I think this is the year of double hero RB. Top-heavy RBs in a relative wasteland with immense WR, QB, and (comparably to recent years) TE depth. I know the Underdog data doesn’t corroborate but I genuinely feel comfortable starting guys around WR40, for example

Tend to go zero rb strategy last couple of seasons and it’s worked out well for me. Main reason is just due to the likelihood that all rbs on average miss more games than WRs due to injury. I made playoffs in 6/8 and finals in 4/8. Having a variety of different players. Most common theme:
    Drafted WR heavy
Took value at rb ( 1 in top 6 rounds)
Got an elite top 5 rushing QB
Grabbed a top 3 TE everywhere I could. (Granted Laporta blew that up)

    • @KrakkenXXX

    • @suave_d
      @suave_d 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I certainly agree with this.
Drafting a running QB is paramount in a Zero RB scheme because he can make up for some of the rushing production that you cede by not taking RBs early (if the QB has 800-1,000 yard rushing upside, that will be pure golden).
Your strategy is good because you have to find ways to make up for the disadvantage that you'll have at the RB position -- so you have to hit on the other positions and take a rushing QB.

What the video analysis fails to consider and why it’s wrong, is that you can’t look at season long ppg. For example, you go zero RB and get someone like ford or moss or whatever backup. They carried your team when they were starting but they didn’t start all year so their ppg wasn’t that high. When you punt RB in the draft you ideally have strong RBs come season end.

My favorite tool, especially helpful in startups, is the WoRP (Wins over Replacement) tool on Dynasty Daddy.
Because I play in many leagues that use different scoring, TEP, PPC, PFFD, etc. I used to have to crunch all the numbers in my head.
Now the WoRP tool on Dynasty Daddy does all that work for you, and shows you positional values in that league broken down by that specific league's scoring. Very handy!!

Drafted double hero RB the last two seasons with great success. Last year I drafted CMC then Chubb. When Chubb got injured I was able to pick up Kyren Williams off waivers. This year, I will definitely draft CMC round 1 and Kyren round 2 if the opportunity presents itself.

I mean that's a flawed chart. You're not looking at the players in that draft. If 1 player was drafted in round 10 and he averaged 10 points vs 3 rbs drafted in round 4 with a mixed bag of avg points like 9 points csn you really say round 10 was better than rd 4? I’ve been playing for 6 years now. I always go Hero RB. I made playoffs every year other than my first year. Been to 3 championships. Last year I had 2nd pick took CMC and I didn’t take my next RB till Monty which was 6th round. I definitely wouldn’t reach for a RB but I love to anchor my team with RB so I don’t have to worry about my top player. That’s barring any injuries.

Agreed. Hero RB is a strong strat IF you get a hero RB. Last year, IMO there was only 1 Hero RB. So it was either CMC or go a different route.
This year, there are at least 2 Hero RB. CMC and Breece Hall. However, I think Bijan and Saquon both have strong chances to qualify as well. All of the other RBs aren't Hero RB material.

  • @scottharm3932

RBs are about like TEs now in fantasy football.
There's about 4-5 or so at the top of the ranks that are worth going after but the rest aren't much better than playing waiver wire roulette.
I applied this logic to my 2-12 dynasty team going into the 2020 season. I traded away my only decent asset, Alvin Kamara for picks. I completely focused on the other positions. If a good RB falls into my lap, then great, but I'm not chasing RBs like before.
Now, going into 2024, I can say that strategy worked like a charm! I'm the defending league champ. My team is loaded going into the season at every position, I even two good RBs, Kyren Williams and Kenneth Walker.
That would be my advice, treat RBs like they're TEs.

I have played FF for over 20 years and won my fair share in a very competitive league playing for big $$. Yes, draft a hero RB round one and then wait and go back to back RB in rounds 6 and 7. Every year there are 4 or 5 new RB's in the Top 10. You MUST be able to get 1 or 2 of those new top 10 RB's. I grabbed R. White and James Cook in mid-round and that help me get deep into the playoffs then I got unlucky. But every year I am in the playoffs, so I do think it works. Good Luck!

  • @Donnybrook10

In our scoring system, over the past 5 years, there has consistently been 12-14 + 200 pt RBS to 5-6 +200 pt WRs. So, a good argument can be made to grab one of the sure stud WRs first round then grab the RB next round.

I went Tyreke/Saquan/Hall/Fields last year in a PPR. The idea being to get the best pass catching backs I could(who also actually run the ball). Be the first to start a run on a position, if you're the last, you mise as well draft a different position. First two rounds is about floor. Swing for the fences after that. It must work, because I won.

