    I like to see the bikes I can't afford. I also like seeing mid range bikes even the occasional bargain bucket bike like the decathlon ones. GCN is great but too much focus on top end bikes. That been said they should go with what they think is right because you can't please everyone and I like their work.

    A recent gcn episode treaded the price highwire in a more realistic (sympathetic to average consumers) way. A more relatable and engaging viewpoint...careful, they may be studying these off-the-cuff notes of yours for their future direction! (as long as they credit where due).

    GCN are owned by Discovery, who are then owned by Warner Brothers. Its obvious they are more of a marketing tool. Id wager this was also the reason why a lot of the older presenters (and some newer ones who hadnt been there that long at all) left the channel during the transition to Warner.

    Honestly , the prices are high, but $5k for a very mid level bike that I’ll ride for 5-6 years is fine.
    It’s the crazy prices of the little things, like how tires have nearly doubled in cost, for example. I used to be an able to get a 11 speed force cassette for $60-70, now $200-250. Dura ace chain used to be found for $35, now $70….etc

      @@jon6346 my oldest non race bike is a 2017 Himod disc Synapse with Red components and that ran $6500 new, plus it got some carbon wheels since then for another $1800. That was a great investment and have tons of miles and still running strong although is mostly my zwift bike now.
      A new Synapse with Red AxS is $8000, I think that’s reasonable increase in price and the newer bike is much better equipped with thru axles, more modern frame, carbon wheels included, and wireless shifting.

  • @rangersmith4652

    Sellers don't determine prices, and influencers certainly don't. Buyers do, by buying at the asked price or by refusing to. Stop buying bikes that are priced too high, and prices will drop.

    • @Mas421
      @Mas421 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That won’t happen. Because people feel „cool“ when they own a super expensive bike.
      They feel special and better than people with „cheap“ bikes.
      It’s satisfying when everyone can see the „s-works“ or „Dogma“ lettering on your bike, because the initiated know: there is no cheap s-works or Dogma.
      And everyone dreams of belonging to the circle of „15k-bike-riders“.
      Show what you have - show what you can afford. THAT s the game !

      @@jedisdad2265 I did not say prices would drop below cost; I said they would drop. That being said -- again -- if sellers find themselves holding inventory which simply will not move, they will eventually sell at a loss because that's better than continuing to hold inventory that takes up needed space, locks up capital that can't be used for anything else, and depreciates to below cost on their sales floor or in their warehouse anyway. That applies to retailers and manufacturers.

      They address that the general motorist will view a cyclist with a helmet on as 'less-human' which in turn makes for a more abrasive interaction. And it wasn't just a click bait title, in the episode he actually was defending that position.

      If I bang my head against a kirb, with and without a helmet from a 5 foot drop, I am 100% sure without a helmet my head would be in pretty poor shape. • @stuartdryer1352
      @stuartdryer1352 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DavidCraig-er6kq True. And the vast majority of times people come off their bikes no cars are involved. Also, from the original study, the notion that some people find pictures of people wearing bike gear "less human" is a gigantic leap from people's actual driving behavior, and applies equally to all of the kit road cyclists typically wear. Also, the question itself, "less human" is almost going to guarantee the result obtained. It was a bad study, contradicted by years of actual road experience on two wheeled vehicles, and the whole episode was click bait. Some of the content on Cade media is amazing, but some of the takes I'm hearing on these podcasts are increasingly dubious.

    You surely are not a competitor for GCN. You do not do any educational content for begginners, which GCN did and does, and is a big advantage in comparison to other cycling channels on YT. GCN is not only advertising and chit-chat in a plushy chair. If GCN makes an advertising video for e.g. Colnago gravel bike, which cost more than 7.000 euros, then they state it, it is paid by Colnago and that's why this is not a review video. Nobody is forced to buy overpriced und what is more important, over-advertised bikes or parts. We are still free to decide what to buy. And being sceptical does not automatically mean to be wise. I like bike fitting videos from James on this channel, have learnt plenty from them.
