Quite few steps missing: take the strings out, after brushing give a saddle soap wash, then get some leather conditioner in , let it 24 hrs to absorb it, brush then give some leather cream on and brush, use the hands or some rug to put the cream on not the polish brush…..give some proper love to the workboots they are your helping
