Taemin is the GOAT! Back in the day, Taemin was pretty much one of the only two androgynous idols and I'm so glad he kept that aura because he legit likes it. Everyone in SHINee are incredible! I hope you get to see more of all of them, but for the next Taemin reaction I hope you do either WANT or MOVE. ;)

A lot of idols have said that they look up to/was inspired to perform because of Taemin! For example, Taehyun from TXT is a fanboy of his and was so excited meeting him.
While most people know solo Taemin from “Move”, which is iconic, I would also recommend “Idea” and “Criminal”!
SHINee, as a second gen group, has been around for a while (they recently hit 14 years)! It’s wild that you can see how much change has happened in Kpop (the styles, both hair and fashion, and video quality especially 😂). All jokes aside, SHINee has so many banger songs/performances.
Taemin is known for embracing both his masculine and feminine sides. He is absolutely incredible.

The KING!!! I seriously can’t wait for his return. He is amazing.
So, this is actually a trilogy. The prologue is “2 Kids”, but the trilogy itself is “Criminal”, “IDEA”, then “Advice”. All the songs have multiple layers of meanings, but the underlying message and theme is Taemin’s internal struggle between idol-Taemin and IRL-Taemin.
“Criminal” touches on Stockholm Syndrome…being a willing captive to his idol persona. “IDEA” deals with Plato’s Theory of Idea: Form vs Identity…fighting to merge into one true self rather than two halves. “Advice” is basically his mic drop to the industry that has tried to conform him into their perfect idea of an idol, telling them to take his own advice and not push him around, that he’s going to stay true to himself. He’ll get tattoos if he wants (“destroying” his torso) - which is why he finally revealed his beautiful hip tattoo…the smeared makeup…androgynous clothing/hair…female backup dancers. No matter what, he’s going to do what he wants and the more they try to stop him, the faster he’ll shut them down.
Btw, these are my opinions and interpretations, based partially on what Taemin has said himself and my own supposition.

Taemin is an iconic artist, a true legend when it comes to solo discography. Apart from being an incredible dancer and vocalist he’s also a true master of concepts. He’s super involved in every aspect of his music and is widely respected and admired by the Kpop industry. He’s also very aware of his androgynous looks and with time, as he matured as an artist he learned how to make a true asset of it and utilize it to help him create a strong artistic vision and identity. Although don’t expect from him to repeat the same concepts over and over again. He loves experimenting both with his music and concepts.
It would be great if you reacted more to his music. I recommend Move with absolutely iconic choreography, Want, Criminal and IDEA.

I'm not really into Shinee, I just know their biggest hits but I love Taemin and Key solo songs (Key is the one that sings "Gasoline"). Taemin is in my top 3 of best solo artists if he's not my favourite. I love his vocals and his aesthetic. He has this really masculin and feminin vibe at the same time, not only in his looks but in the way he moves. He is also often called the korean Michael Jackson and I think you can see why. I also think that he has some Lady Gaga influence in some of his MVs but that's just my personal opinion.

Taemin was my first bias in my first ult group way back in 2008/09 and watching his growth as an artist and his impact on the industry has been amazing. He really paved the way for male idols to explore femininity and androgyny by taking the beating of a conservative society and coming up proud and successful anyway. He is really the definition of art.

Taemin has one of the best discographies I've ever heard. He's been doing this for so long and even tho in the beginning he didn't like his feminine side because it was forced on to him and or sexualized (at a young age). When he got older he realized that there was nothing wrong with it and embraced it throughout his career especially in his dance (ex:Move) very gender fluid.

