She was neglected just as much as Kieran, so nobody was there to tell her it's wrong. They only had each other, and despite Carmine's abuse, they both care about each other. She's so overcontrolling and against the idea of strangers coming to Kitakami because she's afraid that they'll take Kieran away from her and that she'll be all alone. Which would have likely happened of we told Kieran the truth. Their parents being gone probably gave her abandonment issues, so she wants to keep the one person who cares for her as close as she can, not realizing that it's overcontrolling and toxic. As for the way she gets mad when he tries to stand up to her, I'd say she has anger issues. All of that mixed together, it makes her mentally abusive. But deep down, she just cares a lot about Kieran and doesn't want him to leave her. In the Indigo Disk, she keeps saying what he's going through is just teen angst like in the Teal Mask. But I believe that, unlike in the Teal Mask, she knows what's going on, but she's afraid of admitting that the pain his brother that she loves so dearly feels is partially her fault. And she avoids him while in Blueberry Academy, she probably feels too guilty and tries to avoid him, because she's afraid of being confronted to her mistakes and having to admit that it's her fault. She's in denial, but deep down, she knows. Of course she should have apologized at the end of the Indigo Disk, but I really blame Game Freak for bad writing on that part, not Carmine herself. Because it's clear that for a truly happy ending, she should have apologized and started changing her ways. That scene where she starts crying alongside Kieran would feel a lot more genuine (which it seems is what they were going for) if she did. But instead she doesn't apologize and this scene shows that she hasn't learned a thing. That's bad writing. I really wish we had a path where we immediatly tell Kieran the truth, making Carmine the antagonist and exploring her insecurities.

She says Kieran has an ego but then she bitches and moans about everytime you hit her Pokemon or she brags about how cute her Pokemons are at every turn. The only reason Amarys is even friends with her in first place bc she has a crush on Kieran. After lying to him on festival, you would think she could show some guilt or sadness right? WRONG, instead she SMIRKS like she's pulling a funny prank on him. Also what the hell is that logic she had "If we tell him we saw the ogre, he'll feel left out, so let's actually leave him out." If her excuse is "Night Pokemon is scawwyy ahahudhud" then Kieran himself says he used to go to den every night to get a glimpse of ogre. At the mask scene, she tries to apologize ONLY when she is caught red handed and there is no way to turn the situation into her favor, as soon as tension dies, she goes back to acting like how she was before. Don't believe me, watch it for yourself, she doesn't even show any guilt after 2 seconds. On top of that, she goes "This is so unusual of him acting like that" to "I hate it when he acts like this" which further proves that she pushes him around the edge like this all the time. She could've sucker punched Drayton when he was mocking Kieran while Kieran was busy having a mental breakdown but instead she watched it like everyone else. She talks about protecting him but then doesn't protect him when he's most vulnerable? At Area Zero, she shows her true colors when she screams at his face for NO reason (way before reaching Terapagos) and her passive aggressive comments "About time you're finally helping!" tells me that she is REFUSING to accept the thought of Kieran turned out the way he did bc of her actions. When she doesn't improve in any way or reflect on her actions nor faces any consequences for that and on top of this, she makes her younger brother APOLOGIZE to HER and EVERYONE ELSE, I simply can't like her with all of this bs. If she was supposed to be loveable, then make her loveable, not a toxic person that peoples use the pathetic excuse of "It's siblings being siblings, you don't know that since you never had one" bs.
I even said to my best friend that I was glad that they didn't made Kieran look so edgy when he changed his hairstyle. Guess I was wrong! I don't mind it since I was at that age too. You are as good as you are Kiki! And you too Carmine!
