This is How Much SCHD You Need to Retire (And How Soon)
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 29 ก.ย. 2024
- In this video, I’m going to show you how much you need in order to retire off SCHD and also how soon you'll be able to retire. SCHD is currently one of the most popular dividend-growth ETFs among investors, for several really good reasons. It currently offers the highest dividend yield among many of the most popular dividend-growth ETFs that exist. And if you happen to be interested, I recently did a video where I compared the most popular dividend ETFs to each other, looking at a bunch of different metrics, including dividend growth, diversification, overall returns, and so on:
• Which Dividend Growth ...
But in this video, we’re going to see how quickly someone would be able to retire from their job and live solely off the dividend distributions of SCHD. For this video, we’re going to make a couple of assumptions. First, we’re going to assume that SCHD is the only investment you have in your portfolio. Now, because this is a diversified ETF, if someone wanted to only invest in SCHD, then I really wouldn’t see much of an issue with that. I always advocate for having multiple investments in your portfolio, but SCHD currently holds 104 different dividend-paying stocks. So if SCHD were the only thing someone wanted to hold, then that would be sufficient, in my opinion. Second, we’re going to assume that you’ll want to make $100,000 a year in dividends. I know that sounds like a lot of money, and if you want to aim to live off less, then that’s great. But as we’ll see, depending on the number of years in the future, a hundred grand might not be as well off as you’d likely be now.

I just switched up my Roth IRA to 50% SCHD, 25% SCHX, 25% SCHG, and my Roth 401k is 70% vanguard S&P 500 index, 20% vanguard growth index, and 10% vanguard international index. Seeking best possible ways to grow $350k into $1m+ before retirement in 3 years.
In this current unstable markets, It is advisable to diversify while retaining 70-80% in secure investments. looking at your budget, you should consider financial advisory.
It's true that many people underestimate the importance of advisers until their own feelings burn them out. A few summers ago, following an ongoing divorce, I needed a significant push to keep my company afloat. I looked for licensed advisors and found someone with outstanding qualifications. She has contributed to my reserve increasing from $275k to $850k regardless of inflation.
How can I participate in this? I sincerely aspire to establish a secure financlal future and am eager to participate. Who is the driving force behind your success?
"Rebecca Nassar Dunne" is the licensed fiduciary I use. Just research the name. You’d find necessary details to work with a correspondence to set up an appointment.
I looked up her name online and found her page. I emailed and made an appointment to talk with her. Thanks for the tip.
The S&P 500 moved 8.9% higher in November, achieving one of its best monthly performances in history.. which is an indicator for profits to continue to improve. I just want my money to keep outgrowing the inflation rate. I'm still looking for companies to make additions to my $500K portfolio, to boost performance. Here for ideas...
I think the safest strategy is to diversify investments. Like spreading investments across different asset classes, like bonds, real estate, and international stocks, they can reduce the impact of a market meltdown
Someone said the optimum time for a financial breakthrough is now, especially with inflation at a four-decade high. I have about $250k in my portfolio that is stagnating and needs to increase. What is the greatest strategy to capitalise on this downturn?
I am sincerely committed to securing a stable financial future and am excited to participate.
I just googled her and I'm really impressed with her credentials; I reached out to her since I need all the assistance I can get. I just scheduled a caII.
Entire market is rocking and the SPY continues to outperform SCHD. SPY all the way!
LOVE your video's!!! Do you have a video, or can you do one, when someone is in their 60's, never invested in market, but got a nested, and wants to invest in market and live off dividends. Keep up the great work!!
Imo investing the 50 grand in high growth tech stocks would be a much better move since you have 30 years. I actually sold all of my SCHD because the returns weren’t high enough for my high dividend portfolio.
Passive growth is good for people like myself who are retiring and want monthly and quarterly income for bills. Diversification is key….high interest money markets, crypto, high growth tech stocks and high interest passive equities is how I’ve been investing and have done very well with this strategy.
But it’s key to have a large nest egg. I can see how the wealthy keep growing their portfolio even in bad times. I do the opposite of what most financial advisers tell me to do, lol
A black swan event is coming.
The real value of those amounts 30 years later will be much much lower even with a 2,5% inflation
Yes 100k in 20 years will be a must I think. 🤔
In 30 years itll be enough? Dude it aint enough now.
You can make way more in dividends from some other etfs with 50k investment…you need to do more research…
I started my 250k portfolio last year with SCHD, VOO, and VUG after watching one of your videos. In terms of share price, VOO is way up (22.25%) and VUG is waaaaay up (39.62%). Thanks for the education! Will this provide solid cashflow?
keep acquiring! I'd suggest you consider financial advisory at this point in time, remember you are in for the long haul.
I agree, it's important to balance your portfolio allocations. I recommend a managed portfolio, though their performance can vary. It's best to consult a fiduciary for guidance. That's what my spouse and I did, and we've grown our portfolio to $1.7 million.
I'm intrigued by this. I've searched for financial advisors online but it's kind of hard to get in touch with one. Okay if I ask you for a recommendation?
I'm cautious about giving specific recommendations since everyone's situation varies, but I've worked with Monica Shawn Marti for years and highly recommend her. Look her up to see if she meets your criteria.
Thank you for the lead. I searched her site up and filled the form. I hope she gets back to me soon.
People who are able to retire early are lucky . I have 15 months till 65 and need to look at calling it quits, my only fear is running out of funds much later, thus keen on investing. What could be the safest possible ways to invest for cashflow, in order to afford lifestyle after retirement?
The strategies are tough for the everyday person. They are mainly executed successfully by professionals who have a considerable amount of skill and knowledge to execute such trades.
True. My portfolio was diversified across several markets with the help of a financial planner, and were able to achieve over a million in net profit among high dividend yield equities, ETFs, and bonds. It is vital that you have a variety of exposure, including in firms that are currently generating cash flows.
Could you possibly recommend a CFA you've consulted with?

