This was the best Locher Room yet. I was on the production staff during this time and Jay was one of my favorite people. Susie was as beautiful and real as she is in this interview. So honest and revealing - takes me right back to those wonderful (and sometimes turbulent) times.
This was another good blast from the past with former GL stars. Susan Pratt was candid which always gives insight to behind the scenes in the business I actual watched Susan on GH, GL and AMC back in the day.
Wow!!! What memories of two great actors! We loved fletcher and Claire. What a shame the show ruined these characters and didn’t give the fans a supercouple experience. Thanks for being so great in your roles.
Love Susan's honesty in this. So many of the stars tow the line and she told it like it was. Soaps are pretty much dead and not coming back so speak the truth, there aren't jobs coming back.
I personally think all the stars have been honest in Alan's interviews. Some of them where with old buddies they haven't seen in years and were just to busy laughing and remembering all the good times. Doesn't mean they were purposely holding back on the negative stuff. It's possible their past grievances weren't hurtful enough for them to care anymore. Also very different personalities, experiences, popularity, and perceptions make up people's own reality of the truth and not necessarily universal facts.
These have really helped make quarantine life bearable. Another great episode. I wasn't around for Fletcher and Claire. But I do remember Fletcher and Alex and always loved Susan on AMC. Love how honest and candid they both were and the obvious mutual respect.
I don't have many memories of clair. I think her role was bigger before my time. But I remember fletcher. Ross and Fletcher should have been on tbe show til the end imo.

Claire and Fletcher (and Claire's character) weren't ruined by Long, Curlee, or McTavish. The show was a holy mess between Jan 86 to June 87 with 6 different head writers, starting with Jeff Ryder. Claire Ramsey was a victim of all that chaos, and was pushed off the show just months before Long returned in July 87. Pam Long created Claire, I always felt she would have redeemed Claire if Susan had still been on the show.
So who do we think would be most likely to ruin Claire's character and send her off packing since Pam may have gotten jealous seeing those lovely steamy scenes in Barbados? I would be.
@Hunni Bunni: I totally agree. Beverly effortlessly commanded every scene she was in. I only recently, have started to watch her work on TEXAS as Iris. True to form, she brought sophisticated wit natural class and quiet power to her scenes. I especially love her 1991 work on GUIDING LIGHT.

Nice stroll down memory lane. Loved Jay's comment about being a fan of fans! Susan didn't like Claire's dark storyline, but that story about a mother wanting to do an unspeakable thing to her child was way ahead of its time...and I think it's one of GL's most important stories. Hopefully Susan will revisit her feelings about Claire's legacy on the show and realize what a special role she played in GL history.
I didn't see the storyline, but it's interesting to see that Susan was offended and took the change so personally. Usually actors love the chance to do something dramatic and edgy especially if they don't normally get that kind of material. Seems like Susan wanted her characters to be or stay the way she envisioned.
@@nruss Jay's wife was head wriiting at the time, That pool scene was much hotter, then they described, it was classic and better done than most movies. I think Jay's wife got jealous. Very soon after, Claire and Fletcher were done. Susan Pratt is right, she got screwed over by the change in her character. It was clear to me as a viewer back then, and I was only in my late teens /early twenties. Because Jay never had the heat with the other actresses he had with SP.
Please tell Jay Hammer that he will always be loved for his role as Allan Willis from The Jeffersons. I can still hear George Jefferson telling Allan that he’s a Zebra 🦓 lol 😀😂 .

Susie said everything I’ve been thinking all these years. No offense to Maeve but Claire/Fletch were the best! I hated they ruined her character. I’m so sad to hear she didn’t enjoy the experience.
Had I ran into Susan before seeing this I would have said how disappointed I was with the writers for changing Claire so drastically. She got to go from virginal Annie losing it as well after Jeff dumped her to passionate Claire, and I thought she was an exciting character. She could have been chief of staff at Cedars had they written her better. Glad the other fans are feeling the same way!
The 1st episode I watched on GL was Annabelle in the tunnel finding a doll? Or was it a music box??? The gal playing Annabelle was also in a Ken Wahl movie called The Favor.
I don't like how the writers basically turned Claire into a "bad mother" and a "crazy person" after she gave birth to Michelle. These days, it would probably be called postpartum depression. Not only did she have to give up her daughter to Ed and Maureen, but she also lost her relationship with Fletcher. No offense to Ed and Maureen, but the writers didn't have to portray Claire as a bad mother, and they could have found a way for her and Ed to co-parent their daughter.
Nobody was pranked. The Patty Duke Show was recorded in the same studio that GL later recorded in. Patty Duke had to film the sitcom in NY because she was a minor when it began, and NY labor laws weren’t as strict as California’s.
BTW, for anyone interested. The 1970 film The Boys in the Band was also filmed in the same Chelsea studio as GL and Patty Duke. Netflix just dropped the updated version last night with soap stars Tuc Watkins (OLTL) and Matt Bomer (GL).
They made her out to be a bad mom on GL and then a bad girlfriend and babysitter by sending little laura to cross a street and getting hit by a drunk driver and eventually dying . Poor Susie lol
Susan Pratt as Barbara Montgomery had the best bob hair cut of the 80's it was perfection !! She gave queen la Lucci a run for her money!!
