"Where do trucks come from?" Well, when two cars love each other very much... Diggin" Truck Week! Hope you"re feeling better. Looking forwrd to more crawls!
It's great to get to hit the like button again. Keep healing and we'll keep pulling and praying. On the subjects of the week - fascinating to see the engineering that went into these for durability and serviceability. Thanks as always ~ Chuck
Hello Steve, Call me a nerd but great to have u back, love your daily dose of facts. I’m in Ireland and have an unnecessary knowledge of European cars and trucks and although I lived in the states for a while in the ‘90’s have learned so much from your daily videos in recent times. Godspeed getting back to health🤘🏼
Hey Steve I just wanted to say how good it is to see you getting back on your feet. I'm praying for you every day. I know you will be back at the junkyard soon enough. So you concentrate on your health and we will keep watching you videos Edward.
Let me clarify the vaugueness in this video. That cab is the EXACT same cab as a 1/2 ton pick-up truck. The modifications would include the lack of an emergency brake pedal at the left kick panel and a different gauge cluster, but as far as the sheet metal is concerned, EXACT same cab.
Once again, every day we see you getting better is a day closer to seeing you back at the yard. We're all rooting for you. As stated last time: The code that you stumbled a bit on might mean "Shaft Intermediate Axle and Yoke" and might denote specific parts for a given application or rear axle option. No, SPID stands for "Service Parts Identification". Its' primary use is for obtaining correct service parts after the vehicle is built as there are many options and combinations that were available. Looks like you have a visit from the (friendly?) "Junkyard Dog" there. LOL. Ah yes, when you get the SPID, we're glad that you did, because it has the VIN and with that we win: 1GD for US made GMC truck, incomplete, G for 19,500 to 23,000 # Gross Vehicle Weight Rating with hydraulic brakes, 6 for 6000 Series Medium Duty, D for 97.5" BBC Conventional Cab, 1 for 4x2, A for 5.7L (350 CID) GM produced V8 gasoline engine with two barrel, 2 is a check digit, E for the 1984 model year, V for Pontiac Truck and Bus Assembly, Pontiac, MI and the rest is the production sequence. Pontiac Truck and Bus was located at 2100 South Opdyke Road in Pontiac MI. It opened around 1972 and closed in 2009. Exterior paint is code 46 Dark Green. The model code is of significance on the SPID too: T for GMC (C is Chevrolet) C for 2WD, 6 for 6000 Series Medium Duty and the rest are for the type of cab (two door, crew, etc) and bed/frame style. That truck has Retrac mirrors, which is a brand that still exists today in the heavy truck parts world. No, that's "Battery Delco, Group 71/390 CCA", not delete. The "Engine Update After" might refer to updated engine settings as a result of the specific vocation that the truck is being used for (dump body in this case). This chassis could also have been a fire/rescue body, a stake body, a crane, wrecker, etc. as that chassis was used for a lot of vocations. It might have to do with PTO settings, RPM settings or throttle settings. No, that's "EZ Spec Process" which allowed the salesperson or the municipal rep (in the case of a governmental sale) to easily spec the truck with the required equipment. For example, today when you construct an Ambulance, Ford requires that it has the Ambulance Prep. Package. When you order that, you get the proper equipment, settings and setup to make that truck into an Ambulance. That code is probably for something similar. A dump truck needs a PTO, so for instance, that has to be part of the spec package. Some of the codes are not for field use, they are more for internal plant use. No, GM does not own Allison any longer. They sold it in 2007 to Carlyle Group and Onex Corporation. Correct, the certification is a two-step process, and this occurs even today. The OEM (in this case GM) ships a cab and chassis to the body builder/upfitter/final assembler (M&M in this case) who then puts a secondary sticker with their data and also asserting that they have not violated any standards/laws/etc. by their upfit. Also, if the GVWR has been changed or modified in some fashion, that is noted on the secondary sticker. M&M Equipment appears to be gone. Even 4x4 conversions on heavy trucks are done at "upfitters" such as Fontaine, Manning, Fabco or others like it. They are often located adjacent to the OEM assembly plants and do upfits (4WD, seating modifications, etc.) that are OEM approved. Kenworth for example uses Fontaine and Manning for various upfits and factory options that they do not do on the main assembly line. Ford and others do the same for their options. Yup, that's right, M&M is probably one of hundreds of upfitters of dump bodies: Bristol-Donald, Galion, Crysteel, among others do dump body upfits on cabs and chassis supplied by others.
This GMC was my school bus in 2005. It felt ancient and it was only 20 years old or so. Looking back from now it's the equivalent of a school bus built in 2005, and it blows my mind. Time does fly.
praying for you steve, my absolute favorite person in the automotive industry I can't believe the knowledge you possess. hoping for a fast recovery for you
I am really enjoying the truck stuff! Im not a truck guy but i am starting to appreciate them due mainly to your filling in the blanks for me. Thanks! 👍👍
I have never seen an 80's GMC dump truck with an Automatic. Growing up, the ones I knew all had manual transmissions and 350 CI engines. Great video. ❤😮😊
Glad to see you doing better. Looking forward to some new content. As someone who suffers with depression. I use your videos as part of my daily therapy. Because I love cars and trucks.
Glad to hear and see up and around and you’re getting better. Thanks for the guys who filled in while you were out. Take it easy and get better my friend.
no rush bud, were just glad your feeling better & on the mend.we'll still be here when you feel your ready to resume filming.you had ALOT of people concerned about you.& were extremely happy you feel better.
So glad to see you back on, it’s always great to see one your videos. I’ve watched many since Aug. but I still haven’t seen them all. I can’t live with out watching your great videos. We love you here in Oklahoma!
We don't know 1 another but urr good ppl. I hope u get back on urr feet soon. I really dig urr channel and watched u in the past with my Dad on motor trend, that was on wknds and wed watch this old house, motortrend, etc. Just eat right and move often. Wish u the best Steve.
How'd I miss this yesterday? Probably because I was packing for my florida trip tomorrow. Lol I remember when I worked for heavy construction company down in southwest florida in the 70's they had a chevy C60. 454, 2 speed rear axle. It did a fine job hauling all the heavy stuff I needed on job sites! I had to haul a load of sidewalk forms, while towing a large compressor for a jackhammer. With all the weight it struggled unless I put the rear in low. In low, it spun the rear dualies a bit every time I took off in 1st gear, I used 2nd to start off when one of the guys told me I was spinning the rears. Lol
Great to see you Steve! My dad had a Chevy C65 dump truck in the late 70’s. That one had a truck 366ci engine. I’d suspect the GMC you profiled was the same. Cheers, Paul
Steve buddy, I am new here on your lovely channel. Rest assured I am going to watch ALL of your history lessons, ups, videos I mean.😊 Keep well and safe! God bless you and yous!🙏🏻
I bet up hills with a load 25 mph with hazards on freeway. The big Dodge D300 came with a slant six. So I guess it’s all in the transmission gearing ratio. 🤷♂️
Those trucks were very popular with the govt entities such as towns, counties, and states. I remember seeing them all the time plowing during the winters in NJ.
Let's go Steve!!! Watched most of your videos!! Keep it going and we'll see you soon! Would love to see some type of revival of your Super Model series again!! Those were excellent!!
I ran an old twin stick mack years ago hauling silage. Couldn't find a data plate on the truck, but the box was built in 72. Having 5 gears on one, and hi/lo/reverse on the other when the field was too wet for me to go clear around it, sure was handy.
I worked for a company in NJ that built various trucks one was a dump. We would receive the cab & chassis from the truck manufacturer and install the body and all the related hydraulics( if required) and finish the customized truck as per customer requirements. The cab & chassis truck could be outfitted as dump, stake body, truck crane , snow plows etc.
Worked for a local asphalt driveway contractor. Always bought those dump trucks used . Couldn't kill the engine or drive train . Ran them til the body fell apart then bought another . Work horses . Ours were same green color ! Ha !!!!!
You said that the doors aren't same as a pickup aka (c/k10) but then you said they'll fit a c10 truck? Im confused about what you're saying. Since i thought theses cabs were the same as a c10 anyway back then except the front end Since they're different heavy-duty use.
Great to see you back your feet, Steve. Can't wait to see you back in the junkyard looking for gold.
We're all pulling for you Steve. Hope to see you back in the Junkyard soon
Amen 🙏 yes we are!
eh, steve aint coming back anytime soon. we will probably never see him in a junkyard again. my bet is he'll retire his utube channel.
"Where do trucks come from?"