Agreed, It's essential to diversify your portfolio. While quality stocks are a solid foundation, you should also consider other assets to spread risk. Thankfully, I can attest to the success of this approach aided by professional guidance seeing my portfolio of $330k grow by 29% this year alone... maybe you should do the same.
Due to my demanding job, I lack the time to thoroughly assess my investments and analyze individual stocks. Consequently, for the past seven years, I have enlisted the services of a fiduciary who actively manages my portfolio to adapt to the current market conditions. This strategy has allowed me to navigate the financial landscape successfully, making informed decisions on when to buy and sell. Perhaps you should consider a similar approach.

Bear in mind that 100K in todays money, is about 240K in 30 years time. So if you need to live off of 100K per year based on todays money, you would need about 240K income in 30 years time due to inflation.
100% agree with your mindset. Every 30 years avg inflation cuts the purchasing power of a dollar in half.
The theory is you shouldn’t have big expenses so you should be good. Obviously it depends
also why its good to still include some growth into your portfolio.
ya even 500k per year also not enough if you go spending spree
just get that 100k and reinvest it for one more year and you will beat the inflation
Protecting your capital is much more important than making money. Basically because if you lose your capital, making money is much harder. ''Missing the train'' vs. ''losing your money''. There are a lot of trains, but if your money is gone, it's over.
Wall Street pitched so-called quality stocks with high profitability and low debt, as a kind of insurance against whatever the economy might throw at you. I’m sitting at about 550 shares of SCHD right now.
Retirees who struggle to meet their basic needs are the ones who could not accumulate enough money during their active years to meet their needs. Retirement choices determine a lot of things so my question is do I still save in the United States dollar, or could this be a good time to buy stocks? So I’m left wondering what 2024 has in store for us investors, I’ve been sitting on over $745K equity from a home sale and I’m not sure where to go from here,
This is true. I'm in my mid 50's now. My wife and I were following this same trajectory. Last two years, I pulled out my money and invested with her wealth manager. Not catching up with her profits over the years, but at least I earn more. I'm making money even before retiring, and my retirement fund has grown way more than it would have with just the 401(k). Haha.
Choosing an invest-ment advisr is currently the best way to navigate the stock market, especially for individuals who are getting close to retirement. I've been seeing a coach for a while, and since Q2, my port-folio has increased by 45%.

