I love this show so much and Lee Yeon is my most favourite character ever. Also Ji-Ah is an amazing female lead and their pairing is perfect.❤ Though Yeon for sure deserves special consideration and recognition because:- God he’s such a great protagonist, he is smart, he is bold, he doesn’t whine no matter how screwed up the situation is, he actually tries to take the best route for everyone where no one has to sacrifice anything instead of just giving up on his life as a sacrifice like most protagonists do and yet at the same time he doesn’t flinch from the possibility of sacrificing himself if need be. He is brave, he is loving, caring and adorable. He is sometimes cold, always beautiful, elegant yet deadly and ridiculously strong. He doesn’t loose hope, he is a great lord, son, lover and brother. He is forgiving and kind. He doesn’t make excuses, he solves everyone’s problems without complaining. He isn’t the best at dealing with emotions but he tries still even though he’s a pure gumiho and not a human. He is funny, witty and sarcastic. He makes everyone fall in love with him. In this show people from the villain side(Imoogi, rang, traitor, Yu ri etc) try to villainise him all the time. Falsely accuse him and question his intentions. Because the plot wants you to be suspicious of everyone and everything. But then you remember the most critical advice from Nam Ji-Ah ‘Trust in Yeon’ and once you do that, everything falls in place. This just shows how well written Yeon is because the entire plot and the characters revolve around him. He’s the focal point and the fact that this diverse and complex plot can run so smoothly entirely depends upon how good Yeon is and how well he is played. Yeon is the oil that runs this engine(show) without him everything will shut down. He is the one who interconnects everything. He is the reason this show is soo good. I have never seen such a great protagonist in any K drama ever tbh. Kudos to Lee Dong Wook for playing this complex character to perfection. He really is one the best Korean actors undoubtedly.
