The power of in engine cutscenes baby. No whiplash going from pre rendered to in game like so often nowadays. Just a seamless experience. Plus in games like reach you can even see your custom armor. Can’t do that with pre rendering a cutscene without tremendous work.

The soundtrack gives me PTSD vibes like a heart racing with pure adrenaline and as Chief answers arbiter's question: "worse" matches the soundtrack of your nightmares coming back to you while you just think "oh my god.. it's happening again," all the while under pure stress, fear, and a want/need for survival.

I remember the dark times when I thought *this* was how they introduced the flood to the halo series. Nonetheless, this has to be the best version of the flood. In fact, I wasnt even scared of this level as a kid. The ones that got me were the massive "beehive"-like caves.
I was 9 years old and 3 was my first halo game. Having been an avid player of resident evil at that point, I was not a stranger to zombies.... But this... Seeing the one marine get swarmed and turned into a combat form... I fired my assault rifle until they stayed down
I have the exact memory still in my head of me playing halo 3 with my older brother and i got to this mission and was terrified as soon as i dropped into the cave with all the fleshy stuff on the walls. I dropped the controller and my brother said he'd never let me play on his xbox again if i didn't keep playing 😂

I dont remember much about this campaign. I was a little kid playing mostly multiplayer with my family or seeing them play, but one of the few missions I did play with my older brother was this one, and even now, 10-12 years later, I still remembered it vividly as soon as I remembered the Floods existence. Currently playing through the entire series campaign with MCC after only ever beating Halo 4 and 5 campaigns by myself; cant wait to reach this level.

I can see it crawling, sliding around beneath their SKIN, then they got up..and started to talk..OH GOD!! lol that guy always made me laugh because he KNEW how bad the situation really was.
Yeah Rtas is a great character, the graphic novel about the Infinite Succor details his first meeting with the Flood and why hes obsessed with destroying all trace of it. Worth a read if you havent yet
I remember, I was playing this mission with my brother in difficulty legendary, and at this part 4:42 when the elites cmae to help, during the little cutscene the flood kill all and my brother was like NOOO WAYYY!!! THEY GOT KILLED BY THE FLOOD DURING THE CUTSCENE!!!! And trust me, they all died during the cutscene, bc it was in legendary, so me and my brother went to where the elites fell, and they were all dead and some of then already infected xd
Yeah, the combat continues during the cutscene on legendary and they won't survive it. Though it is possible to save all of the elites on legendary if you skip the cutscene. I usually just fight with them into the building and then block off that one small door with a deployable cover. That way I can just kill everything else without them risking their life lol.
I never got to experience Halo 1’s amazing flood intro. However as a kid with no previous halo experience, I feel a little lucky that this was how I was introduced to the parasite. Disfigured terrifying monsters dropping from the rooftops, transforming the marines that my 10 year old self was so comfortable fighting alongside. I couldn’t beat this mission the first or second time I tried it. I was too terrified. Looking back I appreciate how eventually I was able to overcome such an abrupt introduction to these monsters.

when chief left cortana on high charity the ark hadn't even been mentioned yet, so how did cortana have knowledge of the arks existence? I know cortana had been left in the control room during the first game and gained lots of knowledge about the ring itself but again, she didnt mention, nor did any other character in the game mention the ark prior to the end of halo 2. perhaps the gravemind told her of its existence while they spent time together on high charity..? but then again why would it tell her?

The Elites you see helping you fight the Flood? They're assault class, and they aren't immune. If the Flood either take their shields down or kill them, both of which which are very hard for them to do, the Elites are vulnerable to infection.
In addition, they are Minors with one Major (The one who speaks to the Arbiter after deployment is the major.) Plus nothing biological is immune to the flood unless you have some boren syndrome shit, like johnson had i guess.
