Too late, I already have 8654 and it went wrong. So I looked for installation videos and found yours. The only good news is that this 8654 is compatible with Driveshafts, Steel 8950x. I am from Brazil and the local money is worth six times less than the dollar. I took a loss. Still thanks for the video! It's the only one!
I did the same thing you did but then I kept breaking the axles. So I upgraded to that 8950x steel Drive cups and axles. But if you do that then you do need the 8654 wheel hubs. 17 mm

Use the Traxxas 4147x anodized blue 5mm lock nuts to cover threads. Looks clean and matches the hubs🤙🏼

the 8654 is used with the metal axles along with 7558. If you are keeping the stock plastic axles you do not want these

Get the steel driveshafts for those 8654 when you get widemaxx kit rid of the plastic
Looks like that 8654 that you said doesn’t fit is for the aftermarket steel axles, not the stock plastic ones.
You will need the 8654 axles if you use the cvd setup

My wheels won’t fit there the stock traxxas maxx 1.0 wheels
With those screw type pins you don't need the threaded axle stub anymore. Chop that off and use enclosed wheel nuts, much cleaner
I purchased the wrong one, my hobby shop isn't very helpful but can't wait too get the right one.
I have the new maxx. Lot of confusion with these nuts and part number. Amazon reviews ppl saying 5353x won’t fit new maxx. I bought it this year 2021.
I don’t know why and can’t say for sure if they changed the axles on the current Maxx.
I would bet that they didn’t.
I would order the 5353x.

It is correct but only when you upgrade with the 8950X the steel Drive cups/axles kit
The other ones are for metal axles not stock axles

Not sure......as you can see it worked perfect for me!
It works but it leaves the threaded end of the axle exposed. You need a 5mm capnut in stainless to top it off.

Why can't you use the 8654?? Everywhere says to use them
he is keeping the stock plastic axles. If you are going with the metal CV axles you would need the 8654 and 7758

hmm 17mm socket and ratchet would do the trick... no need that plastic thingy you bought im sure you have a ratchet ?