super stoked that ur reacting to taemin!!!!!! his artistic, graceful energy and mature, sensual concepts makes him my favorite ksoloist of all time- not to mention his creativity, choreo, and fascinating visuals. i love the way he encapsulates feminine/androgynous energy with his more out there title tracks, but his lyrics really showcase how much of a romantic being lee taemin is. in the performance department, taemin is seriously a MASTER at what he does. i swear he was born for the stage lights. you definitely won't regret getting to know him and his work. so many trends we see in kpop today can be attributed to taemin, as he flies in the face of traditional gender roles and what was 'acceptable' of male dancers in the industry at the time of his debut. in my opinion, taemin's discography is one of the best and fully-realized pieces of work to ever come out of kpop. i recommend checking out 'criminal', 'want', and 'move' for a darker, more hard-hitting soundscape. for a more romantic, rnb adjacent sound i recommend his japanese track 'slave' (all his jp tracks are amazing) 'strings' or 'mystery lover'
I see "Advice" as a continuation of the themes within Taemin's previous Never Gonna Dance Again album trilogy -- "2 Kids," "Criminal" and "Idea." With "Criminal" and "Idea," Taemin talks about being involved in a toxic relationship -- not necessarily a romantic relationship, but a metaphor for his relationship with fame -- in which he agrees to be manipulated almost to the point of being destroyed in order to become the artist we see today. But in the end of "Idea" we see him become free from the box everyone wants to put him in and he comes to terms with his role as an idol. He has now formed his own "Idea" about himself and what it means to be an idol, etc.
As Taemin explained during his VLive event for "Advice", "Advice" is like the end to the first chapter in his life, and the beginning of his second chapter, which will be after he completes his military service. (He enlisted May 30, 2021, and he will be on hiatus at least until mid-November as he fulfills his duty to his country.) The song seems to be his way of saying I am done caring to everyone who judged him and all those haters who spread rumors and misinformation about him. "Advice" is showing that he is now free and confident to be himself, breaking stereotypes and now only listening to himself.
Taemin is just one of those performers that leaves you speechless every time he steps on stage. He was born to be a performer and that is one of the reasons why he has become known as the Korean Michael Jackson. That is also why, as one of the top two performers in the industry, he was made a member of SuperM. Taemin is an Idol of Idols and a legend of legends.
And the title of the industry's BEST dancer isn't just a fan's opinion but it's a widely agreed upon title bestowed on Taemin by his peers and the industry as a whole.
In "Advice" he's basically saying, "Stop trying to put me in a box, in which I'll never fit in." He is also speaking to everyone that says he's getting old, that he's just a Michael Jackson wannabe that doesn't sell a lot of albums because he tries too hard to be edgy, etc. He's rebelling against all those people who are constantly advising him to make more mainstream music or to follow the traditional Kpop idol style in order to boost his sales and his popularity. However, as Taemin is making clear in "Advice," that is not who he is and he will never be "normal" or "mainstream" and he is OK with that.
In the scenes where you see him covered in ink, I think that is supposed to be him showing everyone how he is no longer the "unstained," cute maknae everyone wants to think of him as. The diamond you see painted on his hand when he is playing the piano, and you see drawn on his bicep, etc. is SHINee's official symbol. (The large tattoo on his hip is real. Hence why in the lyrics he says, "I destroy the torso that you were chasing after." He's tired of people thinking they even have a say in what he does with his body.)
This song was specifically designed to not be like anything he has ever done before. He plays the piano, he raps, he shows off his falsetto notes, etc. which is different than what we often hear and see from him. He intentionally used this song to prove that he isn't one type of singer. People often think of Taemin as a sultry vocalist that sings in a breathy comfortable less dynamic style. So, with this song he wants to prove to everyone that he can be unpredictable and try new things. Yet again, you can't put him in a box or tell him who to be. Everything you see in this MV is 100% Taemin, including the piano playing.
Everything that Taemin's haters like to point out about him and say are reasons why he shouldn't be held to such high esteem, I find completely ridiculous. I don't think that anyone who actually knows him would ever say he has played it safe at anytime in his career. If you think he is only one dimensional, and that he is trying to be anything other than himself, then you really don't know Taemin. Everything he does is different, out there and definitely not safe. It's always uniquely Taemin, and he couldn't do it any other way.
Also, because Taemin is a member of SHINee, none of his songs are ever like anything you have every heard or seen before from him. It will always have a new beat, style and sound. As SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, SHINee is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend, and that includes the members' solo work. With every new song Taemin produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from him in any of his songs, even on the same album, and yet, it still will be uniquely Taemin-like. Which is another example of how you can never put him in a box or expect anything from him. :D
Another theme in "Advice" is about how Taemin is embracing his androgynous side -- but on his own terms -- which I think is a continuation of the message in his "Move" MV. Early in his career when Taemin was growing up in SHINee he was known for his feminine look. It took him a long time to accept that he was known for his looks and to come to terms with the fact that everyone thought of him as a "pretty boy," etc. So, at this point in his career he is making a statement about how he has decided to be himself and no longer care what people think. Music is art and art has no gender. So, that is why in "Advice" you see him wearing hair extensions, fishnets and women's Supreme sports wear, etc. But if you notice, his choreography is very fast paced and sharp which is hyper masculine -- a complete contrast to the "feminine" image people want to give him. You also see him wearing makeup, but it's smeared on his face, as if to say, "people may think of me as a 'Pretty Boy,' but I don't care about looking pretty."
In the lyrics he is saying, "It's creepy how people are always looking to cause drama, so stop trying to create scandals in my life that don't really exist. It's all just stories you make up." He's tired of all those people who seem to look for reasons to cause drama, where none really exists.
Where he says "floppy" in the lyrics, I think he's talking about knowing about or hearing firsthand the things people are saying about him, but he is choosing not to pay attention to them because what they're saying is flopping or doesn't hold any weight or have any substance, etc. "Advice" just proves that everytime people try to put Taemin in a box he destroys it and keeps coming back with something more unique and never seen before.
Hence, why in the choreography he puts his hands in front of his face and creates a movement that looks like an animated mouth talking. It represents how everyone keeps talking about him and what they are saying is nonsense, which makes them look and sound ridiculous, etc. Which is why in the lyrics he says, "You will never get the keys to my lock" because he doesn't ever plan to give people what they want and allow them access to his secrets and personal life, etc. (Those people who like to gossip about him will never truly know the real him.)
I interpret the "One (piece of ) Advice" he is talking about in the lyrics as a reference to the advice he keeps being given about being more mainstream, but he's saying, "stop trying to make me conform to the image you have in your head of who I should be and what I should do" -- in other words, take all that time and effort you have been using to come up with ways to talk about how I don't fit in, etc. and put it to better use. "Follow my own advice" and do something original for once.
As a devout Catholic, Taemin often uses Biblical references and metaphors in his songs and MVs. And the crucifixion pose at the end of "Advice" is sort of a signature pose for him. I interpret it to be like he is saying, "And that is the end, this is my final word, take it or leave it, but don't doubt me. I have gave it my all and laid everything I had out there for you," etc.
If you are impressed with Taemin's dancing in this MV, just wait until you see him dance live, as well as his dance practice video on SM's new SMP Floor channel. You will be even more blown away. As I said, Taemin is on a whole other level.

