I thought you said y'all were trying to move to Texas? Did I miss something? Great video. But, I hate to inform you that the Yellow Anaconda ain't going anywhere 😂
There's nothing wrong with regretting any animal purchase. I spent 2500 on a Belgian Malinois puppy because I've always been good with training dogs. That was a mistake. That breed needs to continue to be strictly used for police work or some type of herding of animals. That's not a regular dog breed at all & I thought I could handle it but I couldn't. We live & we learn
My Friend has one but it’s super people aggressive having bit all of us in the friend group already. He sent it to get trained at a dog boot camp paying a lot they were able to get it super well trained to commands but not to be social he still hates when people walk up to him and tries to bite. If on leash though he stays loyal and ignores people walking next to him pretty much acting like a police dog. He see it as part of the family though now so it’s too late to get rid of but dayum that dog scares me even when wearing a muzzle the power it has in its bark and body when pushing you trying to bite you through it is terrifying
I agree it's a very hard to own breed. But I highly disagree that they can't be good pets and should only be used for police work. They are one of my favorite breeds and with the right knowledge, time, patience and dedication they make wonderful dogs. And there's so many people who CAN handle them.
@PackAdventures One of the most rehomed dog breeds. I don't recommend them for anyone who isn't a professional. The average person does not have what it takes for a breed like that even if you've had success with multiple other breeds like myself...
I always appreciate honest feedback about pets people have chosen. Sometimes that insight can save others and animals from a lot of heartache or lack of care
I’ve kept and bred fire skinks for years. I disagree completely on them not being suitable for most keepers. They are an amazing animal. They may not tolerate handling as well as some of the other skinks, being flighty and sometimes a bit nippy if you grab them, but they are one of the most personal and bold small lizards species I’ve ever worked with. They will climb out of their enclosures and gladly accept food from your hands. And you would be hard pressed to find any species that looks as beautiful as them and that displays as nice. WC animals are remarkably hardy. Not sure I’ve seen any real outstanding issues with them in over 28 years of working with them. Truly a species where they will make you rethink that handling reptiles is the only way to interact with them.
Same. I had both of the skink species Adam mentioned and confused why fire skink is #1. You don't see them in petstores very often nor in classifieds or rehoming ads
This is good to hear! Fire skinks are my dream reptile to own. I really would love to add one to my collection someday. They are just so beautiful and I do hear good things about captive bred ones.
@@avafigueroa6447 You really can’t go wrong. Like I said even WC rarely have problems. Sometimes they can missing a tip of their tail but when it comes to health they are sturdy animals. Proper protocol should be followed with all new animals. Quarantine and fecals but other than that I’ve never had a WC die on me. A lot of them will tolerate gentle handling, but they have a tendency to bite if you grab them. And they can pinch you pretty good.
I approve of recommending a Boa Imperator. My 9mo old is just chill and relaxed, loves his frozen-thawed mice but is very careful and doesn't want to bite anything else, and the 5-7 ft long he'll get when he's older is plenty big without getting unhandleable or seriously dangerous.
Don't get a brown anole. They're insanely fragile, skittish and fast. Mine hates me, as a bonus (because I had to syringe feed him for a while and he hated that). They're cheap but they need uvb, a fairly big terrarium for their size because they move a LOT (don't use the 10 gal recommended, I can't understand why people say it's ok, mine is in a 30, fully bioactive with a whole hibiscus tree in there and he does use ALL the space). They're basically a fish in an aquarium. And I have to put a blanket on his terrarium because he's scared when he sees my cats and won't eat
I know a lot of people are getting them as pets, but in Florida they are literally everywhere and I mean everywhere outside in your backyard and everywhere on the streets 😅
@@Roxx_Boxx Yeah, this is why they're sold as starter pets, they're so abundant that they're not a problem if they die. But I hate this way of thinking. It's an animal, no matter the cost, it's sad if it dies. Mine was not a pet, my colleague found him in her plants and I adopted it.
Butttttt I love anolessssss 😂😂😂They're absolutely hilarious to watch. I eventually wanna get a huge enclosure for anoles. Yeah they're more of a look dont touch pet, but I have other look don't touch reptiles and I actually enjoy them. I keep mourning geckos. They're way too tiny to hold and are about as skittish as anoles 💀. I still enjoy watching them scurry around their tank. When I get an anole it probably won't be a brown one though because I want something more colorful but who knows 😂 I said I'd never own a ball python and here I am with one and he's my favorite reptile that I currently own.
