    Most importantly, on this Paddy's Day, and from this Irishman, it is to give much respect to the great Steve Thompson - a great of the game and a brave man highlighting a tremendously vital issue. Peace & love Steve ✊️

    amazing how far Irish rugby has come in 17 years! we have gone from DREAMING of beating England at home or away for a Triple Crown to beating the All Blacks at home and away, Grand Slams and World Number 1?! as an irishman who grewup watching so many "close but no cigar" games......its never been a better time to be an irish rugby supporter :) Heres to the dream of a HOME GRAND SLAM tomorrow against England coming to fruition! Comon Ireland!

    Will never forget this game. I had just returned from a 14 months around the world backpacking trip, was sitting in the Westin Hotel, just off Grafton Street with my backpack under the seat with a few buddies welcoming me back. It was a great homecoming event!

    The Green Army celebrated the St Patrick's day, one day after, by winning their last match, in Twickenham, against England, fantastic souvenirs ! An Irish dream team (O'Driscoll, O'Gara, O'Connell, O'Gallaghan, Stringer, D'arcy, Flannery, Horan, Horgan...) !!! The beginning of the Irish rise, 1 year before the Irish blasting and bloody victory, in Croke Park, against England (once again and so symbolic) and 3 years before the second Grand Slam !!!

    I still to this day cannot understand O Gara kicking twice to touch giving England both line outs.

    • @josephlonergan4721
      @josephlonergan4721 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The ref had stopped the clock for the conversion. So when O'gara put it out he thought time was up and it should have been. Refs mistake with the clock.

      He came on as a sub for the last few minutes of a lions game and did it and the lions lost over it.
      It was ironic because he was fronting a lucozade add at the time and the slogan was this gets you through the last 15 minutes. 😂

    My first time ever watching and following Ireland was the wooden spoon season of 1992, the valiant defeat down in New Zealand that same year, and all the other heartbreaking seasons then on apart from some special one offs like the 17-3 defeat and 13-12 defeat of England in 1993 and 1994. Anyway, these are days not to be taken for granted, they are days we could only have dreamed of but never believed, and now they are here, so let's enjoy it and never lose focus of where we have come from and embrace what we now are, truly world beaters!

    Its amazing how much the tactics have changed. Everytime Ireland had the ball against England in 2023 there were 3 dummy pass options. Here, Ireland looked like they only had one or sometimes two options. The phases are slower here and England has enough time to build up their defence after most phases. This rugby feels like it relies a lot more on the abilities of the players rather than the intelligence of a coach creating a truly cohesive team.
    I'm excited to see where Ireland goes from here.
    For the world cup, it sucks that the three toughest teams in my eyes (New Zealand, South Africa and France) will have to be beaten to make it to the semi-finals. And if we do beat them all, our team will surely be depleted with injuries. Also, a lot of our up and coming players are still learning how to cope with nerves. There's a chance we'll win it this year, but I think 2027 is more likely.

    Law 22
    (e) Tackled near the goal-line. If a player is tackled near to the opponents’ goal line so that this player may immediately reach out and ground the ball on or over the goal-line, a try is scored.
    (f) In this situation, defending players who are on their feet may legally prevent the try by pulling the ball from the tackled player’s hands or arms, but must not kick the ball.

  • @Driver2616
    @Driver2616 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Two big mistakes here in the final minutes of this game by England, against an Ireland side which was a man down due to a yellow card. First mistake, Andy Goode taking the penalty instead of kicking for the corner, where England surely would have won a line out and then maul over for the winning try. Second mistake a few minutes later, Andy Goode in his own 22 kicking for touch when surely if England had retained possession of the ball and played through the phases, they’d have maintained control and gone on to win the game.
