One of my favourite things about Mass Effect: Normandy is also the name of the beach that was stormed during WWII that effectively began the end of the war. How fitting that this Normandy also be Commander Shepard's ship and the spearhead for the war effort.
A ship that needs no introduction. A fortified star hurtling across the sky at unfathomable speeds. A beacon of hope to those who seek sanctuary. This is the ship of Commander Shepard. This is Normandy.
This is epic in the literal and figurative senses. It fits Mass Effect so well. In fact, the line "The many will call on the deeds of the few and we will see this burden through." pretty much sums up the trilogy.
if you mean at 2:17, maybe that's because that's NOT Kirrahe, that's Padok Wiks. Kirrahe is in that mission as well, if he survives ME1, but that's not him.
It's like, staggering how good these guys' music is while also being about a video game. I've had the commander shepard song stuck in my head for like 7+ years at this point and I'm not even mad.
You know, with a few lyrical changes to the first verse, this could also be a good dedication to the men who died on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. That's pretty cool.
Especially since "The many will call on the deeds of the few." is kinda similar to a Churchill quote ("Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few".) Although that quote referred to The Battle of Britain.
Dr. Jekkl and Mr. Snide "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few," - considering British humour it's no surprise that the first time the quote was broadcast over the radio a British fighter pilot commented "He must be talking about our bar bills."
"The many will call on the deeds of the few." God I love that line. It's so evocative. That's how it always is with human history a few people push things forward, and make things better for everyone.
It's been a damn good ride.. The best one.. I just loved the citadel DLC made me laugh , feel and even shed a tear! Miss the normandy personnel.. goodbye friends
+Robin Kuijt The Citadel DLC had me laughing my ass off the entire time, just made the ending hurt that much more though... God just finished the Trilogy today feel like I'm fucking depressed lol.
"..control the violence in your heart" - the best verse in this song to me... everytime i hear it... you truly are a miracle, Miracle of Sound!!! love it forever
Finished Mass Effect, and I'm an hour into Mass Effect 2... All I have to say is. Thank you Miracle of Sound for making me want to experience this series
Kamikaze ZenRonin I had the same experience. Bought the trilogy on release, but couldn't get through the first part of 1. Listened to these, and forced my way into one of my 3 favorite games..
@@thewanderer5506 I know this message is yearsssss old but to answer that question it's prbly cause the first game didn't age well and it's controls and layout are bad
I love your ME3 songs so much because the songs make you feel Shepards Struggle and desperations and betrayal. I mean, the game does that, but to make a song to give that affect, that means you just made two amazing songs. Great job man.
I am 42 now. I have a 12 year old son. He has grown up listening to Gav. Yesterday I purchased the legendary Mass Effect pack. Soon, he too shall be Shephard. He will assemble his crew and go forth. And then, after the game absolutely wrecks him we shall bond further. He will understand why his father sheds a tear at this song and others. He will understand why it had to be Mordin. Someone else would have got it wrong.
This song is awesome. I've never played a Mass Effect game, and yet it created the same feeling I know Mass Effect is supposed to make. A good composer can bring emotions back to someone. A great one can make them.
I played whole trilogy (femshep/Liara, full paragon, all dlc) for the first time last year.. Going blind into it in pretty much one go. (~120 hours in a week) Game 1 - great, game 2 - awesome, game 3... Well, I cried.. A lot.. And pretty much nothing have ever made me cry before I might be some extreme case tho because I just finished 8th full trilogy run xD (still only femshep, still with blue fever and couldnt care less for other than paragon stuff) but ya missing out good sir. xD
+MedJay06 Well, a few renegade moves are worth it, paragon seems too naive when an enemy has just screwed with you.... but I agree, paragon all the way otherwise :)
8 runs are still acceptable, if you'd compare to me. I've lost track long ago. And I confirm I tend to repeat a lot of choices (Male Vanguard (Novaguard style), paragon with bits of renegade when someone deserves a punch to his (or her, I'm not sexist ;) ) somewhere, and with Tali's romance), though I try to vary sometimes, now I'm a Soldier and I'm going with Liara's route.