No way I won? Tyreke was the best overall WR to own last year. Hall is a top 5 pick this year, in the back half of the 3rd round. It’s hard for me not to take 3/4 RBs, WRs run much deeper with probably of score a huge play rather than 4 constant RBs 70/80 points from 3 spots a week, easier to get double digit from a WR; I go great TE mid rounds, and multiple QBs mid late rounds followed by potential like K.rob (why I stoped drafting ETN) and V. Jefferson(praying on Pickens, people might be down in the schedule, but tougher may be meaning, throwing to a #1) , C. Patterson versatile and practically rested a year, add on Willy Wilson highkey lowkey, been switching up in my draft going more WRs i understand the huge play potential but it’s about the unexpected undrafted players being drafted and popping off; 5 more drafts till I max out on dfs favorite time of year: not drafting QBs with bye weeks of 14 because I could draft Cunningham who may be featured as a WR/QB hybrid just drafts I’ve been taking chances on even though I like Richardson with Downs

according to 2023 it seems according to the points the best strat wouldve been, wr,wr,rb,wr,wr,wr,wr,wr,rb,rb,wr,wr,wr,rb obviously with qbs and tes mixed in but tbh i love getting one rb in the top two rounds to me its until the etn range, stack the rest of my team with the best values not at rb then draft a bunch of rbs with my next picks

Sounds to me like you want to take more shots at RB, so you have to lock down two WRs early. But that could be Amari Cooper as your 2. There is no replicating a McCaffery / Bijan/ Hall. Elite RBs are still king

I go with a heavy RB strategy.
I draft heavy RB early and get some sleepers towards rhe back end. My roster usually ends up with 5 RBs. Reason being is trade value. There are a lot of good WR's out there but not enough good RB's. Last year I traded Achane for AJ Brown in week 3. Achane was my 8th to 10th round pick, AJ Brown was a 1st rounder. It ended up working out for the both of us, but it's harder to do that with WR's because the trade value just isn't there.

I Drafted Christian Mccafrey 1st overall back to back seasons when he was on the panthers and he got hurt both years
Jonathan Taylor fell to me the year he was the consistently being drafted #1 overall
Then I drafted Ekeler last year with the 6th pick and he single handedly destroyed my team

I go RB early in rounds 1-3… data is misleading…
There are 10 maybe 12 RBs you can reliably count on, not sharing touches… your not getting that production with later round picks
And there is so much value at WR late, and then on top of that you can come back around and still grab the zero RB guys…
Even your stats say 1st and 2nd round are 17 to 15 point guys, compared to 12 in the 4th… that’s a whole 5 points… like a third of the production…
So gamble on the hope and pray guys in the 5th and on???
Hero RB has been best for years now… there is not a lot of guys that are studs any more… who are the one true never come off the field guys

Terrible advice for this year. Why would I fade someone like Derrick Henry in round 2 if I’m unable to get Bijan/Breece/CMAC in round 1. If you look at the data, WR’s have a higher bust rate than RB’s. Hero RB is great but it shouldn’t be limited to 3 guys. You can go WR round 1, Derrick Henry round 2, WR Rounds 3-4, or take another RB in between. All about picking the right player.

    • @northcoasttcg

@muemuemue I mean Ekeler is in a shared role, left LA after he asked for a lesser workload and didnt get it, is getting older and playing with a QB that is going to snake TDs. Same situation with Cook minus asking for less workload. Your rb ceilings are extremely capped if you end up going with then as your 1-2, I dont think 0 rb has ever won bestball mania anyways.

This is not seeing the trees through the forest I bet using these averages is going to result inaverage teams .... If you were to take out the best RB from every round, then.
Take the averages of the remaining totals again. You'll see the dramatic difference.... I think this data is because so many 1sr & second round running backs last year , busted & o c some later aroung running back hit. If you wanna be one of the.Regression to the means kind of guys...then you could expect to see regression to the mean at RB in 2024.
. Specific winning running back strategy.Just take the entire back field on good teams with good running games, its the safest is bet.
A team with a couple of stud wide receivers and alot....! of the cheap running backs ,on good running teams will be hard to bet

Draft strategy is overrated. I won two different leagues last year. One with a zero RB stategy (got montgomery & JTaylor in middle rounds) & the other one with heavy RB (had CMC, Kamara, James Cook & scooped Kyren off waivers week1). Drafting a good player matters more than basing a pick on a specific strategy
