When it comes to colour, theres a lot of information out there on the internet, and I wanted to share the steps I took myself to understand what colours might suit me. As well as sharing the steps I took to create my colour palette (which was the missing link to finding my style!) However, I am not professionally trained in this area. I have only just started my seasonal colour analysis education, so I didn’t go deep into this in today’s video. In the description, I have linked resources that I found helpful from people who ARE qualified in these areas.
💕SIDE NOTE: Don’t stress yourself out too much about finding the ‘right’ colours, I honestly think one of the blue’s I have in my wardrobe isn’t exactly the perfect shade of blue for me, however I love it and I feel great when I wear it, so that’s the most important thing! This topic can be overwhelming, don’t overcomplicate it for yourself and get stuck in ‘analysis paralysis.’ X 💕

One problem??? Just because we have the perfect colour palette doesn't mean we can actually find the clothes in those colours. My colours are soft and cool but most clothes are bright or neutral.

    • @EmilyElizabethMay
      @EmilyElizabethMay  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Oh yes this is such a good point. It can be sooo much harder to actually source the exact colours!!
I heard someone talk about it once, saying that they understood and accept that in summer they couldn’t buy many clothes and in winter they could buy more. But some years, even in winter the right colours weren’t on trend for them and they just had to accept it.
I think finding common neutrals that suit you for those moments is probably my most helpful advice at this time 🩷

Also, finding brands like Colourful Standard, that do lots of different ranges of colours. And just spending a lot of time searching online.

I hear you! I've only recently been able to find pieces in the shades of green and yellow that work best with my skin tone because until recently pale greens were mint green not sage and the only pastel yellow seemed to be lemon which has far too much blue in it for me.
It's worth looking second-hand for things, and being patient - if a colour has been popular once, it will be again and in the meantime it'll be available second-hand in charity shops, Depop, eBay or Vinted.

YES you are so right! So when you do come across something in that color, GRAB IT!!!! For many years, here in Japan, green wasn't very popular and never in muted or pastel hues. Then suddenly, about two years ago, green flooded the market, especially a soft mint green which is the color of my eyes. I made sure to pick up many pieces that I am enjoying even now, when that color is no longer on sale!!

This was incredibly helpful, Emily. I love colour in my wardrobe, and agree that having around 9 or 10 is a great number. Your new blouse is so flattering on you and has so many of your colours in the material. What a great find. Thank you 😄. This series is amazing ❤

    Great advice!!
So I did the vein color test a while ago and came to the conclusion that my veins are bright light blue. But that didn't feel right at all. I didn't associate my feautures with either cool or bright.
So: I took a picture of my face and put it into canva and estracted (or whatever the word is) my natural colors from the photo and realized that my colors are warm and muted and after some research i came to the conclusion that I am a true autumn.
I told my mom about it and she looked at me and just shook her head and pointed out that I am have copper red hair and that I tan easily and have more freckles than most people have brain cells... so why go through so much trouble to find out the obvious - that i am a warm, muted color type.
So I guess my tip here is don't overthink it and also, keep your momma in the loop 😂 cause they knoww

Another great video Emily! 🤗Knowing our season is very helpful to stick to a color palette that suits our skintone and avoid bad purchases. I am a cool season and I am naturally attracted to the colors that suit me the most. Love your blouse! 😍I found a similar one in burgundy with navy blue flowers online a couple of years ago for 5$ US. I still wear this blouse every fall and winter. My favorite color is navy blue so it matches my navy blue skirt, pants, blazer, etc. 🥰

Thank you so much for making these series. I struggle recreating what I have in mind and I think this will help get my thoughts and vision straight. Downloaded your workbook so I am curious about the whole process :)
The only thing I'm missing (and maybe you will address this on your subsequent videos) is how to pick and combine shoes to match our outfits. Personally, picking the right shoes holds me back from truly daring to try the styles I want because I inevitably end up wearing snickers over an over again with more or less the same outfit style. It can look very boring. Any advice on that is very much appreciated!

Shoes is something I didn’t include in this series, but I realise it probably should have been included so I definitely intend to make a video about choosing the right shoes asap (following the series).
Thank you for sharing this with me!
I hope you enjoy the series and let me know what you think of the workbook. Is designed to help you self-reflect and hopefully learn. Which is what I did myself. I hope it’s helpful! X

Try the theory of the "wrong shoes": you always choose a pair of shoes that is compleately unexpected (eg elegant shoes to e casual outfit and vice versa sneakers to e more elevated look). That makes every outfit more interesting and brings a lot of fun in putting pitfits togehter!

This was very helpful. I always thought I was warm-toned because I like many fall colors, and they suit me. But there are also cool tones that are flattering. And I prefer silver jewelry over gold, and can wear either. Now I suspect I'm a neutral. That makes more sense.

i recently found your channel and love your thoughtful, well edited videos! I've been on a style journey recently and having my "colors" evaluated by Created Colorful was so helpful. I'm drawn to colors that don't look good on me (gray, black, light blue and white stripes) and for years bought these items and wondered why i felt blah when i wore them. Now i know that I'm a soft autumn and instead buy soft browns, greens and terracotta. This has made shopping SO much easier and when i do cave and buy something not in my color, i almost always end up donating it because i never feel good when i wear it.

Such a good and interesting video!
I love it so much to play around with colours, at home as well as with my wardrobe, but - as already mentioned - the real problem is to find the right shades of certain colours! Blue is not blue and green is not green! So I often ended up buying "wrong" shades of colours just because the right one for me wasn't available. So in the future I really will take care to buy only if I REALLY like the colour at a 100%!

Great series. I just updated my palette. I have colors for Spring/Summer and another palette for Fall/winter. As a deep winter, I’ll wear the darker version of my colors in Fall/Winter and less strong versions in Spring/Summer. Light neutrals are difficult for me. I only like white near my face. I Really don’t like white bottoms. Stone color is okay, but very hard to find. Thank you Emily. 😊

3:18 - the colour palette I have been building over the last couple of years or so has those _exact_ shades of terracotta, yellow and olive green in, as well as a couple of pieces in a dusty rose colour and some sage green. (Yep, I'm a warm-toned Autumn). I am so glad that the colours that are on-trend right now are more warm-toned, it's been really hard to find a good sage green and banana or honey yellow; until recently the light greens were more mint and the pale yellows were pretty much lemon, both of which look awful on me!