I'm on my third play through of the trilogy myself. All three have been paragon male Shepards (I'm sorry, I just get into the scene better if I'm the same gender and alignment as my character.) I only got the DLC for this last one, as I had borrowed the game at first for the 360, purchased it for myself on PC, and got the DLC after the first PC play through was complete. My red-armored paragon sniper is all I ever use. I should really break out of that mold, but I can't help but act paragon to people. My need to save all of my crew in Mass Effect 2 gave me a pathological need to stay as obnoxiously consistent as possible.
When I hear that song I feel like saluting and pledging my allegiance to the Normandy. And there are a hell lot of names on the memorial stone at the end.
I love all your songs, Sir, this one really gets it. I loved this series, felt it was such a waste to end it the way they did. All they needed was a tiered system of "Golden ending" with the war assets to "Worst case" (I.E the most horrible destroy ending) and maybe the option for control as a second option with equal issues on war assets. This song gives me the right feeling of hope and celebration of a fantastic series.
Why does it need a golden ending? ...Perhaps if the scrapped plan to sacrifice the character closest to Shepard to be wtfpwned by Kai Leng in order to get the Crucible data early was used. High personal costs for a golden ending.
Oh I'm not against darkness or grimmness etc. The bit where Miranda CAN die is pretty strong. But to be honest, if the game is being sold as "choices matter", then why not have a golden ending? But make it damn hard to get. Or you can get a golden ending but, as you say, you can rush it with some sacrifice.. or lots of sacrifice. They could've done bittersweet a lot better, to be honest. If I'm frank, I think that they were going to get complaints any which way, because the franchise is so well loved that I don't think anyone WANTED it to end... especially as ME4 is now being made. But as I said, make it damn hard to get a perfect ending. If they wanted to make it a bleak story, then they succeeded. But don't ask me to like it. Artistically, it works, but it doesn't satisfy on a story beat level.
Jeremy Lash Personally, my perfect ending would have kept the motives of the Reapers at least slightly mysterious and would not have been any of that "harvesting to prevent rogue AI's" lyrical. Maybe they could have been some sort of "insane" AI that developed a god complex and destroyed others merely out of arrogance. There would need to be varying levels of sacrifice like Shepard themselves, the squad you brought, the entire Normandy or something like that. I really didn't like the idea of synthesis since it sort of contradicts the idea that difference is a good thing. The things I most wanted were tactical decisions on the battlefield like in the Suicide Mission (deploy Krogan forces here or STG there), actually showing the war assets collected in gameplay and cutscenes at the end (I was really looking forward to seeing the Rachni queen fighting) and to give more closure to what happened to the surviving characters and races afterwards. Maybe even a short epilogue where we can play as the LI for a little while to see the repercussions of the battle. I know all that would take a lot more scratch and development time than they had, but for me it would have been an ideal ending for the trilogy.
The amount of chance, things that need to happen for life to form and evolution to happen, is so unbelievably high, that even with that enormous time frame it is nearly impossible.
Currently playing Mass Effect 1 for the first time... really looking forward to playing through the rest of the series. It is such a good game. It's like I feel like the crew of the Normandy are my friends even though I know they're just fictional characters.
Convinced the gf to start playing the trilogy. And now its all rushing back in to my mind... After all these years still one of the best and most moving songs i ever heard.
The curved shape of the Normandy seems to indicate that is was designed primarily for in-atmosphere maneuvering. This may explain the placement of the engines.
The explosion of a supernova occurs in a star in a very short timespan of about 100 seconds. A real blink of an eye takes 300 to 400 milliseconds. Since there's 1000 milliseconds in each second, a blink of an eye takes around 1/3 of a second. Compared to the time span of one full second, a blink of an eye is an eternity.
I seem to have developed a weird pattern when it comes to ME, every few months I'll play this, Take it Back and Commander Shepherd and follow it up with reliving the death of Mordin (musical version- Gilbert and Sullivan Salarian), Legions death and the last goodbye to Tali just to remind myself and torture my emotions. But oddly, it makes me happy. The memories will never fade, Keilah' Selai
I went and replaced the credits song to ME3 with this one. We need a petition to get it into the Mass Effect movie (assuming that ever gets out of development hell)
i need help guys. Im fighting a one man war against the reapers on ME3 multiplayer. I need a squad, i am on PC please guys i cant fight the reapers alone.
