It's neat watching an experienced player start over. I love watching your runs with a maxed file, but it's great to see your thought process and how you approach runs when you're not overpowered and trying out "fun builds"!
IN the greek myths it is said that eating pomegranates forces you to stay in the underworld, but in Hades it is implied that this is just something they make up, so that Demeater does not force her daughter to return to Olympus,after the feast. Nyx mentions that being bound to the underworld was part of the deal Hades made to become the ruler of the underworld and this has been passed down to Zag, but This is never mentioned in Greek myths as far as I can tell, and seams to be inspired by Egyptian and other mythology which often has Gods of the underworld having to die or sacrifice their ability to have kids to become God of the Dead.

I don't think it was a joke. We already know that Hades still loves Persephone, as he has her picture in his room; I suspect this was his way of just sort of saying... hello, remember the old days? The court, and the garden; Orpheus singing, and having drinks in the lounge, and our dog that we both loved, Cerberus?
Interestingly, I've lived this, years before I ever played Hades. I once rescued a small kitten on a first date with a girl, ages ago. Named him Pip, a little orange guy. In time, she moved to another state for veterinary school and we stopped speaking. After some years, I met someone who, by surprise, knew her as well. I couldn't say "hey, when you see her next remind her of that hickey I gave her on our second date," or "ask her if she remembers that gift I gave her for Christmas."
I told the guy, "When you see her next, tell her Pip's okay." An easy way of saying, "remember when?"
I agree! I think she really loved Cerberus (which you can also see when she finally comes back to the house), and Hades knew that. He also knew she probably wasn’t gonna be super stoked to hear from him, so maybe it was just like, “here’s something I can say to her that will actually be worth saying, something that will actually give her joy.”
Demeter’s boon that increases healing does impact Cthonic Vitality.
4:45 personally i really don't like when a video spoils if they win or reach their goal or what not, it almost always stops me from clicking on it but that's just me. i really am liking this series of you replaying the game though and good luck!!

Agreed, but then again, just a quick glance tells that a 53min run most likely succeeded.
I don't think of support fire as hugely powerful, but at the same time... in a random elysium room, you have ~55% of your damage from the attack and dash strike, support fire about 13%. You picked up a 10% urge to kill earlier so that's 5% of the 55%. So it's 2.6x more dps than urge to kill in this room.
Or another way to look at it, un-pommed common support fire was adding 13 for every 55 damage of your attack or close to 25% extra damage. It doesn't compare to damage from the dash but it also doesn't take up a slot so that makes sense.
In the myths, yes, it was the seeds of the pomegranate that keeps Persephone in the underworld. In this game though?

The pomegranate thing ends up being a ruse by Hades and Persephone to explain her eloping to the underworld to the other Olympians. Zagreus is bound to the underworld likely as an inheritance of Hades' duty, being one of the chthonic gods.
Hmm I thought Zag was bound to the underworld because he was a still born baby and Nyx revived him.
But being bound by birth right sounds plausible as well.
One thing that really cheeses me about removing our access to Greece post-credits is that it also removes access to another shot at the fishing points there, too. Granted, I still would just like to enjoy the scenery, but that just adds salt to the wound.
If I remember correctly, the chance you get a fishing point in Dad Arena+Greece = the chance of getting a fishing point in the Dad Arena after Greece isn't available
I'm not 100% sure about it, but I did get more fishing points in the arena after my 10th win, so anecdotally... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Since you're creating an explicit series, the numbered thumbnails are nice, especially since putting such info in the title seems to not play well with the algorithm.
I can confirm that Nourished Soul does indeed increase the health recovery from Chthonic Vitality. Took the boon while near death at 37 hear, and I went from +2 health per room oscillating between +3 and +4 health,
oscillating? wow I had no idea it saved up fractions of a health point for you, I never noticed it before
I remember my first time plaiyng which was way after the game was fully released, I remember the Asterius Mini Boss fight being the biggest road block that I somehow kept walking into Run after Run. I'd get absolutely railed throughout Elysium and then I have to fight the 10ft tall Minatour built like a brick shithouse and getting slammed into the ground every run, it got so bad that I eventually put on God Mode which I kept on until I beat Hades the first time.
I played Hades first in 2021 on Xbox Game Pass. Last week I finally managed to buy it for myself on steam and I'm having a lot of fun. Back in 2021 I was watching one cool youtube who was making Hades content and I'm really happy that 3 years after that I managed to find you again without any trouble and that you are still rocking.
Loving this series so much already. It's a real treat to see the thought process for what you go for early and the bit of insight from the DPS overlay is really interesting. Thanks for doing this.
One funny thing I noticed when I started a new playthrough is that if you reach Styx far too quickly before the story progresses, the dialogue at 30:16 doesn't make sense because Zag doesn't even know Persephone exists yet.
Zagreus knows; that scene where he finds out about Persephone takes place before the first escape attempt. It's a flashback when the player sees it.