I appreciate it. After searching her name online and reviewing her credentials, I'm quite impressed. I've contacted her as I could use all the help I can get. A call has been scheduled.
SCHD is my biggest position, making up around 34% of my total portfolio, I have some lower yield high dividend growers thrown in there, Mastercard being one of my main holdings. Always love hearing your thoughts on things, you're such a unique investor.
I'd really want to see scenarios with more conservative assumptions than 15% dividend growth on average. I don't expect that will last as we get more history in the market with SCHD.
I thought it was 15% per year at first, but if you look closely it says 15% over 5 yrs, which is 3% per year. I think that's pretty conservative.
The dividend growth rate is not right. If you google it it is 2.8% annual growth rate. Most of these videos dont have that right and it makes a huge difference in the long run.
I wish I had thirty years to wait.
Most Americans find it hard to retire comfortably amid economy downtrend. Some have close to nothing going into retirement, my question is, will you pay off mortgage as a near-retiree, or spread money for cashflow, to afford lifestyle after retirement?
as most investing-related questions, the answer is, it depends.. my best suggestion is to consider advisory management

Further, today you would need about 2.5 million to pull 100K annually from SCHD at 4.1%. i really think they are more like 3.7%. however you could skim from the capital growth and probably get the 4.1. I may have missed something. If so, please point it out.
I was thinking the same thing. You could have 100K in SCHD but not generating 100K of dividends per year
You're not missing anything. This video is stupid.
if you have money to start with life is so much easier , but when you start from 0 like me its hard ...
Great video! However it is a little misleading if you maintain a larger dividend growth than stock price appreciation. It’s fine in the short term but in the long term it is not possible to maintain this type of skewed growth rate. Something to keep in mind for long term investors.
Have a great weekend everyone!
I am sad that this ETF is not here in Europe (Italy)... :-(
A single income or relying on government support should not be every employee's dream or mindset, but having an investment plan by purchasing good stocks as income support and retirement is the best option one could take in life. economy of the country (America), which is unfortunately about to crash. According to the statistics of so many intermediaries and observations, the government does not pay attention to its economy and its citizens, but is investing in wars (Ukraine and Israel).

Anyone who thinks they can quit their job and retire to live off of a single etf don’t know about 2008 when stocks dropped 50%.
In 30 years $100000 will not be enough income to retire on due to inflation. If we assume 3% annual inflation you would need closer to $250,000 not $100k
Pass on SCHD. Don't know why you're pushing this over-priced low paying dividend stock. It costs too much just for a measly 3.62% dividend. Even AT&T and Verizon pay much more, and both stocks are far less expense. Then there's the YieldMax family of ETFs that put all these dividend stocks to shame.
Thanks for the video, I just have a small observation!, you never talk about inflation and taxation, I am assuming that if we consider those two factors que numbers may change a bit.
I personally use beat market for a Dividend calculator, no account needed
At what age do you recommend someone just sell off everything and just live off that? For example someone who is pretty old and doesn't want to leave behind a large some of money in stocks when they die? I mean if your pushing 70 or more do you really need a million dollars stashed away in the stock market just for the sake of the dividend or can you just live off the million bucks.