Besides Stray Kids Taemin is my next favorite. He’s in military service right now, but he gets out in the spring.
Taemin is one of the best performers in South Korea, he has strong vocals, dances like a god and is not afraid to be androginous in his moves and style. My favourites from him are Move, Flame of Love (the japanese version, not the korean), Sexuality and Criminal. I hope you eventualy react to more of his songs.

I don't really follow Shinee but, I love Taemin as a solo artist! I am a Stay, Felix is my bias and Hyunjin my wrecker, and I found Taemin to be like a combination of both. Adorable with a kind smile like Felix and sexy and sensual like Hyunjin... So of course I had to have a crush on him! He is so talented, love his songs and his dancing. I recommend ''Want'', ''Criminal'' and ''Idea'', although you will most likely love every one of his mv!

I just really love how a lot of male idols wear stereotypically “feminine” clothes like skirts and crop tops, masc-presenting people look really good in “feminine” clothing in my opinion! Just like fem-presenting people look amazing in “masculine” clothing.
I honestly HATE the way a lot of people gender pieces of fabric.
I’m pretty okay with my gender but honestly I’d say I feel gender envy when I look at Taemin. It’s the way he has such an androgynous look and he looks good in both masc and fem clothing. The way he is comfortable with such a style I wouldn’t feel surprised if he ever came out as gender-fluid or non-binary.
(I don’t mean to say that cis people can’t use this style of clothing by the way, I firmly believe that anyone should wear what they want and feel comfortable with, regardless of gender identity, as long as it’s appropriate of course.)
I want to try and help change that stereotype in the future, since I want to become a designer and hope to some day open a store, my current plans are to create a queer safe space, and I am thinking about separating the clothes by style and not by the typical “men’s” and “woman’s” section…
It’s something that I won’t be able to do for now since I’m still a student, but that’s my life project I’d say.

Taemin is seen as the best dancer in kpop. He's so iconic. The top 3 best male dancers in kpop:
1. Teemin (you're right, he's from Shinee)
2. Kai (EXO). I recommend checking out his songs Mmmh and Peaches
3. Ten (NCT) I recommend checking out his songs Birthday and paint me naked
Why is it necessary to recommend Kai here? This is a Taemin reaction video. And btw even though they are friends, they have a huge level difference regarding their solo careers. Taemin has a dance style so unique, that if he would dance behind the courtain and the only thing the audience would see is his silhouette it would be still obvious that it's Taemin, he is a whole new genre. Taemin is an artist acknowledged by the industry.

Kai is a good dancer who gets a few albums because of the income his huge fandom provides. His specialty is that he makes an unnecessarily lot of facial expressions. While Move's iconic choreography made a huge impact on the whole industry, Mmmh is just a mediocre version of it (slow, sexy hip movements, only difference is that it's not side-to-side, but front-to-back, female backround dancers..etc).
This is why everybody thought about MOVE when they saw MMMmmm, so recommending Kai below Taemin's video is like recommending the cheap knock-off instead of the real brand.
Ten is different, Taemin would also recommend him!

Taemin is my SHINee bias and I fell in love with him and his voice ever since I got into them and he reminds me so much of Jimin (one of my other ult biases) so much in just the way he moves during choreo and the way he sings.

Thank you. I am so glad you found Taemin. I got into Taemin when he was doing a lot of solo songs because his other band mates where in the military. I didn't even know at first he was from a group. He was my first solo idol when I finally ventured out from stray kids. Love his so much he is my ult bias of all k-pop right there with Felix. He is a natural born entertainer. I love his tone and vocals and for some reason my ult song of all of kpop is his Japanese song and m/v for Sayonara Hitori. But he has so many more b-sides that are amazing. For your information, TAEMIN is also good friends with Jimin from BTS and Kai from EXO. He’s been in the military for the last two years and is due to get out this month. Whether he returns is still in the air I haven’t found any information about it. If you want another good artist, I suggest watching Ten’s new MV Birthday. He’s my ultimate bias from WayV. I think his return had to be delayed by a couple of months because he had to transfer out of active duty to civil service. :( he's due to be released in I think February now, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Other members of Shinee dress gender confusing, it makes watching enjoyable so different.
I cannot listen to Shinee because of what happened to one of the members, but I love love Taemin and he did a lot of real good songs. He was in the military until... I don't know the exact date, but he should be out real soon. He also reminds me a bit of Felix, they have some similar face features or expressions I can't exactly tell.