I love my KSB. He is very low maitenence and cute. He may spend most of his time hiding, but I have a nice bioactive for him so his cage still looks pretty. Also, he's very active late at night. i often see him poking his head out of the soil and sometimes he gets a drink of water lol.
Absolutely love your video styles! You give out such great advice that’s also enjoyable across so many species of reptiles! Absolutely my favorite reptile channel out there!
I will say Adam, I have a BCI, a hognose, a rat snake and a KSB and the sand boa is my favorite. Sure, he can go underground for 2 wks at a clip sometimes but many nights he climbs up the hammock I put in his tank and pokes at the lid until I open it so he can crawl out onto my hand. He is the closest to acting like a dog out of all of my pets excluding (maybe) my actual dog! Haha I know he's the exception but my KSB is a climber and a cuddler for sure.
I love my hoggie-boy and I wouldn't trade him for anything, but I will admit I've advised a few people that maybe a cornsnake would be a better choice for them. Weedle not eating for 3 months was stressful enough for me, knowing it was a possibility and aware of how to track and make sure he was still healthy despite it, but an 8 year old? eeeehn, maybe not.
I only have a cornsnake right now, 11 month old little noodle, and your videos have shown me so many reptiles and so many tips! :)) So thank you, Diamond, for letting your Co-Host speak on your behalf 😂💕
My fire skink was my 2nd reptile, and she's possibly my favorite! I did get her as a 2 month old baby from a very good breeder who handled her daily. I dug her up everyday to handfeed her until she was 1 year old. Now she is 5 and I see her almost every day. But I know this is not the case for many fire skink owners.
Have you ever heard of a travelers palm? The remind me of a bird of paradise and look so cool. My plant place in Massachusetts some times carries them. Thanks, love your videos. 🎉🎉
Make a video on beauty rat snakes please. Especially Vietnamese blue beauty rat snake and Ridley's rat snake. I always loved them and recently got a Vietnamese blue one. I would definitely love that!
I'm confused you shouldn't get Fire Skinks because they are generally wild caught, but how often are Schneiders Skinks captive bred? At least here in Europe they aren't. It has been done but not with any regularity. Most of them are wild caught.
Especially since a growing number are being bred in captivity and I even know at least two people working with morphs (patternless and anerythristic fire skinks 🤔)
Always enjoy these mini classes, this is where you stand out. Totally get not recommending Anacondas, I think about Brian's Ivy and how Mike has to clean her water a minimum of 3 times a day. I was thinking they need some kind of flushing system that senses when she has a movement and automatically removes it,lol, probably would freak her out though. All the others make sense and it was great that you made other recommendations. Thanks Adam, always learning new things on your channel.🐍🦎❤️👍
The funny thing about this video is that I had a Hognose snake, and due to my work schedule I never saw him. Now I have a Kenyan Sand Boa, and see her more than I did my Hognose. I’ve only had her for almost 2 weeks but I’m loving my sand boa.
Western Hognose was my first snake, got him from Snakeful Grace. He's a toffee glow, super pretty... not the brightest though lol I named him Chester Cheeto
Maybe do a best native species to keep list? Would be interesting to know in different parts of USA/canada/Australia what native species can be kept if any. Love the videos Adam as always!
Definitely agree with green anacondas and chameleons, I’ve never owned a fire skink and have no intention of doing so. I know you were only talking about 5 animals but was kind of surprised when retics and crocodilians weren’t mentioned
Over 20ft green anaconda? I've never seen one in real life or on youtube. The biggest I've seen was 18ft and it was youtube and the girth on that thing was ridiculous. Google may say they get that long but even the pros like Jay, Kevin and Brian (May he rest in peace) never saw a 20ft Anaconda. They all have videos talking about it.
I have a ksb among other reptiles but id agree hes not super active but i will see him chillin inside one of his hides from time to time and hes extremely handleable and chill
I regret not doing enough research on the breeder when I got my first snake ... I was young and I thought the pet store I was going to was good. They were not. Every snake in the 4 clutches they had all died within a month or two of hatching, and they were being sold VERY small.... my snake lasted a little longer, but it did pass.... 😢 I was so heart broken... I spoiled that snake, it was really hard to deal with ... then I looked into them a bit more, which was not easy back almost 20 years ago, and yeah learned that almost all their babies were not surviving and they knew and just kept doing it... Maybe one day I'll start working on a setup and look for a rescue in my area.. ♡
I don't regret getting my Hognose but I would not get another. I legit never see him out I have to dig him up for wellness checks. I knew they burrowed but I did not think I would never see him out lmao.
