopefully a decent official one comes out for a carrying case... but the box is as safe as it gets lol.