On the outside, sure; on the inside, I'll wait until we can see inside of the tempest. The interior of the Normandy was very poorly designed for a warship. But then a truer warship layout would have made a poor game environment.
Out of the 4 Mass Effect songs you've done Gavin, this one I think is my favourite. I think it just fits the theme of the trilogy the best out of them all
Huh. I kinda have to wonder, now, who recorded the gameplay footage for this? Because they have the same build I used to run. Sentinel with Phaeston rifle.
Born the 11th of April 2154, KIA at an unspecified date of late 2186/early 2187, at least after the 5th of October 2186, since this (a Turian offensive on Taetrus) is the only precisely dated event of the Reaper War ... Though in one ending we have a glimpse of a soldier in N7 armor taking a sudden breath into the rubble, so he may have survived and lived after the war in these cases (though as he states before the final offensive on the Battle of London, he'll probably have retired from the military and the Spectres, what's after is left to player's imagination and fanfic writers)
Rayleigh Jones I dont think he would've survived that, (to my memory) the body was extremly damaged, he may taken a gasp, but that could've been his final breath, it doesnt always mean the person lives And I doubt Cerberus would be willing to go through The Lazarus Project
If Mass Effect: Andromeda is half as good as ME3, then it will be an amazing game. If it's better, then I'm fairly certain that I am going to lose hundreds of hours of my life.
Ah, Gavin. You never cease to amaze me. It's almost hilarious how PERFECTLY this song goes with all 3 games! Like many other of your fans put it, you seemingly effortlessly capture the soul of the game. Thanks for 5 minutes of headbanging, by the way. ;)
+Plasmius Warp ammo is good against people with biotic barriers which all biotics automatically have instead of kinetic shields which in turn are weak to disrupter ammo and overload.
first heard this song some time ago and though it amazing. Just finished playing the ME trilogy and coming back and listening to this again is incredible. Feels hit me like a ton of bricks. Perfect capture of the essence of the games. You go Gav!
This song brings a tear to my eye. I've served on the Normandy for the past 5 and I recently lost all my game saves for all my games. 5 long years of saving the galaxy, making friends and enemy's, and obviously romancing liara because she is the best. All of it is gone. But I'm gonna do it all again, because mass effect is worth and because it's about the journey not the destination.
Best times of my life were spent on that ship. It's been a damn good ride.
The best

It's an entire region in France, not just a beach. The beaches in Normandy stormed where Omaha, Juno, Sword and Utah (all were codenames of course) ;)

This is the first time I've replied to any of your songs I've faved so far, but I really wish I could fav this a thousand times over.
i need help guys. Im fighting a one man war against the reapers on ME3 multiplayer. I need a squad, i am on PC please guys i cant fight the reapers alone.
Yes you can! You're Comman...wait...no, you're not Shepard...sorry kid.
For whatever reason, today I had the most intense feels from listening to this song. God bless you Gav.
who else thinks the normandy looks better than the tempest
Nothing can top the Normandy :)
The Normandy Sr-2 is amongst the best ever space ship designs, topping that would have been a very tall order.
On the outside, sure; on the inside, I'll wait until we can see inside of the tempest. The interior of the Normandy was very poorly designed for a warship. But then a truer warship layout would have made a poor game environment.
Tempest is stripped-down Normandy. She was not built as a warship, unlike the Normandies SR-1 and SR-2.
glrasshopper Interior of the Tempest is certainly better.
Citadel DLC is the best thing that happened to the Mass Effect trilogy!
Awesome song, like all the others! :D
always makes me want to play mass effect 3 again :D
Solitude Guard shouldn't you guarding something ?
Solitude Guard Shouldn't you be catching nefarious sweetroll-thief?
+lenni marjomaa I thik the sweet-roll thief shot an arrow in the guard's knee.