God Bless You My Fine Sir!!! Please get better!!! 🫶
Praying for a speedy recovery, Steve! Keep on Truckin'!!
My dad owned a GMC 6000 dump truck from 1989 and used it all the way until 2022!
❤ glad you're back
Great to see you Steve. Glad you are getting better. 👍👍🇨🇦
Hello Steve,

Godspeed getting back to health🤘🏼
I didn't think that anyone could make a dump truck interesting! Great work, Steve. 😎
had me a 1967 GMC PU back in the day and it had the 305 V-6 and I have to say that truck ran like a champ
Those 305 V6's were beasts!
Hey Steve I just wanted to say how good it is to see you getting back on your feet.
I'm praying for you every day.
I know you will be back at the junkyard soon enough.
So you concentrate on your health and we will keep watching you videos
Edward.
A lot of Hot Rodders used the 2 quart spin on oil filter from the 366 engine on there 350 small block motor.
Top kick was one of my favorite Chevrolets big truck learned to drive one was a wrecker! Get well soon Steve-o keep up the pt👍
Cool, man. I like trucks. They get me where I need to go and I can use them to make a living. Win, win.

My brother had a farmer drop off a load of top soil in a truck like that. Such an awesome sight.
Nice to see you in recovery Steve professor I'll wait for you I'll check out 360 videos you already have again thank you get well soon

Very cool, I drove a 1971 Chevy C50 with a Holmes 600 Wrecker body when I worked at my auto shop in the early 1970s thanks for the video Steve!
366 cubic inches engine I've seen a lot of those in my Days at Napa 1985 thru 2019 .
GMC Trucks are Great Mountain Climbers.
It’s so great to see how much progress you’ve made Steve. This has been, as with everything you bring us, a great truck series.

Saw this one before and gladly reviewed it again. Good to see this channel and Steve back on my feed.
Some of those Chevy trucks came with GM I don’t remember if it was a straight 10 or v10 Chevy engine
It was a v12, used 4 heads from a v6.
Oh yeah. There was a v12. I came across it on Craigslist about 10 years ago. The guy wanted $3500 for the engine running but leaking. ❤
Hey Steve! Glad you're on the upswing.
Keep on keeping on Steve!
Awesome, Steve! Thanks brother! Still praying for you!

I had one with a grain bed dump i used for my roofing business. The 366 in it was a beast.
The 366 is ok, as long as you remember it's not a 427.
I have never seen an 80's GMC dump truck with an Automatic. Growing up, the ones I knew all had manual transmissions and 350 CI engines. Great video. ❤😮😊
