      Iron Man is a widely known parody of Elon Musk, it's no secret at all.
      A real secret is this:
      The Star Wars family tree, (and to some degree the Superman family tree) and Musks own family tree is disturbingly similar.
      Musks mother Maye (Haldeman) have been a top level model in America for about 50 years.
      Her father (Elons grandpa) was an interesting character, and is the inspiration of the Skywalker family line.
      Elons own father Errol Musk is the inspiration for Palpatine and the sith emperors.
      The parallells:
      Haldeman is a somewhat prestigious family from Switzerland who moved to the southern deserts of africa (Skywalkers)
      Musk is a mining family from South Africa (Palpatine/ remnants of the british EMPIRE)
      XÆA-12 is Kyle/KAL-EL, basically Luke/Superman.
      The Skywalkers, Superman, Iron Man *AND* Elon Musk all have one thing in common;
      The curse/weakness of a mineral that separates them from their father.

      @@ZorbadTheGreat I'm talking about the parallells between modern Hollywood superheroes and Elon Musk.
      South Africa is part of BRICS, which is the closest you'll get to a Socialist version of Nato.
      Hollywood is widely known as the socialist center of USA.
      It doesn't take too wild of an assumption to guess that a top level model with ties to SA could inspire the family lore of modern popculture.
      Elon has cameo'ed in Iron Man for a reason.

      And here we are with ULA having missed a ton of mission windows already, they have had their own issues, and then their partners like Boeing are having even bigger issues. And so of course space X already has 2 successful manned missions that made Nasa look like geniuses for working with Elon, and that ULA guy, ask him now how many maned missions have they carried out? Oh yea none.
      I mean this should be pulled out every couple of years and shown again, just to rub it in the faces of the corrupt politicians who tried to sink Elon with them all ganging up against Elon.
      The end where Shelby makes that gross comment, 'the thing we should remember here is ULA's perfect straight 64 launches',

Also by the time of the next round of bids for the contract that starts after that one, Blue Origin could be a serious competitor to getting a piece of that pie as well so ULA needs to sort themselves out with costs

      Because despite the clear people in the room who are supposed to be 'objective' who clearly have their hand in the cookie jar of fat defense contracts, elon still wiped the floor with their slimy asses.
      i mean everyone can see who the winner is here, the guy whose rockets are just reliable, and now more so, come in at a fraction, not just lower, but a fraction of the cost. And now we are talking about the return on investment in Space X could mean we see a full colony on the Moon. Invest in Space X and he will build factors producing reusable rockets capable of building colonies on other planets in the solar system.
      Invest in ULA and you will end up making some fat politicians very rich, and a bunch of Russia used rockets, that can only be sent up once, and not a thing to show for 90 billion in 20 years after their contracts run out.
      Meanwhile, Musk only needs 5-7 Billion and will literally build a road into space.
      Anyone siding with ULA is clearly just another employee of ULA. Seriously, it is so obvious who in the room got together to plan to try to take Elon down.
      That is not how it is supposed to work in these hearings, they are supposed to be to find out how to save taxpayer money, and got more for less. Not politicians getting in a room to do the bidding of people sliding money under the table at them. We all see how well that went anyway... which is the only reason i am watching this video because their planned hitjob backfired in their faces...
      "According to ULA's definition of Success, that mission was 100% successful". Elon. Brilliant. they think they recovered with the 'well, technically we wouldn't call musk's failure a success, but we will call our failure a success". I mean do they honestly think people don't see through it...?

    Within 9 months, Michael Gass was out as CEO of ULA. Within 2 years SpaceX would overtake ULA's launch cadence by a wide margin(Falling barely short in 2014 and 2015). SpaceX is on target to lift 150tons to LEO with Starship, meanwhile SLS (and its program cost of 20BILLION since 2011) is only scheduled to make a first launch in November. LOL!

  • @carmp3fan
    @carmp3fan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +68

    Musk states that by ULA's definition, that mission was perfect. Gass says their definition of success is based off their customers declaration, so if the SpaceX customer says SpaceX successfully got the satellite into space then Musk isn't wrong. Later Gass says the failed launches fell within the margins, but he ignores the fact that the SpaceX satellite launch into the wrong orbit may have been within the margins, especially since it was an optional secondary payload.

    Senator: "So what are you doing about the fact that you depend on Russia for your rocket engines?"
    ULA CEO: "Well, you know we went to the Soviet Union back then, found how amazing the Russians are at building rocket engines and decided to buy some plus translate the blueprints so that we can demonstrate we can build one of those. I keep repeating how essential it is to improve our program on combusting engines. Also we have bought a lot and store them in a warehouse just in case things go south with the Russians."
    LOL I see why Elon Musk made a sarcastic joke about ULA's definition for success. Those guys have been holding a monopoly for way too long. Not saying that there is no innovation on their side but it's clear that they have fallen into the trap they have built themselves. Hold a monopoly for too long and watch how things stagnate and crumble until a complete downfall.
    What the CEO is basically saying is that they are unable to build anything new and are capable of reproducing foreign technology.

    This hearing showcases very well the problem with all government contracting worldwide, not just US.
    In an open market, the customer will always try to choose the most competitive supplier. There are rules in place to prevent anti-competitive practices, with the aim to ensure that suppliers do not try to circumvent the system and the competitive pressure is actually applied to the product.
    That is the basis of a fair, but competitive market. But it all depends on the customer themselves being interested in getting the best product. Which for a normal free-market customer is true out of self-interest.
    With the government being the customer and career officials or politicians doing the deals however, their interest is aligned in a different way. Its neither their money nor their liability in case of failure. In fact, the very central skill of a politician is to spin things in their favor, so usually they will get away with failures because they are used to CYA politics.
    Cost-wise also - they are almost never held responsible. So their incentive is to choose the contract that will benefit themselves personally the most. Be it political (factory in their state), be it monetary (campaign contributions) or with a future job on a lucrative board.
    The fact that there are close to no effective rules against lobbyism, rampant money in politics and just plain corruption going on, almost without accountability, will lead to the default outcome of choosing the worst-contract but with the most gravy for the politicians themselves.
    The only way to truly reform the system is to
    a) make all government spending (the TOTAL money trail) completely transparent, INCLUDING all military and national security spending. No excuses, no clearance required.
    b) establish a people's court that has the ability to investigate and freeze contracts, and hold politicians accountable
    c) this all needs to be established as an independed branch of government, a government watchdog

    • @EmberAsh
      @EmberAsh ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, with the exception of part a. There are subjects thye won't disclose or be transparent about and those tht CANNOT be ope ly discussed for security reasons. Mattrs which will not discussed openly undere pretense of security grounds has, does, and will make a convenient excuse until tht excuse is deemed inexcusable. Matters that are security breaches can't and won't be discussed and it would be good to get ahead of this issue because "on grounds of national security " has been "because we don't want to discuss what we spent your money on, peasants!'
      It's not an issue to discuss many expenditures because most aren't truly a national security anything. It's an insult to those thing which truly are and absolutely cannot be publicly disclosed.

      New phone, keypad issues. Security! Why this phone not letting me make good points that are lost by this weirdly willful keypad lol? Funny it's not just me or my keypad. That's a security issue...not letting some peoples point be made by burying the context and content when it's not flat out gj en no visibility. Yeah, I said it and it's very sad, scary, and true. Need a damn hearing on that garbage but maybe it's best we just collectively decide offline as that works quite well. 🤔
