Great holiday video Dave. Not enough of Helen! We love your bright and breezy videos. Thank you, from Australia (we are in our caravan watching now at 8,15 pm Monday 29 July)
Lovely Vlog Guys. Haven't been to the Isle of Wight for many years. I have just convinced Suzanne that we need to visit. Thanks for sharing......Paul and Suzanne.
It’s looking g like a trip to the Isle of Wight is on the cards now following your last 2 amazing videos. Thanks for sharing your trip with us. Very nice! Chris & Steve 😊
What a great video, you excelled yourself Dave with your photography and editing on this one. Ventnor has a spot in our hearts as it’s where my parents had their honeymoon in 1952. You’ve definitely sowed a seed for us to visit the IOW again, we haven’t been for a very long time.
Hi Sandra, we hadn’t been since the 80’s and our children were little but must say, it was much better than we had remembered and getting the caravan there was no problem. Thanks as always, Helen & Dave 👍
Cheers Terry, we had a lovely stay here. It really is just as you describe. We would recommend a visit if you get the chance. Hope you’re well. Cheers, Helen & Dave
Hi Alison, must agree, It's a lovely place and we really enjoyed South Lychett too. Dorset is lovely and it was our first time with the caravan. Stay tuned and thank you for watching. Helen & Dave
Great video Dave & Helen 👍. The sea is beautiful, the sand is very golden, we had forgotten how delightful the IoW is. Excellent drone shots, you captured it all well ☀. We love a chair lift Dave and a model village too and what a good one it was, very realistic. Your double fish with chips made my mouth water 😋. Turning out to be a lovely tour for you. Looking forward to the next one, take care, Rob & Gail 😀
Hi Rob & Gail, we've had a hectic week and yet to get around to viewing much TH-cam but noticed you have a new post from Southport, so will get to view soon. We really did enjoy the IOW and it was quite a long time ago that we last went but getting the caravan over there was no issue and would highly recommend it. Cromer crab over the lobster any day. The fish was excellent at Ryde (skinless). Best wishes to you both. Helen & Dave
Aww love the Isle of Wight ❤ when I was young we always stayed at Whitecliff Bay I have so many wonderful special holidays with beautiful memories ❤ my sister lives on the island near Sandown 😊I think I have seen most of the island like you say it’s stunning 😍so many lovey places to see love Yarmouth 😊 thank you for a great video 😊can’t believe you didn’t visit Whitecliff Bay and Bembridge 😊
Hi Jackie, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Yes, we’re with you, great place. Visiting all of the other wonderful sites there gives us the perfect excuse to go back. ATB, Helen & Dave
Hi Helen and Dave, That was a fantastic look at what the Isle can offer, certainly worth a visit 😊. Sorry about your lobster got a funny feeling Cromer crab would be nicer and cheaper 😋. We guess that regatta week would be absolutely chaotic 🙃 We visited South Lychett Manor about 5 years ago and really enjoyed it, lovely friendly staff and site. Hope the pop up bar from badger brewery still comes to site really nice beers 🍻. Bus stop outside of site if it still runs. Looking forward to the vlog. Take care and stay safe as always. Paul and Joanne 👍 ❤️
Hi Paul & Joanne, that lobster was tasty but the Cromer crab might have been more palatable as they cost around £10-£15, quite a significant saving. South Lytchett was great! Didn’t see the brewery on site though. Check in next week and stay safe. Helen & Dave 👍
Thanks for sharing, it's really inspired me to go tothe Isle of Wight. Never been before always wanted to go. I even have relatives who live there . Thanks Steve
Cheers Martin, Stunning sums it up nicely, we thoroughly enjoyed it and thanks for taking the time to watch, as always we appreciate it. ATB, Helen & Dave
Great video again. Love the IOW, so much to see and do. I think that lobster at 75 quid was a bit over the top but the fish you had later in the vid looked great. Enjoy your time ;))
Hi Helen and Dave a fabulous video and really enjoyed seeing all my favourite parts of the island and many more besides it sounds like you both had a wonderful time there! I was enthralled by the hovercrafts at ryde and spent ages watching them Did you try the garlic farm know know you like your food! Looks like you had the weather! All the best to you all Daniel
Hi Daniel, we didn’t get to the garlic farm which Helen keeps going on at me for 😂😂However we both really enjoyed the Island, so much to see and do. Thanks as always, Helen & Dave
I was born on the Isle of Wight and and going to miss my trip home, from Canada, this year. Just a few points: The Boatyard at the Spuglass is actually one of three rental accommodations, when I was younger the Spyglass was a friend's house. Best time I've found to go is Kate Sept to mid Oct. Weather is still excellent and the tourists and school kids are gone. As for the hovercraft, it's not just British built, is was built on the Isle of Wight, Cowes if you take the ferry from Cowes to Southhampton,, the building with the Union Jack is where it was invented and built in secrecy. My mum worked there as a teenager, ordering parts under disguised names
Oh how glad I was to find this video. I usually go to the Isle of Wight every year, but I've not been able to get there (or anywhere else for that matter) for two years now. I miss it so much. I've been to Ventnor (got a parking ticket as there was literally nowhere for disabled to park), The Hut, (expensive but right on the beach), Ryde (had several hours to kill before my ferry home) and Yarmouth, the Gossips Cafe is owned and run by a friend of mine that I went to school with. The food is excellent, likewise the staff. Well worth dropping in. No I'm not biased - well maybe a little, but it is wonderful and literally over the water. Right next to the Red Funnel Ferry Terminal (Ferry from Lymington to Yarmouth). And you are right, there is so much to see and do on the Island. I seem to find something new each time I go. Thank you for the video, it's the closest thing I will get to a trip to the island now.