we had schneider skinks we call em berberskinks tho you wouldnt expect it but those things can bite my god i lost chunks of skin never pick em up when shedding especially not from behind they were fun tho my dad used to catch spiders to feed em and it was hilarieus
I've wanted a fire skink for years actually.. 😂 The Schneider's is fine and all, but not as pretty. Not that they are all that expensive, but its costly to keep up with pets in general. Of course, the more exotic you are looking for reptiles, the higher the cost. Its a long-term commitment as most of them stick around for a while. While I dont have the greatest track record with snakes, I've had my leopard gecko about 18 years now. She's pretty much as hardy as they come and still thriving! Not the best shedder, but I step when I have to. 😅😄 Although lately I've strongly been considering a colorful hognose morph. That or a true red-tail Bcc. I love the Suriname, Peruvian and Guyana boas most. Just if it requires more than 2 bulbs daily.. (1 if I'm being super* honest) or like 119% humidity at all times, I'm so GOOD. 😂🤣
You have sold me on Schneider's skinks. They are on my list of future pets. 👍🏼 Side note; I appreciate how you say burr-ied instead of bear-ied. It's rare but as an English grammar "snob" it's a little thing that means a lot. 😉🤣🤣
My yellow anaconda was definitely very aggressive when in the enclosure. She'd strike at anything moving past it. Getting her out was a pain in the butt, but for some reason, once she was out, she was pretty handleable. Maybe she saw the reticulated python and african rock python once she was out and didn't feel so big and bad, lol
I honestly thought carpet snakes would make the list for this one, maybe snake that think too much for their own good. Well, I now have an entire list of crazy stuff carpets do, everything from death wrapping my fingers with his tail and pulling them into the box while the head comes around because he thinks he's a cobra or something too defending his box like he's a teenager who doesn't want you tidying his room, teenaged carpet snake problems. I have been told they do grow out of this however.
Rever rejected a purchase i madebut got some things like brown skink, brown basilisk that i had with a curly tail, spiny tail iguana and a green iguaba. They were all out doing well but the brown skink just hid and bit and basilisk was bite prown.the the turtles were easybut shakes,i would trade bach the smaler ones garters, red bellies rinhneck. I would buy more cycloras, and monitors, tortise or 2 and few turtles, bolens, green tree boas, green anaconda and gator small caimens.and red phase eastern indio. Start there and work up to rare things.i have the property just needs the rest on 40 acres
Kenyan sand boas look cool but I’m not down to being striked on the side lol I’m only used to forward attacks side attacks freak me out and that you’ll never see them. It’s not really my thing. I don’t like surprises lol
And if you're specifically dead set on a small, gentle, "beginner" level BOA, consider a Rosy boa. You'll see em more often than a KSB, and vs. a hoggie, well... they're boas. Really there's not a whole hell of a lot of difference between a hognose and a rosy boa, except the hog has keeled scales and an upturned nose, while the rosie has stripes. One is a boa and the other's a colubrid lol 😂
I had a veiled chameleon and he was a prick and yes it is very advanced pet as far as care so I rehome him to someone is more experienced then I was so he could have a better life
Anacondas/big snaks , iguanas, monitor lizards , alligators, any small lizards with no values are my 5, my panther chameleon always wants attention lol which is weird
Good evening Adam and diamond sorry I'm late, if only I had the room for a massive enclosure for anaconda I would get one because they are so amazing. Great vlog today also I would love to get alot of things really. I hope you and Trish have a fantastic day
😳 Where the heck are you finding captive bred Schneider's? Seriously! I've given up on my dream of having a Schneider's because the ones I see for sell are almost always wild caught! But I've seen plenty of captive bred fire skinks, though.
I have a ball python and i really want to get into hognose. I kind of have to keep things small scale because of the size of my house. I would love a BCI some day but if i had one now, it would have to be the only reptile I have. I really want to get a bigger home so I can expand a bit more. Maybe have my own reptile room.
kenyan sand boa THE BEST pet if you are captain jack sparrow. just imagine how happy he was with a jar of dirt now make it a tank of dirt and he probably is the happiest man on earth then
What would be better as a first snake western Hognose or sand boa or ball python or corn snake or rosy boa trying to stay cheap and want a docile snake what should I get
Adam, have you done any hognose care videos. Daughter got one several months ago and the bugger will no eat consistently. In8 months it has only taken 3 pinkies. It ate fresh fish. But tuatbis difficult to keep. Any thoughts
Yo I just got my baby pet iguana what light should I use at night or no light at all? And what should I feed him ik lettuce and stuff but do I sprinkle it with calcium?