Number thumbnails are good because it helps show progression and you dont number titles.
I had never played Hades or seen any content of it nor had I ever played a rogue like game of any kind before but I started playing it last week and I got my first escape on my 47th attempt (probably quite slow but I took a while to learn a lot of the basic movement and mechanical stuff for this type of game). I started watching some videos and stuff about different builds after I got my first clear.
15:15 that would actually be an interesting challenge for Hades 2 among streamers. Obviously people could cheat and play on another profile, but it could be a done as a gentleman's agreement. Or it could be done marathon style RTA, first person to beat a run after the game has been released and you stream to prove it.
Not only should we have been able to go back to Greece, but Mom should have shown up as a Goddess to give us new Boons on our runs since she had to go back and forth between Olympus and the House of Hades postgame.
24:00 for me it doesn’t really feel like the game is stacked against you artificially, but more like it waits to introduce new concepts, I feel it’s more of a way not to overwhelm new players too much, and because they don’t really expect you to make it far, or win in the first couple of runs (because you’d still have to learn attack patterns and you don’t have any of the meta stuff unlocked) it wouldn’t hinder any player - I think that that’s probably the thought behind it
22:00 I like Support Fire cos it will strip the armour off a room full of weaker Elite enemies, or stray Exalted souls, making tidying up busy rooms a lot faster.
I'm a fan of titles that don't give away the end of the video. It keeps a bit of suspense especially with close runs. Also numbering the thumbnails is a good call. It will give context with just a glance for people viewing these years down the line.
Not sure if anybody has mentioned it yet, but Wells of Charon start showing up on run 2 and I encountered Sisyphus on run 2, not sure about Eurydice of Patroclus though.

23:00 About what it seems to be an artificial way to prevent the player to win early : I guess it's more a newby-friendly game design choice, to not overflow the player under tons of new stuff and synergies to grasp.

I don't think I mind if the run is spoiled in the title but I think the little bit of ambiguity makes the run more interesting especially in close calls especially early on, however I feel like there does come a point in hades where you already know you are winning every run unless the heat is at a certain point and at that point I doubt the title does anything unless you state you lost?

I had no prior experience with any roguelike game or dungeon crawler and I definitely did not have experience with such fast paced games XD
So I’d say my first save file is pretty much organic and I beat Hades for the first time I think on my 68th run XD with god mode.
And I beat Meg for the first time on my 15th run.
I’m pretty sure that on my first run I didn’t even reached the miniboss😅

do you think the best meta progression in the game could be Fish? they seam to give more darkness and gems than a single room reward gives and you can even get titans blood from the over-world fish.
Bestie I hope someone's reminded you that you get the coin purse from Hypnos, not Charon. I made that mistake when I started my second save file and I was so annoyed

edit: also no, the pomegranate thing was a thing persephone made up for the olympians. its just a matter if you're born a chthonic god or not. than can also not stay on the surface for very long. which is why i'm confused bc melinoë seems to be coming from the surface. i'm wondering if she was accidentally born on the surface and can't remain in the underworld. we'll see

Hades and Dead Cells are 2 of my favorite games ever.
There are things I like and dislike about both. I definitely dislike how Hades nerfs the first handful of runs. It discourages me from doing (casual) fresh file runs while in Dead Cells I enjoy it and have done it many times.
Feel like in these types of videos a spoiler would be pretty annoying also that noise at 30:36 jumpscared me lmao

The boon adds 15% crit damage on top of the default 300%, making it a 5% increase to you crit damage. Nearly all the effects in game are combined additively rather than multiplicatively

I always want to be spoiled. I do not tolerate uncertainty of any sort well. I am the kind of person who reads plot descriptions and libretti and TVTropes pages before dipping their feet into any new intellectual property.
I HATE SPOILER THUMB NAILS . Give me just the theme of the run because I watch to see if you are going to win. It's part of the fun.
