Now a day many foreigners are visiting Bangladesh slowly. You are different from others. You are digging Deep and real authentic side of our country. Thanks Dear from bottom of my heart. ♥
The Moroccan traveller Ibn Batutta visited this area in 1346 and in his journal he complains about the stench of dried fish. I must say Carrie, I am amazed by your energy, and at just how comfortable you are in such foreign surroundings. Thank you for such incredible videos.. I can’t imagine how much time and effort it takes to make each video.
Thank you for showing the beautiful side to Bangladesh 🇧🇩, not just the busy steers of Dhaka, that is only a tiny aspect of Bangladesh. Well done Carrie, much appreciated 🇬🇧💜🇧🇩
This unknown drying industry was very unique in your video. And I think the love of Bangladeshis for this incredible drying industry, important to the economy of Bangladesh, will gain global popularity.

I think you will be a big TH-camr. Your presentation and cinematography with just one equipment amaze me. I'm from Bangladesh, been to coxbazar many times but never even knew this dry fish place exist. loved it. It's great how easily you through some humor here and there.
You’re very kind! Part of the reason I get to go to places like this is the amazing Bangladeshi team supporting my travels.. Bengal Logistics ltd 😍they listen to every idea I have.. and add theirs.. and we arrive here 🥰
This is an amzing insight, I never thought about the industrial scale of this commodity. I have only ever witnessed Shutki being dried in rural settings. I love your videos! lol I also love how there are Argentinian and Brazilian flags everywhere.
I had the same feeling as you re the dried fish.. it blew my mind when I went! And yes I always had to remind myself I was in Bangladesh everytime I saw the flags (literally everywhere! 😆)
Sundarban's Dublar Chor (Duublaa Island) also has a huge dried fish production sector. That part has a different atmosphere as there are only the fishermen and some businessmen are living except any civilian. The fishes are also quite different than those of in Cox's Bazar.
Oh wow! I had no idea dried fish business is such a big industry in Bangladesh and it is one of the premiere supplier in the world. I love dried fish. And smoked fish. And fish in general. I wonder if dried fish from Bangladesh is available here in the USA, I have always seen them in Chinese stores in Chinatown but I'm not sure of the source country of their product. Yes, I wonder about the sustainability of the fish stock in the Bay of Bengal too. I hope Bangladesh government and all stakeholders in the industry will take care to maintain a healthy fish population and keep it sustainable. Cox's Bazaar indeed looks fun. It’s definitely worth a little trip to see.. ! I was literally thinking about whether a tsunami would impact this area a few days ago.. great to hear it wouldn’t!
You are a very different vlogger going deep into everything! How could you survive the stinky smell of drying fish for such a long time! Thanks for showing us the vast little known industry. Actually dried fish is an everyday essential item of the menu in Chittagong, Noakhali and Sylhet. And by the passage of time and local tourism dried fish curries have become popular with almost the whole of Bangladesh. In 60s and 70s people of Northern part would just ridicule the people of the districts eating shutki! Now they are also in love of dried fish. As well as being tasty ( but it has to be an acquired taste, first time someone may not like it at all), it is also very nutritious being rich in minerals and vitamins. The fishes you saw are all sea fish but sweet water fishes from river and ponds are also dried in Sylhet and Noakhali. They prefer those dry fishes more than the sea fishes. There is another form of dry fish which is fermented underground in a bamboo tube which is too smelly but a hit with those who like it( hidol or chapa shutki)!
Thank you so much! I had no idea about the river fish up in sylhet being dried.. that’s fascinating! I can see how it’s a healthy meal that’s easy to transport and keep so it makes alot of sense 😍
It was taken from my drone up in the sylhet division.. I think it was the Jamuna river if I am right.. I haven’t edited that river trip video yet but I will and will check with my guide.. very close to India..