Hi Gerry, delighted to hear from you and glad you liked the video. As a seasoned visitor you'll easily see what we enjoyed our trip so much and agree with you that future visits will result in new to us attractions, watering holes and places of interest to visit. We genuinely loved every minute and hope you get the chance to revisit one day soon. Thanks also much for watching and please stay tuned. Best wishes, Helen & Dave
Ah cheers Janice, it’s lovely to get feedback like this and we never take your support for granted, thank you. We are lucky to live in such a lovely country. Stay well, Helen & Dave 👍
Hi Norman, many thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video. As you can tell we really enjoyed it and won't leave it too long before we return again. We hope you have a great trip and stay tuned! ATB, Helen & Dave
Hello Dave and Helen, oh wow the chair lift looked amazing but very high. The beach 🏖️ looks beautiful as does the sea. Nice harbour. The restaurant had great views. Ooh the lemon sole is what I would go for although your lobster looked yum. Can’t beat a look around a model village. Lovely video, take care x Julie and Tony x
Hello Julie & Tony, thank you as always, hope you're both well. We really enjoyed this trip and from here we moved to Dorset, also a really nice stay. Take care, Helen & Dave
Hi Stephen, thanks very much, we had a great stay on the IOW although we were only there for 5 nights so pretty sure we will have to return and visit more of the amazing places to go. Stay tuned, Helen & Dave 👍
One of my most favorite places I loved from "Escape to the Country. " I would have gone on the ski lift What a view!! Love sea food your lobster is like the ones we get here in Florida NBD. I lived in Maine for a year we used to go down to the dock and buy fresh lobster from the lobstermen nothing like it! That is a lovely place to go thanks for the tag along.❤
Hi Virginia, the lobster was lovely but £75 was a bit expensive. The Isle of Wight though was amazing, we should have stayed longer but we have another lovely video for you for next week. Stay safe and thank you for your transatlantic view 😊👍 Cheers, Helen & Dave
Hi there Mark, it's worth a visit. Wish we had stayed a little longer, plenty to see and do on the island. Thanks for watching. Happy travels, Helen & Dave
Thoroughly enjoyed your two videos on the Isle of wight, didn't realize how beautiful the place is. Your information regarding booking the ferry through the campsite was good to know. You saved a fortune. Thank you for being honest about the price of the lobster It's definitely one place we won't be visiting for food at those prices 😂. Looking forward to your next adventure keep up the good work 😊
Hi Nia, thanks so much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. Avoiding lobster going forward 😂 IOW was lovely and well worth a visit. Stay tuned, we’re off to Dorset next. Cheers, Helen & Dave
Hi Lesley, you're right, when the sun was out it looked so different. Really enjoyed it though. Glad the sun is out for you today. Have a good trip. Helen & Dave
I've been once and loved it. Also I had a go at the helm of the Headmaster's boat going along the Solent in 1977 watching the Silver Jubilee Naval Review which was Boattastic :)
Plenty to like about the place that's for sure. Would have liked a go at the helm of a sailing boat, must admit. Hope you're well and thanks for watching. Helen & Dave
Hi Dave & Helen, how amazing is the IOW wow its stunning i think we need to put this on our list. Cant believe that lobster was £75 😯 i have always wanted to try it but its always been a lot of money to pay if i dont like it.Enjoy the rest of your stay, your probably back now lol. See you both soon xx
Hi Julie, won’t be rushing to buy lobster, think Cromer crab is more my thing 😂 tastes very nice but at a price! We’ve been back a while now but we moved on to Dorset from the IOW. Very nice as well! Thanks as always. Helen & Dave
My first visit to the needles was in about 1964 we had to walk both ways and every change in level you had to climb a wooden ladder it seem to take ages
Hi Sue, well as you can tell, we loved it and think it’s a must visit part of the UK. Hope you’re well and thank you once again for watching us. Cheers, Helen & Dave 👍
Great reviews and walks showing us the island, it truly is a lovely place. Looking forward to Dorset as that’s where we are at the moment at the CAMC Hunters Moon site which is lovely. Dorset is a really nice County for sure. Also really enjoying the Dometic Sun Canopy that you have and reviewed, with the sides in as well it’s a quick to put up sheltered space. All the best both Tris and Nikki 😀😀