+Gaming Master Anthony Yes he did in fact the reason it took me so long is i had Arrow in knee surgery or did i get married i cant remember :I
Solitude Guard Ahhh yes very similar events. I always mix them up too.
Best years of my life were spent on that ship. Been a damn good ride.
this trilogy needs to be remastered for current gen.
+Midnightstone73 PC IS ALWAYS CURRENT GEN
sry for caps lock I don't know what got to me
+GhostRider659 All hail the glorious PC Master Race!
+ZachValkyrie Wii U master race
+Scelerat Ablepsia Amiga master race
xXx xXx nokia master race
Out of the 4 Mass Effect songs you've done Gavin, this one I think is my favourite. I think it just fits the theme of the trilogy the best out of them all
I have the strangest feeling that we haven't seen the last of the normandy or maybe its just me :/
vizioxbox Mass Effect will continue, it was stated in the end of Mass Effect 3. It might not be on the Normandy though.
+Alex Dagos that's what we have fanfiction and head cannon for
+Alex Dagos I meant the ship itself but yea go mass effect :D
Huh. I kinda have to wonder, now, who recorded the gameplay footage for this?
Because they have the same build I used to run. Sentinel with Phaeston rifle.
First FTL should be named Enterprise. Second-Normandy
It should, but they'll probably name it after a stupid politician.
egoist920 USS Donald Tramp or RSS Vladimir Putin
Well I heard that the first U.S space shuttle was named Enterprise because of Star Trek fans. So who knows.
Jacob Clark First space shuttle is Columbia. Named by Naval ship. Enterprise is just prototype

What else would we call her?
I constantly keep coming back to my favorite few songs. Normandy. Joker's Song, Nord Mead, The New Black Gold. Gav, keep up the great work!
Never foget - Commander Shepard, 20something - 20something
+PVTMTA 21something-2189(i remeber that ME 3 Plays 2189 a.d)
it's 2186, not 2189
Born the 11th of April 2154, KIA at an unspecified date of late 2186/early 2187, at least after the 5th of October 2186, since this (a Turian offensive on Taetrus) is the only precisely dated event of the Reaper War
...
Rayleigh Jones I dont think he would've survived that, (to my memory) the body was extremly damaged, he may taken a gasp, but that could've been his final breath, it doesnt always mean the person lives
And I doubt Cerberus would be willing to go through The Lazarus Project
I'm looking at a documentary of the beaches of Normandy while listing at this song.
If Mass Effect: Andromeda is half as good as ME3, then it will be an amazing game. If it's better, then I'm fairly certain that I am going to lose hundreds of hours of my life.
The hours aren't lost if you do something you enjoy.
Ah, Gavin. You never cease to amaze me.
It's almost hilarious how PERFECTLY this song goes with all 3 games! Like many other of your fans put it, you seemingly effortlessly capture the soul of the game. Thanks for 5 minutes of headbanging, by the way. ;)
His name was Marauder Shields
youre such a great composer thanks for the music its awesome. I love ME and your songs fit perfect
warp ammo? I see you like to live dangerously.
Incendiary ammo FTW! It keeps cannibals from eating corpses.
+Matt C I thought incendiary and warp was the same, just 1 has fire and another has biotics, and both can be used in comonations
+Matt C Is that what ME3 -dmg +shield piercing is called?
+Plasmius Warp ammo is good against people with biotic barriers which all biotics automatically have instead of kinetic shields which in turn are weak to disrupter ammo and overload.
+HellsRaven4444 it also does more damage agains armor and health.
Your songs are awesome
RIP shepard :/
Legends never die.
Way to help defuse the situation. Your a hero to us all.
nice creative work and sound
... I just came here to listen to the song... And I just have to say: I've seen long arguments in TH-cam before, but this definitely takes the cake.
I didn't think this journey would ever end.
first heard this song some time ago and though it amazing. Just finished playing the ME trilogy and coming back and listening to this again is incredible. Feels hit me like a ton of bricks. Perfect capture of the essence of the games. You go Gav!
I got chills that I can't get rid of thx Miracle of Sound XD
I just got this g ameand i love it. I went on to your channel and saw this song about me3 and i love it!
