    lovely video, I've had my explorer for three years now and I totally agree with you, they are a great bike and I just love the riding position and you're right the grunt of that engine, I've owned over 40 bikes and it's the best standard seat I have ever sat on, my only gripe is the finish in one or two places, but I can live with that, well done triumph!!.

    Negatives: Top heavy. I test rode one with the larger touring windscreen, and at 6’1”, the air on me was completely calm.

    Great to see a lot of the roads on your clip we take out associates doing the IAM advance rider course. Just PX my tiger 800 to the TEX. Won't buy a GS yet, I prefer the triple engine anyway and I have the RT which is great bike but don't tell anyone I said that.
    Keep the video coming ........... loving them

    Brilliant review. I've just bought one and pick up after the year, wont be on the road until Spring but can't wait. How did you find this bike for touring and your business?

      I sold it after about 8 months - reliability was terrible, went back to the dealership 6 times in 8 months unfortunately.
      Riding wise it was very comfortable, engine is very smooth, but it lacks the engagement of the likes of KTM, Ducati or BMW.
      It’s also very too heavy compared to those bikes and less athletic/agile in handling compared to them too

      @@teapotone Thanks for your reply, that's a shame you had problems with it, I've heard this from others but also same with BMW and Yamaha Super 10, hopefully I'll have better luck with mine.

    Got rid of mine after just 18 months. It was stupidly top heavy. With fully loaded panniers and top box it was a deeply unpleasant experience just getting it off the side-stand! Slow hairpins were scary on it as it felt it would drop. Engine was lovely and A road handling planted. Suspension was superb too and it was very comfortable. A great bike spoiled by a far too high C of G plus build quality a bit sus on mine. Electrical problems and weight saw me change mine for a GSA.

    I'm currently running at 26,000 miles and doesn't use a spot of engine oil, no reliability issues what so ever, I'm still on the original brake pads!.

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peter Gunton That's good going! I'm on my 3rd set of pads? Doesn't use oil though certainly.
      I had the water pump fail, the CO2 sensor daily causing the rev limiter to malfunction, the headers come loose, the engine overheat - caused by failing water pump, and a few other bits.

    Great bike, its like sports bike on stilts. weary smooth, pulls in any gear and the note is awesome. Only downside on my 2012 is the suspension, the front was totally stuck and the rear spring too weak. Had the front rebuild, put a progressive spring in the back and she rides like charm. I agree on the breaks, pretty weak for such fast and heavy machine.

    I know you've moved on to a GS now, but my explorer puts a grin on my face every time I ride it. Next time I'm down Maidstone way (visiting the outlaws) I'll let you take it for a spin to remind you what you're missing...

    The xplorer is a great bike but I had shaft failures and that is not good... I am riding an s1000xr now

      I am considering getting a S100xr later this year but after owning 2 GS 's with no end of problems I was wondering what the 4 cylinder BMW was like now that you have had it over a year.

      Hi Alex,
      Not sure when I’ll next get back to God’s country, but hopefully manage at some point in July or August.
      Keep an eye on the Facebook page as I update there a few times a day, and that’s where I’ll post where I’m heading off to on the bike each week 👍

      Good folks, my father has been buying from them for decades, he's currently on the previous XC, had a few electrical faults that stranded him in Spain a few months back. It's a solid machine, but as you say not quite the same as a screaming inline four

    What do you think about a 2014 explorer 2400 miles for $7000usd?? Worth it?

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s low mileage for a 5 year old bike for sure, but I didn’t like the 2014 model (I had one from new). Very top heavy and felt overweight and sluggish compared to a similarly aged GS.

    • @USA01930

      At $7000 a comparable gs model is almost double the cost for me

    Plenty of torque in that motor but KTM have trademarked "The Beast" so you'll need another repetative adjective! Compare to a 1290 Super Adv or GT and you'll enjoy the real grunt of a twin.

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Andy Bacon Think you'll find I was using 'The Beast' a LONG time before KTM 😉
      Yeah I'd love a wee ride of one, my mate has the 1190 adventure and loves it.

    For road use sportbikes dont really serve any purpose aside from looking good and guess thats why most still buy them.. Shop window reflection lovers