Hi Tris & Nikki, We only had a short stay in Dorset but it was beautiful too and we must go back there. Glad you’re enjoying your sun canopy! Cheers, Helen & Dave 👍
Fantastic video, we retired last week 👏 and we definitely want to go to the IOW. It will probably be next year now, but this video has been really insightful, so thank you. By the way we were in a pub the other day and saw Ghostship, not the beer but crisps, I didn’t know they did crisps, but it made me think of your channel! 😂
Congratulations to you both on your retirement. Soon you will wonder how you ever found the time to go to work 😊 The IOW was wonderful, wish we could have had more time there. Be careful with the Ghostship crisps, two packets of those and you’re over the limit. Thanks for watching. Take care, Helen & Dave 👍
Hi Dave & Helen, Another great video, we have just come back from a week at the Isle of Wight Sunday (21/7), having been last year. Prior to that, we hadn't been since 2012 and had forgotten what a great place the island is. Incidentally, we will be in your neck of the woods at the Norfolk Broads site 2 weeks Sunday.
Hi Nigel, like you we really loved our trip to the IOW. Spot on! Hope you like The Norfolk Broads site, we will be in Suffolk when you are there. Thanks for watching! Helen & Dave 👍
No need to apologise I really enjoyed it I’m on my own now for 3wks just gets lonely sad after 60 yrs together but we enjoyed our caravanning enjoy it when your able thanks for your videos Frances ☹️☹️👋👋
Frances, good attitude Frances, we retired early to make the most of caravanning and sharing adventures together. Life is too short and enjoying it while you're able is a good approach we think. Thanks, Helen & Dave
Looks like we may now do a trip abroad there next year, apparently. I did suggest getting one of those mini micro caravans to tow behind a motorcycle, ferry costs would be much less, although, I have been told though that it would be too noisy….. Great filmography, as usual, really doing the place justice, although the Lobster looked decidedly worse for wear.
Would love to see you in a full facial Mel lol! Cromer crab any day over the Lobster, over rated and over priced! Great place though. Thanks for watching, cheers, Helen & Dave
Lovey island my cousin and wife has their boat and goes to Greece don’t think they do it now as time passes to fast they are in freshwater brilliant video 🛳️☀️☀️
Thanks so much Frances. Freshwater was just around the corner from The Hut restaurant we were at. WE loved our time there. Thanks again for watching, much appreciated. Helen & Dave
We like the IOW quite convenient for us where we're based and often pop over for even a day trip. Get some good ferry deals now & again. Great vid as always with you two guys! Very good drone footage Dave what model do you use? Atb Paul & Lin.❤
Hi Paul & Lin, thanks so much for watching. We would visit often too if we were closer. Some lovely places to visit. The drone is a DJI mini 2. Take care, Helen & Dave
Another note is did you have to pay a supplement for the caravan being over 7mtrs. Or do they not count the hitch as part of the length? On the Whitelink ferry
Short answer is yes but the price in the video includes the supplement. Top tip! Book the ferry via the campsite you’re staying at and you we’ll pay half the normal ferry fare. We stayed with Whitefield Forest but most bigger sites offer a ferry discount. Cheers, Helen & Dave
@HelenandDave we've always done Caribbean, Asia and Maldives for almost 30 yrs and we've lived on the IOW and hated every minute of it. Its decades behind the rest of the world, Trapped by rip off ferry operators and surrounded by people that have never even been off the island......
@@GiveItaGo Dave’s brother lived there in the late 70’s and his family hated it too. I think it’s the micro climate, palm trees, beaches and blue sea that gave it the being abroad feel to us 👍
Nicely edited video and I can see your enthusiasm for the IOW. Hailing from the south I’ve been there for both work and play over the years. Last time we visited, my daughter performed a music academy concert by the map of the Isle of Wight you showed in Ventnor. I have mixed feelings about the Island honestly. I always found it a little boring/ downtrodden with the exception of Shanklin, hence we have no interest in returning as there are so many other parts of the UK and Europe we want to explore.