I agree heavily . Chameleons do require special care. I was fortunate enough to have a veiled chameleon when my friend needed a new home for hers. I thought it was going to be way harder than it actually turned out to be. After months of working with handling him at short intervals he eventually got used to the idea of being handled. I would only take him out 2-3 times a week for 20 mins or less. I plan to get a panther cham one day because theyre so beautiful
Big thanks to Ridge for sponsoring the channel! Here’s the site if you want to check them out! ridge.com/WWR

Rhino rat snakes look goofy with that little horn
I knew KSBs were going to be on this list!
More surprised there weren't any amphibians on the list!
I’ve got a lil Hognose male (he’s a Snow btw) and he is constantly burrowing, I almost never see him 😂
How do you feel about rubber boas ? They seem like a viable beginner option.
YOU should get a indigo snake are the best TH-cam ever have a awesome day have a cool day have a wonderful day great work Wicked wickens reptile
I like these videos Adam I enjoy them
The rino rats are super pretty and unique
Where do you buy schinder skinks? All the ones I can find are wild caught.
Kenyan sand boas look cool but I’m not down to being striked on the side lol I’m only used to forward attacks side attacks freak me out and that you’ll never see them. It’s not really my thing. I don’t like surprises lol
WOAH, I DO LIKE THURSDAYS!
How do you do intros like that!?
sometimes I like editing fun style intros
I'm going to a reptile expo on the 8th. (Aka) this weekend
A rubber boa would be cool too
In switzerland you'll need a license to keep a chameleon, which is good imo
I had a veiled chameleon and he was a prick and yes it is very advanced pet as far as care so I rehome him to someone is more experienced then I was so he could have a better life
Chameleons are definitely specialty and delicate
Out of two of the reptiles i own I.E Eastern Blue tongue skink and central bearded dragon id %100 would get an bluey of any specie
I really regretted buying a trio of Kenyan Sand Boas. Just really didn't enjoy keeping them. I rehomed them with a family who was really into them.
sounds about right
I think sand boas and a hognose both end up as a box of dirt at least with my hognoses who just love to tunnel all day every day
You’ve got some sick intros
Anacondas/big snaks , iguanas, monitor lizards , alligators, any small lizards with no values are my 5, my panther chameleon always wants attention lol which is weird
Good evening Adam and diamond sorry I'm late, if only I had the room for a massive enclosure for anaconda I would get one because they are so amazing. Great vlog today also I would love to get alot of things really. I hope you and Trish have a fantastic day
A green iguana for my son back in the 90'S. NOPE, never again. He's into snakes now.
I had a fire skink once and it bit the crap out of me every time I got it out. Do Schneider stinks bite like that?
oh wow!
Anols are pretty cool honestly
kenyan sand boa THE BEST pet if you are captain jack sparrow.
just imagine how happy he was with a jar of dirt now make it a tank of dirt and he probably is the happiest man on earth then
beauty snakes are super cool, I like them. mine used to be very fistey as younglings but now they just run away from me.
did they grow up to be personable?
Love my fire skinks
Maybe rosy boas? As opposed to hognoses?
that fits too, or Rubber Boas
What would be better as a first snake western Hognose or sand boa or ball python or corn snake or rosy boa trying to stay cheap and want a docile snake what should I get
Are the snakes used for slithering?
Adam, have you done any hognose care videos. Daughter got one several months ago and the bugger will no eat consistently. In8 months it has only taken 3 pinkies. It ate fresh fish. But tuatbis difficult to keep. Any thoughts
I would love to have a eastern hog but I hear they're hard to find and not easy to keep in captivity.
I disagree with KSBs being a beginner boa, they can be really finicky with feeding.
Hey Adam, I am a teen. What reptile would you recommend for me? I am more into lizards than snakes. Thank you!
Yo I just got my baby pet iguana what light should I use at night or no light at all? And what should I feed him ik lettuce and stuff but do I sprinkle it with calcium?
A snake being feisty doesn't turn me off in getting one
I agree heavily . Chameleons do require special care. I was fortunate enough to have a veiled chameleon when my friend needed a new home for hers. I thought it was going to be way harder than it actually turned out to be. After months of working with handling him at short intervals he eventually got used to the idea of being handled. I would only take him out 2-3 times a week for 20 mins or less. I plan to get a panther cham one day because theyre so beautiful
