I think the Umbara arc really stands out and is such a superbly written story. I remember seeing it for the first time when it aired and was like... wow, this is so good.

I like how the clones fired, but chose not to shoot their targets. I think it's some subtle foreshadowing for the whole thing about how clones are not able to defy orders at their own will

Rex's assumptions about duty were shaken by two clones who reject their programming: Slick, who declares that the clones are being used as pawns by the Jedi, and Cut Lawquane, who deserted the army to live as a farmer and father. Rex faced a grim test when Pong Krell treated his clone troops as disposable, sending them to their deaths. Rex faced a question he's never imagined: is it his duty to obey orders that will only get his brothers killed?
Rex soon comes to see that duty isn't everything and must decide which values are truly worth fighting for.
Rex will always be my #1 favorite clone trooper.

  • @theduke9292

I notice a lot of people dislike the inhibitor chips, allow me to try and explain why they are necessary. What we’re dealing with is a divide between two different interpretations of clones from two different time periods. Pre the 2008 clone wars TV show, and post 2008
Before the 2008 show clones were depicted as unquestioning soldiers. Those who would obey any order without fail, without hesitation. So when order 66 came down they completed it without any hesitation.
In this interpretation clones are dehumanized, they are depicted as little more than droids who were in on the conspiracy the entire time. The clone characters of this era are underwhelming
This is reflected in the media they appeared in during this time. Think Battlefront 2 Campaign in how the clones state they knew the end was coming and what it’d entail.
The summary of this time period is simple: clones were secretly evil, and they are not free thinkers. (There are obviously exceptions to this, but typically this is how clones were depicted)
    *Post 2008*
However with the release of the Clone Wars TV show clones were fundamentally rewritten and reinterpreted. Instead of unquestioningly obedient soldiers the clones become unquestionably *loyal* a distinct but profound difference.
Throughout the show the clones are recontextualized and humanized. They are shown to be introspective free thinkers who regularly question not only themselves but their place in the world
“What’s the point of all of this?”
“I don’t know sir but I know that one day this wars going to end.”
“But what after? We’re soldiers, what happens to us then?”
This new theme for the clones is established in the very first episode of the series as yoda tells a group of troopers
“In the force all of you are unique.”
Again and again we see the clones express their humanity casting away their numbers and designations taking upon names of their own choosing and taking pride in the differences they choose for themselves.
“The names Fives! I am NOT another number! I AM NOT DISPOSABLE HARDWARE FOR YOU TO CAST AWAY!”
Throughout the show we see the Jedi foster and encourage this behavior fundamentally impacting the perspectives and thoughts of the clones under their command
“We’re just clones sir… we’re made to be expendable.”
    “Not to me.”
The Jedi become more than just their generals, they become their friends, mentors, and in some rare cases… lovers. They become the clones siblings and just as much as any of their brothers. The clones loyalty and dedication is put on full display time and time again, to the point they’d gladly fight and die beside them.
    “Captain Keeli!”
“I’m not finished yet! We can do this General!”
    “Let’s make the end memorable!”
This interpretation of the clones is fundamentally incompatible with the pre 2008 interpretation.
Commander Cody as depicted in the TV show would sooner fall upon his own blaster before he’d harm his closest friend.
The existence of the inhibitors then is a INGENIOUS addition to the story. Not only does it explain why the clones would so callously kill their closest friends but it adds an entire new dimension of tragedy to order 66.
Now the clones have become every bit as much the victims as the Jedi they are forced to kill.
Stripping the clones of their free will and individuality and reducing them to the very things they despised and fought against: unthinking droids.
“Wait! This is wrong and we all know it! No soldier should have to go out like this! We are loyal soldiers, we follow orders, but we are NOT a bunch of unthinking DROIDS! We are NOT programmed! We are MEN and we must be trusted to make our own decisions! Especially when the orders we are given are CLEARLY WRONG!”
Having heard the soldiers say the above, would it make sense for him to kill his general because “orders are orders?” The answer is: *NO*
Thank you for listening to my Ted talk.

I think this Umbara arc shouldn’t be a Jedi & as for Dogma, brothers shouldn’t shoot brothers I don’t care if they are up on treason charges they should be court-martialed first if they are guilty of any crime which they are not. Kill the corrupt Jedi who wants to go to the dark side.