Hi Peter, completely get where you're coming from. When you've done something to death or even a few times it's never got the same fresh appeal that it once had. It was so long since we were last there and we visited so many more places this time that we didn't see previously. We are lucky to have such a wonderful and diverse country to tour and enjoy. Thanks for watching and enjoy your travels. Helen & Dave
@@HelenandDave Leeson Rd is Shanklin-Ventnor, closed completely near Bonchurch. No date for re-opening set and it will not be permanent. Search for 'Shanklin Ventnor railway' for arguments to bring that back!
@@HelenandDave Leeson Rd is Shanklin-Ventnor, closed for 6 months due to landslip at Bonchurch. It may never reopen permanently. Shanklin-Ventnor railway is an option but controversial due to cost.
@@HelenandDave Yep bad for Ventnor! Only 1 wide road still passable and that (Wroxall Road) is in a mess. All holidaymakers on the IoW need to keep an eye on this...
As you can tell, we really enjoyed it but didn't realise that erosion was taking place at Vintner, that's such a shame. You're quite right about the micro climate, it's quite amazing. Thanks for watching. ATB, Helen & Dave
@@HelenandDaveyes sadly the worst part recently affected is Bonchurch there used to be a great forest walk there called the devils chimney and sadly that’s all gone because of the erosion. So sad. I’m definitely going to subscribe I loved your vlog and your editing / aerial views you put into your video. You really showed the island in its true beautiful glory.
If you want to wind up the posh, nautical types, go to the regatta at Cowes . Then suggest to them that a bridge across the Solent would be a marvelous investment. Then stand back and be lectured lol. I went to the I.o.w when I was about 10, more than 55 years ago, i came back with wonderful memories. Unfortunately I spoilt it all by going back 2 years ago, extremely over commercialised, especially the Needles and a slow rolling traffic jam of vehicles from one end of the island to the other.
It's like being abroad but better. No foreigners spoken like a true English man. That's why people live in the aisle away. It's where the English go to get away from the English
Well that’s one way of looking at it but the reason it was better actually is because no doggy passport required, 25 minutes on the ferry and driving on the same side of the road 😂👍
My favourite island ❤❤❤❤
Thanks for watching Jackie, great place 👍
Great holiday video Dave. Not enough of Helen! We love your bright and breezy videos. Thank you, from Australia (we are in our caravan watching now at 8,15 pm Monday 29 July)
Hi Dot, thanks as always, sadly Helen is not particularly mobile at the moment which is why you didn’t see much of her. Take care, Helen & Dave
Excellent video both... Really brought the place alive. Well done, Dan & Sandra
Hi Dan & Sandra, why thank you very much. We really enjoyed our time on the IOW. Hope you’re well, best wishes, Helen & Dave 👍

Thank you, haha I will be careful with the crisps 😂
Hi Helen I love your cardigan can you tell me where it is from please 😊
Thanks Claire, I actually bought it online from Fashion World. It’s handy on cool nights. Thanks for watching. Helen & Dave 👍
Helen & Dave 👍
great review you certainly covered your steps a day there
Cheers Patricia, I did and thoroughly enjoyed it. Plus, I need the exercise 😂 Thanks for watching 👍
@@HelenandDave Yep, Lyd said Cromer crab is far better
It's only like being abroad if you've never actually been abroad and visited nicer places than this!!
Not in our case, Grenadines, Caribbean, Mediterranean, most of Europe and many more done them all and to us, it felt like being abroad 👍
Hope they can either fix Leeson Rd or get that railway back, otherwise I fear for the future of Ventnor!
Hi Robert, not familiar with the issue, what's going on? Cheers, Helen & Dave
@@robertbrown3413 blimey, sorry to hear that ☹️
@@HelenandDave Yep bad for Ventnor! Only 1 wide road still passable and that (Wroxall Road) is in a mess.
All holidaymakers on the IoW need to keep an eye on this...
Ventnor is lovely shame half of it is falling into the sea. It even has its own microclimate. Plant life thrives there.
Hi Steve, sounds a bit suicidal but would be a laugh. Hope you're well. Helen & Dave
£75! DONT YOU MEAN £7.50 for the Lobster
Bonkers ain't it Roger! We could have got a weeks groceries from Lidl for the price of that Lobster. Never again! Cheers for watching, Helen & Dave