@@Jordy32Look closer. I thought it was 15% per year, but it's 15% over 5yrs, which is 3% per year.
@@RubyRhu we're talking about the dividend growth, not stock price growth
I will invest in Altria.
Its worse here, our economy is like a flailing fish, fighting for its life. The normal state of the U.S. economy is actually very bad. Because of this it goes into convulsive spasms fighting to grow any way it can out of desperation. Tricks, gimmicks, rule changes try to stimulate the economy and prevent it from falling but they only bring temporary relief to people since, when you factor in inflation we are declining.
People believe their currency has the worth it does because they have no other option. Even in a hyperinflationary environment, individuals must continue to use their hyperinflationary currency since they likely have minimal access to other currencies or gold/silver coins.
The price appreciation is at 3% on that website. I assume that means the average yearly price increase on the value of the ETF. On the previous 10 yrs, SCHD was about 11%/yr average. When I change the price appreciation to 11%, the annual dividend income drops significantly. This doesn't seem right, so I feel like I'm doing something wrong. Anyone able to help me out here?
You would need over a million dollars just to live off dividends. But if you live too long it won't be enough money.
can you do a video with 100k and different options never adding to it and $500 a month?
Well I'm out I guess since I'm 49 with only 450 shares so far
Vtsax for me in the Roth what’s your opinion on VIG from vanguard considering adding it to the portfolio
There is NO WAY you could expect a 15% CAGR on a dividend for 30 years, especially a ETF
yeah, i figure a 6 percent return on my div account including the ups and downs as the years go by. 15 ... thats risky.
I expect half of that. Going forward. 4% in bad years such as 2023, perhaps 10% in good years.
I'm not kidding when I say that the market crash and high inflation have me really stressed out and
worried about retirement. I've been in the red for a while now and although people say these crisis has it
perks, I'm losing my mind but I get it Investing is a long-term game, so focus on the long run.
I can’t focus on the long run when I should be retiring in 3years, you see I’ve got good companies in
my portfolio and a good amount invested, but my profit has been stalling, does it mean this recession/unstable market doesn’t provide any calculated risk opportunities to make profit?
There are a lot of strategies to make tongue wetting profit especially in a down market, but such
sophisticated trades can only be carried out by proper market experts
I’ve been down a ton, I’m only holding on so I can recoup, I really need help, who is this investment-adviser
that guides you?
Definitely! All of this happened in less than a year after *STEPHANIE KOPP MEEKS* told me what to do. I
started with less than $100,000, and now I'm about 18,000 short of having a quarter million dollars!
She appears to be well-educated and well-read. I just ran a Google search for her name and came across her website, thank you for sharing.
SCHD not available in EU. So..quite irrelevant video to me sry to say
You failed to account for inflation... In 30 years the 110k you're making will only be worth ~44k in today's $$$, at 3% avg yearly inflation
100 k in dividends a year in stocks is absolutely enough to live on if you have no mortgage payments.
Alternative for SCHD, UCITS compliant?
So that web site is cool but it’s not accurate at all on mutual funds. Claiming no dividends have been paid out when dividends were just paid 4 weeks ago and 6 months ago
Ending portfolio value of 1M would be ~40k of dividends per year not 110k.
How much schd would i need NOW to live off dividends?
Have you looked at wisdomtree's dividend ETF's?
FDVV is a good option. 1.76 shares equals one share of SCHD
Bruh, currently hold 5k shares of SCHD! Lump sum! I mixed vgt for growth 500 shares !
This is depressingly slow
Dividend Bull. Thank you for the video.
Can you please add a link to the website you used?
Thank you for having a brain in your head and proceeding to use it.
id add JEPI at 25 percent, great video it relly makes you think
I don't think the average viewer can save enough to make divys worth it. Very small ROI compared to captial gains
Compounding is really magical
I don't quite understand how to interpret the image on 3:54. There are two lines and column bars, the bar is the income (dividend per year?) and why are the green and grey lines show in that way? What happens when the bar grew higher than the green line?
Does track your dividend projected value portion working under the assumption that the investor re-invests dividends? Thanks
someone with retirement being far into the horizion still would be better suited to not worry about SCHD or other divided etfs. better to focus on high growth like voo, vgt, vug.
