1:09:29 The last appearance of Ollie and Dan Simpson. It totally made sense for Ollie to want to move. His time spent on the close had brought him nothing but misery.
So Louise goes back to Tom and Joan and leaves the Close for good. Eleanor then leaves Ollie and exits the Close soon after. Followed by Ollie himself and Dan. I like to think, somewhere, up there in eco-heaven, Marcus is looking down, having accomplished his goal, thinking “Take that… BOOK MAN!”
I’m surprised they didn’t give her a proper exit. Like seeing her with her bags packed and waiting for a taxi, or even saying “That’s it, I’m off”. But no, her and Ollie just have another row. He walks off and she looks fed up. And next morning he discovers a “Dear John” letter. Doesn’t it seem anti-climactic?
Ah, episode 2122. The end of Brookside, for me. I know that The Simpsons were divisive among the show's fans, particularly for the initial Nat and Georgia story, but I thought they were one of the all time great Brookside families and carried the last big successful stories before the show declined into a terminal spiral. Even though Nat, Georgia and Bel had long since departed by this point, the additions of Elanor, Louise and Marcus gave Ollie and Daniel a second good story to continue with beyond the breakup of the original family. This episode, where Daniel and Ollie leave, has always stood out in my memory as being the point where I lost interest in the show afterwards. The rot had been setting in throughout 1998, we already had the arrival of the Shadwicks. But once the last remaining members of the Simpson family departed, it marked the end of the golden age of Brookside. [spoilers ahead] Overnight, it suddenly became all about the Shadwicks and the Musgroves, and that tediously drawn out Nicky Shadwick spiking storyline. The characters hadn't been developed enough, the story just went around in a circle for what seemed like forever. The whole show became really repetitive, episode after episode, week after week. The same plots, going absolutely nowhere. Coupled with the equally drawn out Jacquie Dixon surrogacy story, the show became unwatchable. It was also around this time that Jimmy Corkhill jumped the shark, and was being given increasingly ludicrous stories to try and keep his character at the heart of the show. Daniel and Ollie leaving the Close is the spiritual final scene of Brookside to me.
This will be my last if that's the Simpsons away. Dan was the best child actor and character in the show. Shame he didn't get his own back on Mick for slapping him about. Ollie had some classic scenes, especially that one in the family therapy session...
\this will be my last episode too, I really liked the Simpson family by far the most interesting storyline of 96-98 watching a do gooders life descend into madness. I don't mind the Shadwick kids or dad but don't think I've ever disliked a soap character as much as that Margi. Big thanks to the poster for uploading all these
I've just realised that I should have avoided spoilers for future episodes. [I have edited my original post to flag that now.] I won't give away too much here, but this is the point where Brookside started to really fatigue. Because of past success with very long running storylines, they began to take a slow burn approach from around 1999 and stretch out the stories over many MANY months, some even surpassing a year. But everything just started to go around in a tight circle. Nothing ever felt like it was progressing. And once it began to slip, it fell a long way by the time it ended. They just couldn't get the old magic back.
That Louise is a spoilt twisted selfish brat. Turns up out the blue, tries ruining her biological mother's current relationship, takes the huff it's not going her own way then runs off after Ollie forks out 4K to build an extension on HIS house for HER to stay in...
Jimmy said Susan Clarke was in Year 8, yet Emily Shadwick is in Year 10 (she's nearly 15) and claims Susan is in her year - the scriptwriters really don't think things through. Matthew Farnham and Gemma Johnson both started secondary school when they were 10. A few years later Adele Murray was so clever she skipped Year 11.
So remember, back in the cottage, when Marcus told Ollie that he and Eleanor slept together, but implied he might have infected her with AIDS, and she, in turn, may have infected Ollie? I think it was mentioned once or twice afterwards, but yet neither ever mentioned getting tested, let alone actually get a test. Was the overall experience of that day so traumatic that they just forgot all about it? Or was it the writers who forget all about it?

Tim & Emily look so young in that scene in the chippy... strange to think that they would get married a few years later!
23:01 Holy shit!!
So Louise goes back to Tom and Joan and leaves the Close for good.
Eleanor then leaves Ollie and exits the Close soon after.
Followed by Ollie himself and Dan.

Haha yes absolutely
20:11 The last appearance of Elenor Kitson
Thank goodness

I agree. I liked the simpsons

@@ciaranrowe6477 I can't really stand that Margi either. Had to fast forward all the union/factory scenes...

37:48 The very first scene between Tinhead and Emily Shadwick.
The beggining of a great comedy duo, they were made for each other!.

Amen.
But I enjoyed Marcus telling her some much needed home truths when he had them trapped in the cottage.
I miss Marcus.

42:14 😂 improvement there for Lindsay...

Great point. They could have stretched out the storyline and had one of them have HIV. Missed opportunity.
I genuinely thought Ollie had just lost grip of Marcus.
Certainly looked that way the way it was filmed...
Yay Ollie has gone finally!
Ollie really annoys me in these scenes , hes not some mad mass axe murderer and why the guilt? Marcus would of killed him first without a doubt
I don't understand why they tried to portray him as a coward, he stood up to Marcus in the cottage...
Marcus was evil scum in end
Ollie stop saying guilt
The best exit from brookie. Goodbye Olly and Dan 😊
Heather's was way better
